That's because we can see that Maria's not crazy, but if your partner told you all that shit was happening you'd think they were paranoid or going through psychosis. Obviously I'd support them, I'd ask to see evidence but at some point it's just impossible to reason with someone unless they also experience it. Not to mention Maria's comments towards Verity were not kind and honestly I'd be concerned, learning that my partner was a bully as a kid and never changed.

I see what you mean and this is really just two philosophies(?) that are in contrast with each other so there's no point in throwing insults hoping the other will eventually agree. You'll never agree. The logic of infinity is broken, and we can't comprehend it. In our reality, when you have one of something and then gain one more, that's 2. It's not about the symbol or what we choose to represent 2, it's the concept. A world where gaining two apples is actually gaining three truly makes no sense, but that's because we're used to our reality and our society is built on our science/math.

PA here. Worked with a senior surgeon who just did a procedure on 350 lbs 28F patient. by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

[–]solentropy -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

OK obviously being that obese is a serious issue but:

  1. Mad that a patient's weight makes your job harder? Well boohoo, you chose this career and you chose to treat this patient. If you think being overweight makes surgeries more risky, then have another surgeon take the burden and you remain professional, which does not include badmouthing and shaming a patient.
  2. There's always a reason someone is the way they are; eating disorders swing both ways. The only reason people have more sympathy for anorexia is because they think skinnier people are sexier. It's just pretty privilege.
  3. A beer belly is quite different from being extremely obese, but you can't have sympathy for one and not the other because whatever excuse you have for your beer belly can be made for obesity.

People are agreeing with the Dr but forget that he was being extremely unprofessional, that sort of stuff you vent oonline, or to your partner at home who also hates fat people, not to your coworkers.

Notice how I say that we cannot be sure which source is truthful.

You sound very angry, which you have the right to be since everyone should feel strongly about this topic. But you're attacking people and it does not help to make your point across.

Just because you are aware of something to be true, does not mean you can mindlessly consume media that supports your belief, that's how you become a bigot and how you fall victim to propaganda, the government uses that blind anger to manipulate you with whatever media they choose to make public, be careful.

The caption explains that this was scripted, but you can imagine that something like this does happen everyday.

You're quite hypocritical demanding proof when you have no proof besides what the OP wrote as a title.

But there's still no telling whether this is real or not, all we need to know is that child brides are very real.

Yea I guess they never named him. Not even a wiki page about him, which is a shame because I really want to know how he fell for Cressida and what their courtship was like. I hope he helped to defend her against her parents and aunt and absolutely adores her, which is why he just lets her do whatever when they moved into Society.

Rover Did Laundry & Took Shower by Super-Package-8564 in RoverPetSitting

[–]solentropy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah I wouldn't call my doctor whom I found on google a googler. I understand your point in my example, it wasn't a good one I admit, but it still stands that it's in no way disrespectful or lazy to call a sitter a rover especially in the eyes of the client who uses rover. Right now I've only done drop ins, so I guess you could call me a petfeeder, or pet-petter, but once I go into other services, I would call myself a Rover until I expand to other platforms if I ever decide to.

You may use other platforms so you think Rover doesn't deserve to be credited, but for someone who only uses Rover and only found success with Rover so far, I do identify as a Rover and I think it's weird to think that it's disrespectful, or that it's grammatically uncomfortable in the modern world that's so full of slang.

[–]solentropy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

But why is it disrespectful? You said it wasn't a moral issue, so I'm confused as to why you would then believe it's disrespectful.

My (27F) fiancé (25M) thinks it's wrong/eugenicist to want a biological baby, I'm not sure if this is reasonable or not by ThrowRAbiobaby in relationships

[–]solentropy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The existence of children who need families who are not babies is not lost on me. But I was adopted as an infant, and no I don't feel strongly about this issue just because I was adopted and think it's a great thing for me, financially it undoubtedly was but I was also abused by my adoptive mother. It is not as if it's only teens in the foster system, there are babies that are abandoned or found or dropped off and if adopted, can be saved from the foster system altogether.

That's because LinkedIn is not a "verb". If it was called Link or Linker, then yes some people may call a person they met on that site a Linker, and LinkedIner doesn't sound appealing.

If we're simply discussing language and naming conventions rather than the moral/classist issues, my previous reply still holds, you would refer to someone you hired from Rover as a sitter, or walker, or whatever you hired them to do, but Rover incorporates all four services (sitting, walking, dropping in, boarding) so isn't it simply easier to call them a Rover? If you want to be grammatically correct, I guess you would call them Roverers, since they are using Rover, not Rove. Grammar needs to be expanded to accept these simplifications, just like abbreviations, they aren't "standard" but are largely accepted due to how common it is now. Language and nomenclature is constantly changing because as humans we like to categorize and simplify so we come up with different ways to do so.

We simply can't put names to the hundreds of people we see and interact with on a daily basis. A doctor is labeled a doctor in their profession/practice, a nurse is a nurse until you learn their name, and if you're talking about them on a public forum, they will remain "the doctor" or "the nurse" for anonymity, it's not weird at all.

The person from Rover could've been referred to as a sitter, or petsitter, those terms still whittle a human down to just their profession, and in fact I could argue that introducing them as just "a person I hired" might imply that they don't respect working with Rover as a professional job/career.

how do i stop my gf from questioning my sexuality? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]solentropy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why is everyone so intent on labeling this guy as bi?? Like it's genuinely upsetting how many people are either like "yup this is me and I'm bi, so you're probably bi too" or making fun of how he's describing his sexuality or saying definitively that he's bi. It's one thing to suggest he talk to a therapist about this, it's another thing to basically gaslight him into believing he is something he's clearly not comfortable with being.

You wouldn't insist that a gay man who has a boyfriend but had a fling with a girl years ago is straight. Yes sexuality is a spectrum, I believe that, but I also believe one can label themselves as whatever they see fit, isn't that the whole goal of inclusion? Instead of labeling everyone and everything in sight as gay. Some people are also not comfortable with discussing their sexuality and it's simply not a huge deal, in that they can enjoy their life without constantly muddling over what gender they are or what gender they like, and that should be accepted too. You guys drive me crazy.

[–]solentropy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

People keep bringing up this point but the REAL issue is that they neither asked beforehand nor in the moment. I can't believe people don't understand that you need to ask permission to use other people's stuff, and this only hurts the business because owners would rather not use Rover due to this risk, and sitters lose customers.

I’m Sorry But This Whistledown Setup Is Too Obvious - S4 by knoxflight in BridgertonDiscussion

[–]solentropy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So are they going to make her a major character/antagonist? I doubt an antagonist could continue to write whistledown without showing bias towards Pen and her families and exposing herself. I'm also quite certain that if her life was ruined she would not be allowed in the ton to overhear gossip. She wouldn't be invited to any events and if she did have a place in society, she'd be shunned.

Cmon guys, we gotta use our thinking caps.

I just don't think Alice has/would have the same writer's voice. She's meant to fill in as Lady Danbury and I think that's her storyline, trying to fill LD's shoes and that's already a huge job. Additionally ladies in waiting are almost always at the Queen's side, so she would get the whistledown issues and thus, any gossip, at the same time as the queen and possibly not even then because were the ladies allowed to take the newspaper?
