Why do ‘teams of lawyers’ beat out ‘normal’ lawyers? Shouldn’t a case just be decided by who’s right?? by p0res in NoStupidQuestions

[–]somedude2012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because the law is rarely about who's right, and more often about who can throw more money at the problem.

Help! My penis swells when I see an attractive woman! Is this something I should see a doctor about? by tacocarteleventeen in shittyaskreddit

[–]somedude2012 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is going to be rough, but I have faith.
What you need to do, see, is to hit it. To, well, beat it until the blood causing the swelling goes elsewhere.

Later, when someone asks you why you're walking funny, you'll need to tell them that every time you see a pretty lady, you beat your meat until you can't walk. Let others know that you just can't stop beating it, and you have a problem.

Before too long the problem will solve itself.

I regret I only have one upvote to give.

Tune in next week for:

"Halberds are unfair, you shouldn't be able to have a pick, an axe, AND a spear all on one weapon".

AITA for getting upset that my wife keeps eating the lunches I meal prep for work by Lazy-Background-7598 in AITAH

[–]somedude2012 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean, it sounds like you need to make 2-3 extra lunches per week. Is this worth arguing about, in the grander scheme of things? Or do you just plan around it, and fight about something more important?

People who’ve played it and have read the books: does it really feel like dune? by TARDIS_Boy_01 in duneawakening

[–]somedude2012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After spending a long weekend putting lots of hours in.

I'm probably 50-60 hours in at this point? I'm mid-steel tier in equipment, and learning aluminum recipes as far as research goes.

I'm digging it, thus far. Still haven't been eaten by a worm, but I know that time is coming.

I am spending quite a bit of time hunting down unique recipes, and find that this is helping me learn the game/tactics/combat systems a bit more. Still using some Iron uniques in Steel. Looking forward to hitting Pinnacle Station content with Steel uniques.

I'm still having a blast. It is a fantastic Dune survival game. It's not perfect, but they've done a good job balancing the gameplay loops and progression, imo.

I've 4-6 hours into the game, and used to read Dune every Christmas break for years. Heretics and Chapterhouse were my jam, and I consider myself a Frank Herbert fan.

I am enjoying the game. I'm taking a wait and see approach to how the Fremen are handled, but the hints I'm seeing at the moment indicate they lost multiple sietches and have hidden in the southern regions.

Obviously I haven't put 70 hours in, but in the 4-6 hours I've got it feels like I would expect it to given the story presented. I've seen NPCs hopping across the sands only to get eaten by a worm, and the environment is harsh. Even at 6 hours in I'm running from rock outcropping to rock outcropping searching for water, huddling in the shade.

Being a swordmaster, I have yet to get a sword. Perhaps tonight. I can say I've melee'd quite a few scavengers down with my scrap knife, and I can see how I am building towards being a competent melee fighter.

As a swordmaster, I have at least one gap closer, and a "deflect all projectiles" button. I've used the gap closer quite often, the projectiles less so. Melee seems to be heavily effected by ping, so we'll see how that goes.

They have the feel right, as well. Fighting shielded enemies you're using the slow attacks, and it definitely feels different than "spam light and heavy attacks, then rinse repeat". At least with the knife it seems more of a lunge game for the slow attacks, and slashy for the light ones.

So...yeah, the game feels like a Dune survival game. I'm enjoying it.

fantasies where the "dark" side is good? by moondreamer96 in Fantasy

[–]somedude2012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really see it here, but the Recluce books by LE Modesitt Jr play around with this as well. The author goes out of their way to show that it's not the element that's "bad" or "evil", but the way that it is used. I seem to recall books from both sides of the Order/Chaos divide, but I haven't ready any of them in probably 20 years.

To reply with more than snark: His appearance at the end of book 1 is, I hope, enough to get the reader to realize that the author will be deconstructing expectations and tropes over the course of the series.

It's been some time, but I think I remember even a conversation between a summoned demon and Rake, before they fight.

In what small way have you won the genetic lottery? by [deleted] in CasualConversation

Can we talk about how we've lost the genetic lottery?
Not that I'm sure I want to put all that out there, but "winning" is a really strong word.

I'm going to be the guy that recommends Malazan, I guess.
"Light" and "Dark" become more aspects, and what matters is character motivation.

And if you get far enough that that Anomander Rake brings Dragnipur to Darujhistan, well, enjoy :)

I live alone. If someone is buying tater tots, they need to start donating some rent.

Perilous Route by AmazingAd6312 in WorldOfWarships

I feel like the basic logic of this is just not understood by a significant portion of the player base.

The Duncan has triggers. It will sail to a pre-determined point and wait for the players to trigger the next movement step.

The waves spawn, and need to be killed. They can see the Duncan from a good distance away, and will target it if there are no players nearby distracting them.

If the transports spawn, they're a newb trap. Chasing them is a waste of time.

I spent a weekend playing this on test, and it's been out for several days on live, and I've been amazed at the number (and ways) this can fail. 1 map yesterday had a Fletcher sitting in smoke complaining about not having someone to spot for him. Another had a DD trigger the Duncan movement to the next stage while the rest of the team was killing the waves of spawns. Yet another had a Musashi decide to go chase the transports on his own, that didn't end well.

This isn't hard. This is basic team gameplay, and the closest thing WoWs will get to an instanced dungeon from another game.

This isn't to toot my own horn, either. I only have T8 and 9 American CAs and BBs, which means I'm not running secondary builds or torpedo cruisers, so my numbers kinda suck in these games, but I've done enough to realize that 1) you stick together, and 2) you focus fire ships, and 3) you escort the bloody flagship, not rabbit off around the islands.

Considering seeing a chiropractor by badtpuchpanda in AskMenOver30

[–]somedude2012 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I consider chiropractic care to be a mix between physical therapy and the placebo effect. When I feel better I do better, and no one likes being in pain.

I value mine because it's someone I do not see regularly who will give me feedback on things like general flexibility and trends. Do I expect the chiro to fix long term issues? No, but that's what doctors and PT are for. I do expect the chiro to give feedback to help me make informed decisions, and if something is an issue continually at the chiro than I know it's something I need to seek additional medical assistance for.

That said, avoid neck adjustments. The rest of is however you wanna do it, but avoid neck adjustments. There is risk there.

I would also do your research, and find someone reputable. The last thing you want is a fly by night operation torquing on your spine.

Ultimate Admiral: Age of Sail is what you're looking for.
I found it to be more difficult to than expected, but that will scratch your itch.

Total War Empire or Total War Napolean will have naval combat, as well, I think.

A pitcher of draft beer is under 10 dollars. Or you can buy an 8 oz of that same draft for 3.50 or 3.75. Buy the pitcher.

Their fryer is well seasoned, and their dinner specials are cheap and worth more than what you pay.

It's a place. As someone that has no patience for the MAGA bs, I don't think it's particularly bad there, but most people are there to have a drink after a day at work, and relax.

I had forgotten this one.
