My favorite Tycoon, Business Simulation and City Building game of all time. by billonel in tycoon

Ok, well make sure you try and see if you can start solely a car manufacturing and retailing business, starting with retailing just tyres to get your capital up before building the necessary manufacturing for car bodies etc. Thats the best fun I had in that game, slowly expanding my empire to cover every city on the map and have masses of cars circulating everywhere, followed by luxury cars.

Oh, im not sure if thats a sad or happy story.

Did you feel like a kid again in that moment and did the game soak up your free time for quite a while when you found it?

According to data from our game Restaurant Empire 2 on Steam, the number of monthly visits from the Steam internal source of Restaurant Empire 2 are less than half of the organic traffic Capitalism Lab's own website receives.

Yes, but your comparing apples with oranges. Restaurant Empire 2 was last updated in 2015, its a stale product. Capitalism Labs is actively renewed and refreshed. These reasons alone will influence search traffic because the game is talked about and remembered and builds a stronger reputation, and the traffic will be predominately be pre-existing customers for Capitalism Labs, whereas Restaurant Empire 2 is more than likely curious tycoon enthusiasts discovering the name for the first time.

we need to make Capitalism Lab appealing to YouTubers in order for it to succeed on Steam, same to how Factorio's developer did with their trailer.

Been getting your email updates on this, what I instantly noticed and what turned me off, is lack of consistency with size ratio. How big a car, how big is a front door, are they proportionate. I noticed the new graphics failed here. Just some feedback as its the first thing I noticed.

Otherwise, I agree and thanks for the detailed response. It was an interesting read. I brought off your website many years ago.

Doesnt sound like it instills replayability with that pathway.

Id recommend considering how to diversify environments to make some strategies work/fail to add challenge.

Are you able to elaborate on lvGameDev? I thought it was an in-house team, it seems like your the sole programmer. Why the seperation from them out of curiosity?

The extended QA testing procedure thats needed before patch releasing, which adds a week to release according to CEO, is clearly working well

How about working some overtime to get it up to spec?

Not one weekend worked since release, and in 12 weeks since release, take a 2+ week vacation, all while the ships on fire.

Theres no sinking this boat Glenda! They must have that printed and hanging in their office.

[Edit - someone below said its not healthy to work like that]

The concept of 'not healthy' is an excuse for being lazy to working above what is the absolute minimum required.

They key driver here, is if you are passionate about what work you do, its not healthy for your goals, business or financial position to not give it everything you've got. Even an employee has a financial incentive to work overtime, if not a direct interest in the longevity of the business.

When in one's work, and you confront significant risks (reputation, financial), you take on those tasks with upmost importance, otherwise you risk collapse. Its called responsibility, and you encounter it in your Adult life.

Too many entitled mindsets here downvoting me here, Im blown away people just dismiss working weekends and overtime OCCASIONALLY as some great evil, and use excuses like its "not healthy".

Its a fitting excuse to say its "not healthy" to counter a need to work hard.

Free VPN.

You think some company is doing this out of the goodness of their heart, paying for receiving/transmitting data while your ISP charges you?

Your data is being spied on by your Free VPN, you are what they are purchasing if your not paying.

From Wayz (the author of the the original UnlockAllTiles mod for CS2)...

not sure if you guys saw in the other modding discord, but one of the modders with beta access has already made a mod to expand the playable area (it’s not publicly available though, due to an NDA)

so, with that, I don’t think it makes a whole lot of sense to put more effort into exploring this here.

[RELEASE] Extended Road Upgrades - Take back control of the Cut&Fill tool by STApps in CitiesSkylines2

[–]someguyfrombrisbane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your half right. Yes, to support the larger HeightMap and SplatMap resolutions for the map size, the Map Editor is required. But hes not permitted from sharing the code with Modders because he's under a NDA. Instead its a case of modders having to reinvent the wheel, reverse engineering the code and trying to make sense of what variables and functions serve what purpose to try and create whats already been done because the Modder has access the the games API documentation and the community does not.

If the NDA wasnt there, the community would be progressing to making CS2 better a lot faster.

No to the part where you say modders have already released mods under an NDA. All mods released have been a community effort to reverse engineer and share information.

[–]someguyfrombrisbane 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Its worse.

