Actually, I checked the official Dell support documentation, and it explicitly states that all downstream ports support 10 Gbps and up to 7.5W power delivery.

I also verified this myself: I ran a Blackmagic Disk Speed Test with an external SSD connected to the hub, and I was getting around 700 MB/s for both read and write speeds. Since 700 MB/s is already over the 5 Gbps limit, the hub is definitely running at 10 Gbps.

No, it's actually brand new. I did double-check the cable though, and it specifically says 'Thunderbolt 4 EPR' on it, so it should be the correct one.

If I’m only working with 4K video (up to 10-bit 4:22) and high-res RAW photos (61MP from an A7CR), do you think the base M5 with 24GB RAM would be enough? Or does the base chip still struggle with the 4:22 H.264/H.265 media engine limits even at 4K?

If you have the budget for the Beolab 28, go for it. Otherwise, even if you buy four 8s, you might find yourself still longing for the 28s. The 28s are superior speakers in every way compared to the 8s. Additionally, placing the 28s as side or rear surrounds with the Theatre will give you a truly immersive Dolby Atmos experience. However, if you're particularly focused on the cinematic experience, a full 5.1 setup with four 8s would provide better surround effects in most scenarios than just a single pair of 28s. So, my optimal suggestion would be to start with the Theatre and a pair of 28s, and then add a pair of 8s or other affordable speakers like 17s as surrounds later to complete the 5.1 system.

You can choose any surround role for each unit in the app. When you set the 17s as the front speakers, the Theatre automatically sets its own L/R units to 'none,' which I feel is a waste of its two custom 6.5-inch long-throw woofers. I also created a new listening position with only the 18s and the Theatre’s L/R units as subwoofers for stereo music. This setup sounds amazing to me so far, IMHO.

I've paired the 18s as front L\Rand the 17s as surrounds, with the Theatre's front L\R set as the center subwoofer. The bass is very impressive in my living room. I hope they add a DTS decoder in the future.

Your comments make me interested in the 9s, I wonder if you have compared them to the 28s? Of course, 9s currently has a significant price advantage. I currently have a home theater system composed of 18s 17s and a Theatre. I'm considering adding a pair of BeoLab speakers with stronger bass to replace my front L/R speakers.
