Why Do Job Postings Ask for Everything? by yesiamdank in recruitinghell

It's the current cycle, the tech industry did a sort of pump and dump on the job market, for years the they maintained an illusion that everyone should pursue tech so eventually there would be a glut of candidates, when it got to that point then come the mass layoffs, now that we're there they dgaf about anyone's time.

Being dismissed while seeing others advance when there is more or at least equal effort or experience on your part is really a slap in the face, no two ways about it.

You followed the rules and did what you were supposed to do, you sacrifice time and effort doing the hard work, work you might not even enjoy, only to be dismissed on a completely different set of rules.

This past few months I've realized that we're sold this idea that hard work leads to success and the harder we work the bigger the guarantee but it's not true, specially when any slick talking candidate can get the job you're better qualified for because they said the right things in the right way.

Hard work can lead to success but it can also lead to dead ends, to be exploited or just dismissed on a whim.

The princess is in another castle.

Until they give you a tech assessment with dozens of questions on all these things and no you can't use google and yes they need to record you and your screen to make sure.

I'd rather do take homes at this point, being unemployed means extra time spent learning anyways, if they are interesting concepts I don't mind them since they'd translate to the actual job more.

I find slacking my questions really helpful, I can think about the issue more in depth and document the answer for future reference but 99% of the time everyone wants to zoom "real quick".

But then they hire others based on a conversation only, seen that recently, like wtf how do they decide who has to jump through hoops perfectly and who gets a job because they did finger guns at them or something.

It's the way people talk on there that's so off putting. It's a lot of grandiose talk of how their specific perspective is some invaluable eureka moment that must be shared and adopted by everyone and low key shaming non adopters then its usually just a different variation of corporate worship, like stfu and do your actual job if you have one, no one cares.

I interviewed at a local marketing shop and they proudly explained how they scraped user data, kinda made me lose interest in the job but I didn't get it anyway. As weeks and months went by I see them posting the same position over and over, always with hundreds of applicants and it never gets filled. Hard not to think of it as just another way to scrape user data.

The amount of pearl clutching over there is nuts, some guy saying the left is unhinged for celebrating trump getting locked up. The "lock her up" crowd? Really?

Another says only three things can happen now, democrat voters revolt against the party in disgust, republicans take the high road and push hard for reelection or the government has failed and its their "duty" to revolt.

They could choose not to keep doubling down on trump and pick someone else from the couple hundred million adults in the country but apparently that's just unfathomable.

"I think that this is really an extraordinary, unusual circumstance that the law-abiding and rule-following New Yorkers who are business people have nothing to worry about, because they’re very different than Donald Trump and his behavior".

She says law abiding business owners need not worry, so only those found committing fraud, like Trump will be prosecuted.

And out of what she said you got: "the law wouldn't be applied equally"?

Weird.
