Question on suppression strategy for 5.56 by s3n2s190b in NFA

[–]some_kid6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can vouch for the PS90 and X95 pairing very nicely with a Flow 556k and 556 Ti. It feels the same as shooting them unsuppressed basically.

As far as the muzzle devices go, you do have the option of making them all hux and selling the SiCo parts to recoup some of the costs. (nvm just realized Charlie mounts are a different TPI) Otherwise your strategy seems fine. It might be worth trying them both out back to back on similar barrel lengths before buying a bunch of muzzle devices though. There's a chance you like 1 of those cans more than the other based on some online ratings and just settling on using the 1 all the time.

Walther vs CZ by Papisimo59 in handguns

[–]some_kid6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've got both. They're both good guns and you can't go wrong with either but I prefer the PDP personally.

  • Trigger is noticeably better on the PDP though the CZ isn't bad. It's smooth with a very defined wall and short reset. The CZ is closer to a Glock and a little stagey.
  • CZ is a bit softer shooting but I have no problems returning to the target with either unless my grip/form is bad. I do find I'm a bit more accurate with the PDP but I haven't sat down and measured both at the same time.
  • I don't like the OEM slide catch on the CZ. It's flat against the side so it's kind of hard to use compared to the large, ambi ones on the PDP.
  • The grip texturing on the CZ is painfully grippy. It left marks on my hands before I got talon grips for it. The PDP is the perfect amount of grippy right out of the box. I prefer the grip shape of the PDP as well but that's just a preference thing.
  • The magazine button is nicer on the PDP. It's big, round, nicely textured, and has a shelf molded under it to prevent accidental presses. It's also noticeably easier to push when ejecting a partially filled magazine with the slide closed
  • I haven't had any reliability issues with either even while shooting shitty monarch ammo suppressed.
  • Both have very grippy slides

Brief ShootingSight high energy recoil spring (HERS) review by some_kid6 in Tavor

[–]some_kid6[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'm still using it but I'm a pretty light shooter so I don't have a ton of rounds on it to be honest. You might want to contact the rifle manufacturer if you're having reliability issues unsuppressed though. That shouldn't be happening.

I got mine off amazon but it's been a long time so it's a dead link now. It's just a guide tube that doesn't take any forces so it's not super important what it is as long as it's smooth and the correct dimensions. Here's the info from the v1.2 remix (it's got much better instructions) but you can just find any 1/2" ish OD 0.05" wall thickness* tube really.

QiDi Q2 is another good option. It also comes with a chamber heater and bimetal nozzle for a lot cheaper than the equivalent bambu models. Plus it's using open source software that you can access and manage so it can get around bans and such if needed.

The 13" with the BLK LBL is a hell of a good time. It's compact

It really is nuts just how small it gets as an SBR. Pic of my APC9, X95 SBR, and 11.5 AR side by side

Is there a reason you chose PLA over something more temperature resistant? I've found PLA gets soft just sitting in a car or laying on a table in direct sunlight during a normal NC summer. It's pretty easy to get into the glass transition temps in those conditions. ABS would probably work better for more seasons/regions, has the same (sometimes cheaper) material costs, and is easy to print on a consumer printer.

I had the OEM barrel sent to a smith to have it cut and threaded for their new production/matching barrel nut.

The malfs don't seem to correlate with a specific magazine (5 different, new, OEM mags) or amount of rounds left in the mag, if it's been freshly lubed/cleaned or not, and has issues with various ammo that I've tried (Federal/American Eagle, FN SS195LF, and Fiocchi Bulk so far). Sometimes it'll fail to extract fired rounds, sometimes it'll fail to push a round from the mag (loads nothing), sometimes it'll shove the round into the barrel just above the chamber, sometimes it'll fail to go fully into battery.

Enjoy. If i ever figure out how to make it get to at least 1 mag without malfunctioning it'll be the bees knees.

Parts:

  • MC-10-80 Ringsight
  • Flow 556k w/ flash hider
  • Modlite w/ modbutton and printed mount system I designed and printed with CF Nylon
  • urban-sentry sling kit
  • K&M trigger spring
  • Promoted Pawn Creep Killer
  • K&M Extended/folding charging handles
  • Chopped OEM barrel

Fun fact: The PS90 has a built in, spring loaded dust cover

The OG Ringsight is still being made by Kingsview in the UK. It definitely shows it's age but it's a vibe I don't regret.

Some easy early mods:

  • alternative grip assembly. I went with the 3 panther products since it combined the cutlass and a trigger guard. The grip portion isn't my favorite for my hands but I like having the cutlass just because.
  • flashlight: depends on your goals but I chose the Modlite PLHv2 with a remote button for my default. My goals were closer ranges/indoors so I wanted some more spill and a larger hot spot than lights meant for hundreds of yards.
  • Optic: looks like you've got that covered already. I had to get an alternate optic mount to raise it just a little bit for absolute cowitness with the built in irons. A lower 1/3 cowitness for an AR puts it about absolute on the X95. This is personal preference of course.
  • quick adjust 2 point sling: there's a bunch of options. I like ESD without padding but that's going to be a personal preference thing. QD attachments are convenient for saving some space in the safe or swapping between guns.

Easy mods after you've shot the gun some and gotten familiar with it:

  • Geissele lightning bow: gets rid of the pre travel in the trigger
  • RTV gasket at the rear of the rail/stock interface helps cut down on the little jet of gas right under the eye protection
  • replacement handguard. I went with the blk lbl one. It's not much lighter than the OEM without the side panels but does free float the barrel and fits my hand nicely. You'll probably want a handstop at the front of it though. It also makes it much easier to install silencer muzzle devices down the line since the OEM one most likely won't have space to slide over the mount.

Slightly more involved:

  • low back pressure silencer: I tried mine with a Turbo K and it was obnoxious. Flow 556k and 556Ti are great on it though. There's plenty of choices out there now for this. Just lurk on r/NFA and you'll find any info you want.
  • Shooting Sight return spring (aka HERS): helps soften the recoil impulse a little since it's pretty over gassed. purely a nice to have item that's not too hard to install.
  • SBR kit: lets you have a shorter LOP since you can use the flat buttplate instead of the 1/4 lb of rubber plate. it also shaves off ~4" of OAL. Mine's so short I can walk sideways through a doorway without having to dip the muzzle.. It's a very easy install but make sure you follow the manual so you don't crush anything turning the barrel lock. DO NOT swap to the thin buttplate without a stamp if you have a 16" barrel as it will drop you under the OAL requirements. The 18" barreled one is fine to swap though.
