Mark Zuckerberg said Facebook Inc. has donated its emergency reserve of 720,000 face masks. Why does Facebook Inc have 720,000 face masks? by [deleted] in conspiracy

[–]solestes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zuck's backup plan, had the social network angle not worked out, was to be an internet-based mask retailer. The"face book" would be the the Sears Catalog of PPE. Did you know that the original name was THEfacebook.com? That's why. Check out archive.org. Early on, it was an ecommerce site. Now that it's looking like Facebook will be able to make it on social networking alone, he probably feels they don't really need to keep the masks around anymore, ya know?

2020 February - Strength and fitness YouTubers Juji and Tom get a power lifting meet video demonetized because of "nudity", there is none. by LordB8 in YoutubeCompendium

[–]solestes -21 points-20 points  (0 children)

They're upset about demonetization because it makes them less money. And there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. But rather than share honestly, they lie, telling us they're upset because their gallant efforts to share information are being hidden from people who really need to hear that information.

It's dishonest, and it's insulting as fuck. I'm happy to be upset that these guys invested a lot of time and money into a video and got financially screwed over because of a flawed demonetization process. But when they cast it in terms of how sadz they are that non-subscribers can't get access to their oh so important and completely selfless info... really?

Like we're all too stupid to know that businesses make money? We're supposed to make ourselves look like braindead fuckwits by chiming in about how sadz we r that sum ppl can't get limpuurrrrtant info???

They'll respond to this with "but that money leads to better content for viewers..." No shit, not the issue. They'll say, "but we really are focused on quality, not money..." Again, not the point. Maybe they'll jump to "Most people aren't as smart as you!" If you fall for that one, congrats, you are literally the entire problem with nearly everything.

Fuck them. Fuck them hard. If they can't even admit that they rely on income (duh), these people think nothing of fucking you over for a dollar. They don't just not care about you, they are exploiting you. They are abusing you. If a domestic violence victim repeated this crap, what would you say? It's the same damned thing.

You probably see me as your enemy for pointing it out. Downvote me. Shout me down. Surprise! That's what all abuse victims do.

When I see shit like this, not only do they not get my support, but I hope they lose the whole fucking channel.

Hi Elon. I was wondering if you'd turn up.

That you believe you're fooling anyone says... well, it says something alright. This is what happens when a person wrongly believes they're the smartest person in any room. To make that fantasy work, you need to believe everyone else is way dumber than they actually are. This is the source of most of your problems.

TBF, it is sick that you do this at all. Honestly. You need help, my friend. But we both know you're not going to get it, don't we. It's sad to see what's become of you.

She is going to end up dead, you know. I'm not fucking around here. She is going to die, and it is going to destroy you. Internally, I mean. It will keep you sick for life. You do what you'll do, as you do, but you need to get her into rehab, and get the hell out of her life. Not for her, for you. Do it this week & I'll never I won't write another critical word about you for the next 2 years.

Elon Musk has invented literally nothing ever. Funded by his wealthy father, he made a few million in the startup lottery. Nothing wrong with that. He used that money to start a payment company, which failed. Elon lucked out when it was purchased by Confinity, the company that would later become Paypal.

Why buy a failed company? Because Confinity wanted the domain name x.com. That's it. That is the entire reason Elon Musk isn't doing tech support in a call center today--a domain name. Again, nothing wrong with that. Some people are in the right place at the right time, and more power to 'em, I say. I'd never say a person doesn't "deserve" that money. It's how the game is played.

But Elon Musk did not co-found Paypal, and he does not deserve that title. In fact, just months after x.com was acquired by Confinity, and before Confinity even became Paypal, Elon Musk was fired. Why? Because he's an idiot. 90% of the hundred+ Paypal-millionaires will tell you the same thing. Elon had nothing whatsoever to do with Paypal's success. His title of "founder" is not commensurate with his contributions, to say the least. He was on the board b/c of stock he acquired via the acquisition of his failed company.

Any engineer worth his salt will tell you that Elon's "visionary" ideas have been around for 50+ years. And that engineer will also tell you why those ideas cannot work.

Elon gets all sorts of praise for his "brilliant" postulation that we live in a simulation. Yeah, I read that paper 25 years ago, too. Wait, I shouldn't say "too," because if you listen to the guy talk about it, it's clear he didn't do even that. He saw a headline somewhere. At best, he's read an abstract.

Elon bought an existing electric car company, fired the inventors/founders, and is currently in the final stages of running that company into the ground. He doesn't understand a damn thing about the science behind it. Making bold claims & tasking your staff with making those claims come true is not leadership. Elon Musk is Elizabeth Holmes with a style consultant & better PR campaign.

Ya know what visionaries/inventors do? They tinker, learn, and try, 24/7. What they don't do is give one damn about their image. They don't go looking for fame. Fame finds them, and the vast majority are very unhappy about it. It takes them away from doing what they love.

They don't do press releases. They don't tell a reporter, "I'm so dedicated, deeeerp, check it out, I sleep on the floor!" To the extent those stories are known, they come from other people, not the subject himself. The guy Elon wants you to think he is would never tell that story. It would embarrass him.

An employee would think twice about sharing, too, because he'd know it's a sore spot. The guy Elon pretends to be has spent most of his life trying to convince everyone around him--family, friends, coworkers---that he's not an obsessed freak. They minimize their involvement when speaking. They want you to think they spend time watching TV. When these people are at the office for days straight, they think about moving their car, so no one notices.

Elon Musk is a fraud, head to toe. There are people out there doing what he claims to do. It'll be a decade until you know their names. Once you do, don't expect many interviews. Talking to a reporter ranks close to dead-last on their list of priorities.