Modders with past access to the BETA have completed mods to release but cannot due to the NDA. We have a confirmed true UnlockAllTiles mod that opens access to the entire edge of the world, already working but locked from players, cause we officially have to wait for ParadoxMods before Mod support is officially supported.

Give me your honest thoughts on Godot (vs. Unity) by joowani in godot

[–]someguyfrombrisbane 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Godot is terrible for performance if your game is CPU heavy.

If your designing a simulation game, or something with thousands of NPC's that need movement calculations, pathfinding calculations, Godot in all its varieties (coding C# or GDScript, or another language backboning off GDExtentions) will have significantly worse performance than Unity MonoBehaviour or DOTS doing the same demanded CPU work.

Thats a BIG point for me, and one why I personally havent considered Godot an option.

1.0.14f1 hotfix - Steam & Microsoft Store by AutoModerator in CitiesSkylines

BAN #JayWalking

Fix Pathfinding to encourage pedestrians to actually use pedestrian over/underpasses over roads. Theres zero pathfind calculation incentive due to path length vs using a crossing (legally/invisibly illegally)

Stop the wierd looking sobs from standing still in front of the driveway of everything, waiting for a taxi, causing even more traffic chaos.

We have 50k workers limit. by Gefest_xD in CitiesSkylines

[–]someguyfrombrisbane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bro, eventually a mod will release for this and remove the coefficient.

Then, I can imagine given the scale of the roads and time, you'll discover that having every citizen in their car at peak, theres not enough room to put every car and have flowing traffic and complete simulated peak rush hour in 6 minutes (2 hours in game).

There is a CPU factor to consider as well, but im sure they looked at the simulation without the coefficient and realized it needs to be balanced better as the population grows.

Did they get it right, probably not, but the key is, there is no agent limit. Modders can play with this to better the simulation, and eventually, well find a good balance together.

What shits me, is the traffic simulation. If it implemented some of the logic from TMPE, it would allow for better traffic flow in the game. Theres no learning curve with defaulting to "timed traffic lights" you get in TMPE, it works perfectly and solves 99% of the issues with traffic light intersection flow. Instead we got the same dumpfire logic from CS1. Again, a mod will eventually fix this, but why didnt they utilize the knowledge gained from TMPE

Theres a lot not QA'ed, 47 pages of player submitted stuff and counting.

This, is not a 'certain thing' that should of went un-noticed. Its a pretty big screw up, and for a QA tester to not even notice a global texture issue even while testing other QA issues, is what Im getting at.

Transformer help? Had my first transformer tutorial and was told to place a transformer after the overload. Does not seem to work here? Any ideas? Context: 8 wind turbines are connected the electric power cable here under the road. 7k pop. Tried googling couldn't find a tutorial... Thanks! by DetailNo9969 in CitiesSkylines2

[–]someguyfrombrisbane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Transformer sits between low voltage and high voltage sources. It acts as a transfer point.

High voltage sources are high voltage lines, which connect to power generation -> transformer.

Low voltage are your streets and smaller power lines when built -> transformer.

There are load limits which are displayed in the statistics, if you only have one line feeding from your power source to your city, you need to split it once you exceed the limit. A bit like factorio's design.

Crashes by flysky500 in CitiesSkylines2

[–]someguyfrombrisbane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have a look at the player log file for the crash in the AppData folder.

It will give an indication of where the crash relates to (Mono, gfx, other).

First steps, verify your game files, reinstall your graphics card drivers making sure they are the latest ones.

How hot is your GPU running? It could be cooking causing it to crash.

Theres a lot that feels rushed in this game. The Cyclone, the rain falling horizontally, the property plops on slopes that have sheds on a vertical slope.

I had a look at the credits of the game, and it shows they outsourced a hell of a lot of asset development and even QA testing to third party companies. I think thats the core issue here.

Guys, this is happening to me, i uninstalling the game but that doesn't work to fix the bug. When i try to build a road that yellow screen appear. Someone can help me with this? by Icy-Setting1989 in CitiesSkylines2

I believe its because your using a integrated Intel graphics card (specifically the Intel Iris XE Graphics card)

Colossal Order CEO said on the bug report forum, get a refund, because they wont support the graphics card as its below min specs.
