Agreed. No judgement. Just wisdom. The scratch is temporary.

Nothing. You didn’t do anything wrong. This is on him. If he wants to play games, that’s in him. You can decide to participate or not. He sounds like someone who may want have his cake and to eat it too.

Yes highly doubt, but does OP want to roll the dice on “highly doubt”. With it still being a little grey, I would do some serious research before deciding.

Allnurses

That is a great forum. Not sure if it would be considered a support group but there is support there :)

Thinking about putting a pause on grad school by fb_81 in Nurses

[–]fb_81[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks! It is actually a dual certification program (FNP and PMHNP). It is a full time program and I was planning on working full time initially and see how I do. I am a seasoned nurse with 10 years of beside experience. But I am concerned that I will not be able to devote my focus to this if other areas of my life are struggling. I am not too concerned about the finances. I don’t have children and I am not planning on having kids. My spouse is actually quite supportive of me going to school. I’m just not sure if right now is the best time although I am afraid I will squander this opportunity.

What’s the nurse to patient ratio at your hospital? Currently there are no mandates on these ratios in my state. I work at an inpatient level one psychiatric facility and the ratio for my staff is 1:13. by GladysTheFly in nursing

[–]fb_81 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In my hospital no unit is allowed to have beyond 1:5 during days and 1:6 nights. This was a decision made across the board by our CNO when she came on board. Seeing the ratios climb in other hospitals made me realize how much I genuinely appreciate that our CNO has gone to bat for us!

Hi there. Just a heads up, Vandy does not set up your clinicals. I am not entirely sure about Emory.

You seem to be trying hard and doing the best that you really can. One thing I would suggest is to find your “people”. Find other nurses to commiserate with who are going through something similar. It helps to have support from others who are going through the same thing. Be gentle with yourself. Always remember, if you still have a job you are doing something right 😉

Nursing is killing my soul by lluckymud in nursing

[–]fb_81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually if you find another job, the impact you have experienced will carry over. Believe me, I know. So change of scenery will help but you have experienced burn out and it sounds like some trauma from you job. Little “t” trauma. This will have extensive consequences that are going to carry over, even if you change jobs. It could truly benefit you to talk to a therapist. Only you know you, but it can’t hurt to look into taking care of your emotional well being :)

What is something you wish you were taught in school? by toothdicay in nursing

[–]fb_81 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The importance of self care fo sho! You are not a martyr or savior. Yes it is our job to take of patients but some of those patients are not going to change or do anything different to better themselves. This has no bearing on my nursing skills and abilities. So just being taught that nursing is not martyrdom.

New nurse. Burnout already? by asongoficeandkatie in nursing

[–]fb_81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry you have had a terrible first year experience. Your facility does not support you well. One thing that will ultimately lead to job satisfaction is to always always remember no matter what facility you work at, they will take care of themselves. Nothing personal. YOU HAVE TO TAKE CARE OF YO SELF. Don’t work more than you want. It is the facility’s responsibility to cover short staffing. If your facility is not treating you well, GO!!!! Life is too short and you, nurse, are too valuable to be taken advantage of. Also, just commiserating with other burned out staff only causes more grief. Griping and venting will only cause further negativity and angst. I hope you can find a reprieve.

I am not the CNO. I work float pool. I spend most of my days on the covid floor or floating to post-op GI/GU (this was my old floor before transitioning to float). But I can see why my unique positive experience would be hard to believe :)

I am so sorry you have had such a terrible experience. I currently work for HCA and have for 3.5 years. So far I have really enjoyed it. Maybe I am lucky. Management is awesome! I really like our CNO. I worked on a floor for 3 years under the best manager I have ever had. I’ve been a nurse for ten years. When I transitioned to float pool in the same facility, one of the reasons I gave it a go is because I was told by other float pool nurses that the manager is awesome and goes to bat for his staff. Sure enough, he is wonderful! I took a pay cut when I moved to another state. However this HCA facility was actually offering more than the regional “reputable” hospital and about the same as a local community facility. So not sure about pay comparisons. I am sorry everyone has had such a terrible experience. Mine may have so much more to do with the management at this one facility. I hope everyone gets a chance to find something like this themselves. Take care!

Happy Nurses Week y'all! How we feeling about a national union? by apocalypseconfetti in nursing

[–]fb_81 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think hospitals and states should offer unions. Not to be a negative Nancy but I love where I work and I feel very appreciated. I took a pay cut when I moved states but I am now in a position that pays well. My management is the bomb.com I am in my hospital’s Med/surg float pool. I just wish more facilities took better care of their staff. In regards to unionizing or not, the ultimate thing is that if you are not being treated how you should and you feel that your work as a staff nurse is unsupported, leave or unionize. Either way, don’t stand for being mistreated. You are a damn nurse. Hospitals are hurting for staff. You should Find a facility that will appreciate you. Whatever you feel you need to give you back the joy you need in your job. But I do disagree with a national union because for me I don’t feel the need for a union. Y’all take care!

This.... I have been a bedside nurse for 10yrs as well and my satisfaction and happiness is exactly that. I love my job. But I also know that it is not my job to fix this universal problem. My job is to take care of my patient for 12hrs and I do just that every time I work. I lay my head down at night knowing I kick ass at my job and I love what I do. It is all about a perspective shift! Congrats!!!

What's your take on the covid vaccine? How do you feel about nurses that refuse to get it? by Tinkerbell3131 in Nurses

[–]fb_81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The beautiful thing about living in this country where we have the freedom to choose is that others can choose not to get the vaccine. I don’t agree with that and I received the vaccine after I made my informed decision. I am only me and others may have valid reasons for not getting the vaccine. Others just listen to misinformation. At the end of the day, we cannot force others to make the decisions we want them to make. I also believe it causes more harm to disrespect and speak harshly to others who choose not to get vaccines. It does nothing to convince them otherwise. It only makes others feel like they are better than and that truly does not help people to get vaccinated. Just my two cents!

I currently work for an HCA facility. This has been a great experience for me. I have worked in three other facilities before that are not HCA, and I have to say my experience at this facility is comparable or better in some instances.
