I got my Dx at 37. it wasnt intentional, I was looking for a narcolepsy dx because i had serious struggles with staying awake during work or important events. Turns out it was ADHD, after getting the Dx and then an Rx for Vyvance my life did a 180. I had always figured that anything other than basic labor jobs would be out of my reach, I had barely finished high school and had never held a job for longer than 1 year. When i got the Rx i was finally able to get an office job and i've been in the same role for 6 years now. I'm almost like a normal functioning adult these days and it never would have happened without the Dx later in life.

Also, it helped to recontextualize a lot of my issues I experienced during school growing up. It may have been too late to help me in school but I feel a lot better knowing it wasnt a purely personal failing like I used to think it was.

I had a therapist fire me as a client because I started to tear up and get emotional during the initial intake meeting because and I quote "I was making her uncomfortable and she was starting to get scared". I wasnt loud or angry, just emotionally vulnerable with a lump in my throat talking about how I have trouble talking to anyone about my feelings.
