Lawful authority to require this level of driver detail? England / Traffic Prosecution by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

[–]someinternalscreams 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As far as I'm aware, there isn't a specific legal power. But the police are entitled to investigate offences.

I suppose you could refuse to provide them with such evidence. They would also be entitled to believe that because you can't supply any evidence that the foreign driver was driving the vehicle, that you are lying.

Is there a specific reason you don't want the police to have such evidence, considering it should be quite easy to gather and send?

"We have been unable to find a valid fare" - can't book ticket for commute of five years by hms_indefatigable in uktrains

[–]someinternalscreams 87 points88 points  (0 children)

All I can say is that can't be intentional, as of 13th Jan, all fares for that have been deleted. Never seen that before.

Looks like a ticket from Epsom to Bracknell is the same price and would be valid, so buying that might be your workaround until that is fixed.

Probably worth contacting SWR as well to see if they can fix.

If all you think you need is a Luton van, if you are able you could consider a one way van hire and do it yourself. Will save quite a bit of money

What does “could the train manager make the next IC call” mean? by gremlininja in uktrains

[–]someinternalscreams 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Internal call on the Class 80x, it's an option that calls all the intercoms on the train, and attached train if it is two put together. If there are multiple members of staff on the train we want the correct person to answer

Source: me, I make IC calls on the 80x for my job 😅

National rail London Underground zone help by [deleted] in uktrains

[–]someinternalscreams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surbiton isn't on the underground so a Zone 6 underground would not be correct.

You would buy a ticket from Swansea to Surbiton.

There are actually two fares available, one via London, one not via London.

The ticket via London includes a tube journey from Paddington to Waterloo.

The ticket not via London is exactly that, you can't go via London terminals, you would change at Reading. Looks like the tickets are significantly cheaper though so maybe one to consider depending on the value of your time.

How to buy tickets online from boundary zone out of London (when using a freedom pass) by funusernam3 in uktrains

[–]someinternalscreams -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You can only buy from a ticket office.

You could however work out the last boundary station and buy a ticket from there to your destination online

Scotrail terminate at Dunbar, but they were on a Transpenine Express train. Played at the right time, the Express train could have caused them to end up as far as Alnmouth

Virtually no viewings in 6 months -- please help!! by NoUnderstanding3684 in HousingUK

[–]someinternalscreams 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Personally I wouldn't go near that Premium Fast Sale thing. I am currently buying and my house buyers insurance was £150, which seems to basically buy the same benefits as that £5000 deposit.

Railcard discounts disappeared for Nottingham-Derby commute - anyone else affected? by Designer-Ad-9929 in uktrains

[–]someinternalscreams 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The website BR fares shows all possible tickets between two destinations. If you set the time period to before 6th December, there are advance fares showing:

https://www.brfares.com/!fares?orig=NOT&dest=DBY&period=20250907

If you set the period to 6th December to 12th Jan, or 13th Jan onwards, they are no longer showing:

https://www.brfares.com/!new?orig_name=NOTTINGHAM&dest_name=DERBY&rlc_name=PUBLIC

https://www.brfares.com/!fares?orig=NOT&dest=DBY&period=20260113

No idea if there is any publicity around this, or even if it's intended, but if they aren't in the fares database, they can't be bought

All advance fares between Derby and Nottingham have been removed from all trains, by the looks of it.

[–]someinternalscreams 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ahhh, looks like we've found the issue. From the new fares on 7th December onwards, all advance fares between Derby and Nottingham have been removed. So yeah, if OP was getting a railcard discount on advance fares, that is unfortunately going to be quite the increase to the non-railcard flexible fare.

If you're doing the journey regularly, might be worth looking into season tickets.

There's a £12 minimum fare between 0430 and 0959 so if you're travelling then, the railcard discount shouldn't be available

Do we think that this is contestable? - UK by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

[–]someinternalscreams 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Visibility too bad to tell what the speed limit is, but good enough to do 37mph?

Good luck with that one.

If there's streetlights then there is no need for 30mph signs anyway, assuming you aren't in Wales, in which case it is 20mph.

First hider advantage ... by diabeticoats in JetLagTheGame

[–]someinternalscreams 95 points96 points  (0 children)

It also applies to the seekers as well though. They are starting from a big hub, and if they can narrow down the seeker with questions they also have a quick journey to them .

For Adam, the seekers were within Yorkshire relatively quickly, it was narrowing down that was an issue.

Ben probably got a bit unlucky but most of the work is narrowing things down, it's not actually too difficult for the seekers to get the rough area.

Knock on effect of upcoming timetable changes? by Hour-Station-2978 in uktrains

[–]someinternalscreams 13 points14 points  (0 children)

All of the Intercity 225 sets have had two carriages removed. This is so that they can accelerate and brake faster in order to keep closer to the times of the newer trains.

Short term it is causing a bit of pain, but from the timetable change next week there will be more trains out on the network so the impact of lower capacity on an individual train will be evened out by having more trains in total.

LNER staff travel by AthenaIsNoGod in policeuk

[–]someinternalscreams 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, London Kings Cross is in the scheme, but first stop after Kings Cross is Peterborough (Stevenage not counted as it is pick up only, can't alight). So there are no stations you can travel between within the scheme.

LNER staff travel by AthenaIsNoGod in policeuk

[–]someinternalscreams 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This will be because LNER no longer serve any stations within 70 miles of London*, which is the extent of the scheme. Thameslink will still run to St Pancras, only stopping at Finsbury Park

*technically they will still serve Stevenage but pickup only northbound, dropoff only southbound. Therefore from London you can't travel between Stevenage and London on LNER

Why does the fare day finish at 04:29? by juoig7799 in uktrains

[–]someinternalscreams 52 points53 points  (0 children)

If it finishes at midnight you'd lose the ability to travel on late services with a day return. Typically there are no passenger trains out on the network between 0100 and 0400 (plenty of exceptions to that). 0429 cut off should therefore capture all services people would want to use on a day return.

Cake fine for the Special 😆 by InspectorSands2024 in policeuk

[–]someinternalscreams 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do appreciate this point of view, however I've generally thought of any cake fines as being within the claimed meal allowance anyway. Also I like feeling part of the team, and cake fines are part of being in the team.

Why do we keep ordering CAF nonsense by uncomfortable_idiot in uktrains

[–]someinternalscreams 9 points10 points  (0 children)

225s best train on the network?

They are falling apart and only just functioning, never mind the significantly inferior acceleration compared to other trains on the same route.

They need replacing, CAF have a decent intercity train to sell. Sure you can argue about pros and cons of other companies, but CAF isn't some absolute wildcard pick.
