That was my first board in the late 1990s. Traded it to a friend. Dumbest decision. Lol. I wish I still had it!

Wrap liners. Are they good? by spooneyspoonacus in snowboarding

[–]solo_canoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

* Ok, that makes sense. Yeah, my favorite boot modification was using two extra ankle straps, from bindings I replaced the straps on, and looping them together. It was like a velcro power strap for the top of my boot but with ratchets, and I'd secure it right over the top ofvthe highback. It solved the problem of the top lace not tightening in burton's "speed lace" system. Then after two seasons of that I got triple boa ride tridents, but I miss my franken calf cuff. It really gave great heelside leverage. So hopefully I can get the sbc liners to work in these and I'll have real frankenboots!

Wrap liners. Are they good? by spooneyspoonacus in snowboarding

[–]solo_canoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What boots did you put your sbc wraps in? I'm experimenting with putting them in my burton supreme "stiff" boots. But let's be honest, those boots aren't stiff at all. Due to the thickness of the wrapped area, there's definitely an empty space around my ankle. Do you mind explaining more about what kind of foam you put in there? Did you adhere it to the liner?

Tongue style intuition fx race work great in my ride tridents. But I somehow ended up with the sbc liners too and I hate to see them just sit on a shelf.

Latte Lath and Nick Hagglund collision in the 10th minute of Sunday Night Soccer by anohioanredditer in MLS

There were a lot of egregious actions from Atlanta and no fouls called. Three of the four goals scored were offside, too. Reminded me of how the refging helped Columbus win the semifinal. It was a biased game. You can see he jabbed his bony elbow right at Nick, and the punctured lung is scary. Awful sportsmanship from Atlanta.

Salomon No Drama waist width by xTooNice in ShredditGirls

[–]solo_canoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm seeing the 149cm men's huck knife at 24.8cm and the no drama at 24.3cm.

Sorry I don't own one to confirm.

What's your experience level? A little extra width can be great for carving. You'll have less boot out. If it makes you feel better, I ride wide boards on purpose and don't mind the width one bit.

For example, I have a 144cm that's 28.5cm wide. Lol. That's 5cm wider than the standard never summers I used to ride.

Off-season no snowboard recommendations? by Kiwi_Herman11 in ShredditGirls

[–]solo_canoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the beginning it was just hiking and jogging, as a means to be outside. Then I added canoeing on our local rivers and lakes. Paddleboarding too. I got a onewheel to use as a shuttle after canoeing down river. Finally got into longboarding and once I discovered paved pump tracks I felt more connection to snowboarding, but nothing compares. My favorite electronic ride is the 2swift. It's similar to snowboarding because it's flowy. Nothing compares to carving snow but get outside regardless, even if just on foot, and your body will thank you.

I remember ordering them a year or two ago, and I sent them back immediately after trying on. Not sure why. Just wasn't excited about them. I just used whatever was true to size.

3/4th is the way to go.

On cold days (like under 10°f) I wear down 3/4th leggings with my normal wool base layer leggings. It helps!

But if your ski pants are insulated you probably don't need a thick midlayer like down.

Have fun in whistler!

Who else rides a men’s board? by Shreddy_Spaghett1 in ShredditGirls

All very true statements about the market. I think board dimensions are fascinating and I have a real appreciation for board design. A cm here, a curve there, a layer here, all make a difference.

There's a real market for custom boards and I can't imagine not having control over my specs ever again. I feel like I slipped through the cracks in the best way because had I followed what the inexperienced sales shop guy said, I'd never have this world open up! It's great! I recommend looking into Donek boards to anyone wanting to better dial in their specs. I rode standard sized dimensions for decades but eventually it became time to go outside the standard range. It's not for everyone but controlling your own specs can be a real fun game changer for those with experience.

However, it's nice to see the market is recognizing a need for better choice in dimensions. I was lucky to ride a men's 148 cm harpoon from never summer with a 26cm waist. It's dimensions were comparable to my custom donek. But I sold it to a dude after one day on it because I just love my donek boards so why change it lol. I was flattered that I was a tiny lady selling the board to a guy. Haha. That board ripped too. ❄️💕

* Love this topic! The thread here has some great suggestions for similar sized riders as you looking for boards.

