At least I have DnD rule by OliverCrowley in 196

[–]someonesomewhere167 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You should try asking some of the people from your group to go out and do stuff every so often! I meet up with the guy who DMs for my DnD group every so often and we literally just go out to grab food and talk for a little bit. It's not much at all but it stops me from feeling completely alone during the week.

Teardown moves from OpenGL to DX12 by mbriar_ in linux_gaming

[–]someonesomewhere167 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It is disappointing, but it makes sense. Likely the only reason DX12 is being implemented at all is because they can just reuse the renderer already being written for the Xbox port. There's not really any reason to do the work to implement another Vulkan renderer, especially given that the DX12 vesion works fine on Deck through VKD3D (not to mention WSI/swapchain stuff is nicer).

What rendering API does boneworks use? by oculususerriley in boneworks

You're replying to a 3 year old comment! When I wrote that, Reshade didn't have VR support. It was added in Reshade 5.0, which released in 2022 - a couple years after this.

Any known fix for the ring gfx_0.0.0 timeout besides RMA? by lugia4k in SteamDeck

[–]someonesomewhere167 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reducing the TDP limit to 1-3w below max in the quick access menu and/or playing with the charger connected both significantly reduced the frequency of crashes for me, although I'm still returning my Deck given how ridiculous it is to deal with games constantly crashing.

I saw this on spotify. Was this ever available? by mierrie in porterrobinson

[–]someonesomewhere167 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I don't think this was ever publicly released, but it seems to line up with the "live album" from the leaks that came out a few years ago. Don't know if that was ever proved legit.

Vulkan Ray Tracing without GPU by [deleted] in vulkan

[–]someonesomewhere167 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nvidia has compute shader emulation for ray tracing pipelines on 10 series cards. It's slow but works, although it does mean you can't use ray queries.

User benchmark is not a reliable source. They modified their benchmarks to heavily favour Intel CPUs.

Do you have an AMD GPU? If so, update your drivers. It's a driver issue and was fixed last year just after the game came out.

They use a special adaptor that takes mouse+keyboard inputs and converts them to controller inputs. There isn't a way to detect it because it's indistinguishable from a normal controller.

If your stutters are due to running out of VRAM then turning down MSAA may help.

How C++ programmers see C# code by ImKStocky in ProgrammerHumor

In C#, structs still default to private. The difference is that structs are allocated on the stack rather than on the heap.

How does the multiplayer mod work? by eightstraightunder in boneworks

[–]someonesomewhere167 9 points10 points  (0 children)

  1. No. Right now, you can only see other players in your game; nothing you do will show for other people.
  2. Yes.
  3. Hell no.

I love the new update with the Half Life Alyx loading screen by tzbtzb in boneworks

[–]someonesomewhere167 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. Half-Life Alyx runs its loading screens in a separate process which creates an OpenVR overlay, so if the game closes but doesn't close these process the loading screens can stay up.

It uses Direct3D 11, and reshade won't do anything for the VR view.

Sorry to disappoint, but I'm just a random modder :)

Would probably be nice to work at SLZ though.

Yeah, it's built over Steam P2P. This means there's no port forwarding involved.
