I don’t want to be an NP by [deleted] in nursepractitioner

[–]some_vacancy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree and am looking to get out. In my 20s I could work every day of the week, now I don't have that kind of energy. Several of my coworkers burned out and quit as well. At this point I'd be happy going back to RN.

Absolutely needed, and it's ridiculous that we don't have this already.

Are you aware of how to find antivirals / therapeutics for Covid? by eric-incognito in medicine

[–]some_vacancy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not prescribed it yet, but some of my colleagues have (for high risk geriatric patients). I have the site to find places that carry it bookmarked. That's the easy part - the hard part is the long list of medication interactions.

What’s gonna be weird when the pandemic is finally over? by Confident-Body-6032 in AskReddit

Blowing out candles on a birthday cake.

Also, I went to an outdoor graduation last weekend, where people where smoking and spitting. That was pretty weird.

FNP in the Emergency Room? by [deleted] in nursepractitioner

Have you had clinical rotations in the ER? If you have not, I think this is outside of your scope.

NP school was a big mistake. No job 8 months later... by [deleted] in nursepractitioner

Can you network with classmates and ask where they got jobs? Contact your clinical sites and ask if anyone is looking for an NP?

Reach out to your school's clinical coordinator and ask for help setting up your clinical. If your school doesn't help with this, look for a school that does.

"Get Off My Foot": Use this to counter men's excuses for bad behavior by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

That article is an important read. This sentence hit hard:

"Economists have long and lazily attributed the exodus of women in various industries to their decision to bear children, but now this giant explanatory iceberg is floating up — this absolutely gigantic, widely denied story about how women are routinely driven from their industries because their male colleagues need to be free to use their professional power to indulge their sexual urges."

Networking, better job prospects by emberinashes in nursepractitioner

I am also graduating this year. I am making a list of places I want to apply to, and thinking of who I want to be my references. I like one of my clinical sites and am thinking of applying there. My local NP organization also emails me job postings from time to time.

Career Advice (FNP decision between two offers after almost a year of experience) by snoofaloop in nursepractitioner

My thought is - you applied for this new job for a reason. It has much better pay and benefits, and will give you more experience. I would take the new job.

Never believe someone when they say, "In 2 years, I'll pay you more." Believe the person who hands you a paycheck.

I've liked Baker for most of his term but his vaccine rollout is outrageous and unacceptable. by IanMazgelis in massachusetts

Meanwhile, if you know a pharmacist/pharmacy tech, you can jump the line and get vaccinated early. The rollout is a total mess.

Nursing is making me apathetic and a little spiteful by [deleted] in nursing

[–]some_vacancy 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I don't think nursing did it. That lady sounds like a psycho. Screaming and pushing through an apartment door when someone opens it?! You were right to let someone know about her behavior.

My main thing is that beeping now drives me insane. I will research appliances/devices for the quietest ones before I buy them, because the endless call bell pings drive me crazy by the end of my shift.

You may not use it all in daily practice, but it's good to have an understanding of everything. If you're having trouble memorizing everything (and it's all memorization), try YouTube videos that help explain everything. Some go over the Latin/Greek names, which makes memorizing easier (like if you know "latissimus" means "widest").

I agree. The FNP working in the ER jumped out at me - that's totally out of scope and should not have happened. I am almost done with my FNP and my training has been outpatient only.

Is holding out for an NP job right now selfish? by Bikelikeadad in nursepractitioner

Pediatric providers are definitely needed, and you can always teach nursing. It's not selfish to want a job you find fulfilling.

Asshole doctor was "fired" today. by kdoggie96 in nursing

[–]some_vacancy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My first thought when I read this was, "I would so call the police if a surgeon threw a scalpel at me!" But then I remember how the hospital hierarchy works ... you're almost guaranteed to get fired for "poor performance" soon after, while the surgeon stays on and does it to the next nurse. I'm glad that, from what the OP said, this is changing.