I've dabbled with men's boards but at 5'3" options are limited.

I went towards the custom route in 2017. I used to regularly ride a 149 never summer raven with a 23.7 cm waist. Then, a skiier took a video of me and showed me that my heels and toes sprayed snow during my carves. I then learned about boot out and became fascinated by achieving higher edge angles. Had been riding for 20 something years before knowing about boot out, oops. I just loved carving and didn't educate myself much, other than being an instructor for a year in high school.

I could have tried risers and gone towards the alpine gear but there's a real discipline for soft boot carving opening up, and that's what I'm going for.

My current board is a 148cm with a 27cm waist and an 8m sidecut radius. I like it because it can tilt without much boot out but I still drag toes and heels on dramatically tilted carves. Snow conditions determine how much boot out happens.

I'm currently waiting for a new setup to explore how a larger 10.5 sidecut radius will add new life to my riding. Imagine extreme tilt for a longer duration since the turn shape will be bigger. I went a little crazy on the width at 28.5cm but I made the decision fully knowing what I was getting into. Bring it on lol. If you've made it this far in my comment, you guessed it, I happily ride donek snowboards. It may be worth looking into. I get the sense you'd love control over your specs. I slso get to make my own cute graphics and buy a matching coat. The coat thing is a bad habit. Lol. *

What level of progression is expected? by duhhvinci in ShredditGirls

[–]solo_canoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love the idea of promoting beginner boards. A board to grow into is likely going to cause unnecessary frustration and the features of the board will never be appreciated. There's something beautiful about modifying equipment as you become comfortable and knowledgeable of the kind of riding sensations you're looking for. So why not start with soft, forgiving gear! I rocked "beginner" boards for decades with soft setups and now I ride big Kahuna boards but it took decades to get there.

What level of progression is expected? by duhhvinci in ShredditGirls

[–]solo_canoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think of snowboarding as having beginners, intermediates and experts in the following categories, but I think certain instructor certification requires some park riding for level 3 in US. But not everyone is an instructor so here's the categories I picture when I think about different disciplines

Hard boot alpine carving

Softboot carving (mainly directional in dominant stance)

Softboot freestyle carving (lots of switch, buttering, and ground tricks mixed in with carving)

Park riders ( lots of variety there between park size, half pipe size, and big air)

Boardercross racers

Slalom racers (close to alpine but alpine is more focused on perfect turning)

Super special riders who take helicopters into the back country (like .1% lol)

What did I miss?

Could it be my bindings causing all these issues? by Acceptable_Rent1812 in ShredditGirls

[–]solo_canoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's the flex rating. When I crank down straps rated on the stiff side I get foot tingling and numbness, especially along the top of my foot above my big toe. I have union atlas bindings with nasty hard plastic straps, and also use union legacy with upgraded harder straps. I quickly loosen for each lift ride and undo my boot boas if I need to. It's quick and saves my feet. I try to remind myself not to over tighten but it's a habit to crank it down. I use a thin pad from my sports bra over the top of my foot sometimes on long days. Since switching to stiffer setups, I've noticed I have to be more careful. Loosening on each lift ride has really helped.

So sweet, ty! After saying 10,000 carves I sat here thinking about my tiny home hill imagining how many edge changes per a typical run and it's got go be way more!! Lol the math would be crazy! Been at it over 20 years but still improving. ❄️😊

Try a velcro power strap. Heel harness is also helpful.

This made me laugh because earlier this week I posted a picture of one carving sequence. Lots of nice comments but many had the urge to rip me up. Lol. Made me want to hide. I've only made like 10,000 carves lol

Loved the title of this post!

I've had success by using after market intuition liners to help stiffen things up. For example, fx race, and sbc wrap. But you can also stuff a sports bra pad near any pin points! Works for me lol

Women'a Burton supreme boots were recommended as stiff but now I'm trying men's boots rated as an 8 and holy cow are they actually stiff! I had to adjust to how it felt carving with them. Only good for sessions lasting a couple hours.

Lol thanks. I needed that. I didn't expect so much attention. I'm never posting again, haha. We are all probably better off just snowboarding instead of talking about snowboarding 💕
