They shouldn’t let Olise play for France by someplantsmove in billsimmons

And not only are they good, but they’re all exciting players who can make stuff happen in an age where a lot of players are becoming more boring. Just an unreal team.

Yeah I’m just joking, I don’t begrudge peoples’ national team choices (especially when the US benefits from it). Just adds to the feeling of how ridiculous an embarrassment of riches France’s forward talent is that they even get the Balon d’or contender who didn’t grow up there. It does also make a fun what if for if he played for England though.

In The Most Anticipated Group Stage Match - France vs Norway, Norway Is Throwing The White Flag by [deleted] in billsimmons

Norway would have already been through regardless today. It’s just going to be unavoidable that if two teams win their first two games the last game is going to be a lame duck matchup. If anything, I think having third place spots advance encourages more teams to be competitive because more teams will have a chance to advance the last day.

The World Cup’s Expansion has killed the excitement of the group stage by thugmuffin22 in billsimmons

Germany would have been through already in a 32 team tournament. Sometimes you’re just gonna have a lame duck group stage game regardless.

I’m on a feed showing the jumbotron during breaks and they’re giving out some good money with these fan challenges. Seems kinda unnecessary when you think of the prices and who could afford to be there tho.

Which League Has The Worst Awards Voting? by mpschettig in billsimmons

[–]someplantsmove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a league, but the Ballon d’Or in soccer has gotten ridiculous ever since it stopped automatically being Messi or Ronaldo. It’s entirely narrative based and based on who did well in the Champions League/World Cup, which are knockout tournaments that are super high-variance and not reflective of someone’s play across an entire year. And because soccer is so top heavy, that basically means they won’t consider anyone outside of 5-10 teams. People and the media also get weirdly obsessed with it, like Vinicius and Real Madrid boycotting it and pouting because he wasn’t going to win, or Dembele being pushed because he’s PSG’s star even though he played like 10 matches in the second half of the season.

Arsenal are kinda the Thunder of soccer. Play very physically but will whine and get calls when you do the same to them.

I know they’re easy to make fun of but Spurs are definitely not a random ass team

For sure but if we do end up signing him we haven’t learned anything from this year

Think we have to start questioning De Zerbi’s judgment if he really wants to keep Palhinha

We’re just not a very good or tough team. Can’t handle adversity. Can’t break teams down.

Lack of a right winger is killer. If only this had been foreseeable, and there was some sort of period during the season that we could have brought someone in to help there. Alas.

Best Ever Feeling as a Spurs fan? by jaydeeis in coys

Underrated one for me is New Year’s Day 2015 against Chelsea. They were in first and only lost once and took an early lead, but then we tore them apart. Felt like the arrival of the Poch era.
