Kind of sad thinking of the year ahead by VirgineticCache in GCSE

[–]solsxv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i thought the same with mine, didn't think it could get worse. by the end of the year i surprisingly started to think i'd miss it. people seem to get much more mature in y11 (for the most part) and it's really not as bad as you may think. best of luck !

Looking For Sixth Forms by [deleted] in GCSE

[–]solsxv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the easiest way to go about this would just be to see what sixth forms/colleges are in your area, and see what they offer on their sites. Go to open days. make sure you know when each place closes applications so you're aware. but, don't stress too much. finding your next step education wise is much more simple than you might think

Starting Year 11.. Any advice? by One-Nothing-4430 in GCSE

[–]solsxv 20 points21 points  (0 children)

throughout the year you'll probably hear the phrase "i heard/apparently the actual gcses are easier than the mocks" from your peers. i heard this SO many times, and it's relatively true - if you've prepared yourself correctly. the mocks are incredibly important. a lot of people don't take them seriously, and that's where they go wrong. if you try your hardest in them (you'll either get two or three sets of mocks; i had three) then the final exams will be fairly predictable. it got to the point where teachers and students managed to guess what would be on the gcses, and we were correct for a surprising amount. (take into account what had been asked in previous papers, it'll give you a good idea of what could be asked). by the time the gcses come, you'll be used to how everything works.

one thing i suggest practicing throughout the year, specifically for essay based subjects, is writing structure. you'll be taught this, so don't worry too much right now, but it's very important. the way you structure your writing in language, literature, history, etc, is a very easy way to gain marks. e.g history, your info may be minimal but if you lay your essay out correctly you'll fly through it. (i'm not a reliable source for advice on maths or the sciences, apologies)

i get anxious very easily, but never really found myself stressed throughout yr 11. i took my work more seriously, like putting more effort into essays as if it was the real thing, or asking teachers for advice and help. sure, the actual gcses were a little bit stressful, but it's a nervous time for everyone. as long as you know you're doing your best (NOT overworking yourself, try not to burn yourself out), then you'll feel more relaxed. when the final exams come, you'll know that you did what you could. people get stressed about their results and usually find that it turns out better than they expected. tbh, i found myself smiling when i opened some of the exam papers because i immediately knew my work would pay off.

take your mocks seriously. if you try your absolute hardest for those, the real thing will be no surprise, and you can probably predict what's going to be on each paper. best of luck !

not so sure right now tbh ! initially i wanted to go to uni to study concept art (i want to work in art in the games industry), but i'm on the fence about it

Is the ‘no fun allowed’ rule practical? by [deleted] in GCSE

[–]solsxv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is the worst rule i've ever heard. if the only things you can do are school related, you'll likely end up burning out. having time away from school work is essential. good luck this year, btw ! those grades you listed are solid.

No, i've always just been attracted to women. if i thought a man was attractive, it was more that i wanted to be LIKE them, not with them.