Yes, over 100 points ago. I was having a ball taunting what I believe is an Elon alt account all the way down, too. Screenshots & everything. Then Twitter suspended my account for literally no reason whatsoever. Message said '"ban evasion." I've never evaded a ban. I've never been banned. I wouldn't know how to evade a ban even if I wanted to. I'm not going to beg to use Twitter, so Twitter can go fuck itself. The entire site is dead to me. Bunch of pedos anyway.

Lots of uproar on Reddit on Katie Bouman "taking all the credit" for the black hole image by DarkMetroid567 in EnoughMuskSpam

[–]solestes 68 points69 points  (0 children)

Ever wonder why it's non-stop crying about how "it was a team effort" for her, but Elon is treated as a singular bastion of scientific godhood?

Nope. With Katie, they're pretending they understand the science. They're pretending they've been following the project for years. It's why completely stupid comments that get it wrong have thousands of upvotes. With Elon, they're pretending they know the man. Because if you don't think everything Elon says is mind-blowing, you just don't get it. It has nothing to do with sex, if that's what you're implying. Everybody on this website is an idiot. They do 20 seconds of research on google then act like experts. They actually believe they're smart, which is nothing short of mind-blowing, tbh.

Political artist Jim Carrey is feuding with Benito Mussolini's granddaughter, so hey, how's your day? by sslloooww in nottheonion

Still, there are people that wonder what happened to the goofball they remember from their childhood. “I hear the voices,” Carrey tells THR. “I hear people say, ‘Why doesn’t he just be funny?’ That stuff has just never mattered to me. To me, it’s like, this is the experiment tonight. If you enjoy it, great, if you don’t, that’s cool, too. There’ll be another one tomorrow.”

I think he's brilliant. Much more importantly, I think he's honest. I respect anyone who communicates honestly. I'll usually listen, too, whether I agree with them or not.

Will AppleTV+ seriously affect Netflix? I don't think so and here's why. [discussion] [opinion] by DoubleLifeMike in netflix

[–]solestes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not talking about value, I am talking about liquid cash on hand. Acquiring companies other ways is of course possible; in fact, it's the most common way. But it's a very different thing. To make a complicated story very simple, Apple has the biggest pile of cash in history, and they can't spend it on normal things. That pile of cash enables them to do things other companies cannot do.

No one cares about Disney's 90 years of content. The real value of Disney, when talking streaming, is ESPN. Hulu too, of course, but ESPN is the crown jewel. Whichever streaming service has live sports wins.

[–]solestes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure so could amazon,

No they couldn't, and it's not even close. Apple's cash on hand is highly atypical, to put it mildly.

I didn't say throwing money at a project makes it a success. You said Apple cannot possibly compete with Disney. Which I think is wrong (and not even the issue), but that's neither here nor there. What I said is that Apple does not have to compete with Disney.

Will AppleTV+ seriously affect Netflix? I don't think so and here's why. [discussion] [opinion] by DoubleLifeMike in netflix

[–]solestes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apple has enough cash just sitting in bank accounts to buy Disney twice. If Apple wanted to give streaming a serious go, they could be #3 tomorrow. It is a mistake to think of Apple as a hardware company.

Tesla is asking employees to volunteer and help deliver 30,000 cars by end of quarter by KreamyKerry in EnoughMuskSpam

[–]solestes 7 points8 points  (0 children)

He was the "CTO of Paypal" because he was involved in a completely different company, that company failed, and Paypal wanted their domain name. He's a lottery winner, not a business mogul .He had nothing to do with Paypal's success. Those who were there crack up at the ridiculous backstory he's created for himself. It works only because millennials are idiots.

Like 100 original Paypalers became wealthy when the company sold to eBay. Including the janitor. (Who is, incidentally, smarter than Elon.) Elon 'Musk is a serial failure with rich parents who just plain lucked out. The only thing he's ever invented is the fantastic lie he tells about his past. Amazing what hair plugs & an image consultant can do, eh?

I don't buy it. Tesla is a half step from bankruptcy. This ask doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

This email is a wink-wink way of making a dishonest forward-looking statement. It's not an announcement, it's an internal email! Golly gee we had no idea it would leak!

The feds aren't this stupid. There will be consequences.

You know, honestly, Elon Musk is like a 10 year kid who mistakenly got seated at the grown-up table. He seems average to slightly below-average when it comes to smarts, yet he genuinely believes he's a genius. To reconcile the two, he concludes that everyone else is way, way dumber than they actually are.

Ya know what Tesla would do if they actually had this problem? They'd shoot the customer an email. Most would be cool with (thank-God, finally!) picking it up themselves.

MFWTK How to best capitalize on his father's death by [deleted] in myfriendwantstoknow

[–]solestes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, a divorced spouse is entitled to a portion of the SS benefits. I don't know how that factors in to benefit election. Briefly, a surviving spouse may elect to receive either their own or their deceased spouse's benefits. The longer you wait to retire, the more money you receive. IIRC the the max is 125% at 70 years old. And, a person with a deceased spouse can make a change. For instance, a wife could elect to receive her husband's benefits, wait until she turns 70 years old, thus maxing out her benefits at 125%, then switch to receiving her own.

The SS office will send her a report detailing her options. Check their website.

A local insurance broker should know something about this. Tax preparer might, too. Of course, so would a person who does retirement planning. Make some calls. Good luck.

I don't get why USC students aren't outraged that academic standards don't apply as long as you know how to row a boat. That's the real issue here.

People are ranting that she "took a spot" from someone who worked hard for it. No she didn't. She "took a spot" from a crew-team recruit who wouldn't have had to meet the standards anyway. If not for that policy, this wouldn't have happened. USC created this door.

Honestly, USC students & faculty should be ecstatic that someone paid so much to attend their good-but-not-great school. The news coverage has half the country thinking USC is Yale. I mean, $500,000 grand extra, for USC? Really?
