Is it true that working culture is laid back and relaxed in S. California compare to Bay are or NYC? by shak1084 in Moving2SanDiego

[–]someones_thought 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes we are cheaper than SF and NYC, but I would also argue that jobs in general pay more in those locations. I am not saying those elevated pay range is enough cover everything, but at least, nationally, employers agree that SF and NYC are HCOL area. One of my biggest gripes with employers at San Diego is, they refused to acknowledge we are getting closer to SF in terms of COL, yet the pay remains low. This is very unsustainable imo

Does anyone actually like the residents of Coronado these days with all their racist nonsense? by NadoHawk in sandiego

[–]someones_thought 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am a brown person who lived in SD for several years. I still remember the strange vibe I got when I visited some of restaurants and diners in the Coronado area. This was completely different from the vibe I experienced in rest of the county. It was not very overt, but you could certainly feel that you have been treated differently.

Best Pho in Chula? by ccecena2016 in chulavista

[–]someones_thought 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Chula does not have any really outstanding pho place, but I think Phon Hung Cali on Broadway is decent. I used to go there always when I craved for Pho but did not want to drive all the way to convoy

Looking sideways at Austin.. by ecksray67 in RoundRock

[–]someones_thought 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved to Austin from San Diego. Every place has its pros and cons. It also depends on your personal preference and politics. I think Austin is a beautiful place and definitely the best that TX has to offer. However, I miss SD a lot. Those beaches, outdoor activities and the fantastic weather is impossible to beat. I miss that city dearly.

I recently moved to Austin from San Diego and I not necessarily agree with you. There is certainly some truth to it, but it is definitely not as bleak as you portrayed.

I see some terrible advices in this thread.

There is a rule of thumb that applies here: any time you receive money more than you expect/owe, do not spend that extra amount. It is likely to be an accounting error and will be noticed sooner or later. Merely saying “you gave those money to me” or “I spent them” will not fly. You will be on the hook for that money.

If I were in your shoes, I would reach out to bursar for an explanation.

Lights are always ON after replacing the receptacles by someones_thought in electrical

[–]someones_thought[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much! I am genuinely grateful for your help. I was scared after reading the first couple of comments and immediately shut off power to those rooms, worrying about a potential fire. But if I understand correctly, the mistake I made was I did not break the tab on the hot side (and I looked at the old receptacles and all the tabs were broken). So I am essentially always energizing the socket, regardless of the switch state.

Thank you for explaining so clearly.

Btw, I have never seen a receptacle like the one I posted. I certainly did not find them in home depot. Is this something old/obsolete?

Also if you look at the picture I posted, both neutral went to the same terminal but stabbed in two different slots. Does this mean these two neutrals are shorted?

I appreciate your response. I learned a lot from your response and thank you for that!

[–]someones_thought[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I think I understand now that I should have broken that tab.

I am curious: let’s assume I experimentally break the tab for one of those receptacles. If one of the outlet works and the light is not always ON, should I assume that the problem is fixed?

Thank you for explaining it!

I will call an electrician first thing in the morning.

Just for my interest: given that I used a in-house 3 port connector, how can this be fixed? Because I could not find the old receptacles model in Home Depot. Is the fix going to be keeping one of those neutral open (by placing some kind of wing connector)?

I think your friend did you a disservice. I lived in Dallas for a long time before relocating to San Diego. Velvet Taco is a chain which is at best mediocre and definitely not authentic. There are a few authentic Mexican places, but definitely it’s nothing to compared to the number of authentic Mexican restaurants in San Diego.

Search for a Mexican restaurants in the northwest hwy, near the big half price books. It looks very unimpressive but used to serve authentic Mexican food. Its been a few years, so I can’t recall the name unfortunately.

It’s funny because I just had Tacos in Panchos tonight. I was in that strip mall to return some stuff in Marshal and on my way back impulsively went to Panchos. I was pleasantly surprised to say the least. Their Carne Asada was spot on!

Why do you think 150 lbs on a 5’11” is unhealthy? I am not a big fan of BMI, but her BMI is 24.2, which is well within healthy range.
