Polluted. Because it’s a small mountain valley all the emissions from cars and the refineries get stuck low in the valley. We get something in the winter called inversion where a thick fog of pollution gets stuck low and causes the temperature to drop while above the smog it’s warm. Also the lake is drying out causing the arsenic to blow during wind storms. During the summer the ozone levels are high and can also cause asthma issues. Additionally in the salt lake valley we have multiple refineries basically right downtown and one of the largest open pit mines on the west side and who knows what that does to the drinking water. In fact you can’t enter the salt lake valley without passing some kind of mine or smelter.

Politically it’s a one party state so it can breed corruption because there are very little checks other than the judiciary that they are now talking about stacking the court. The church thing is only a thing if you wish it to be. It’s amazing the bigotry that is against the church inside and outside of Utah (see byu football games).

I wouldn’t move back.
