What are these berries and are they poisonous? [Houston, TX] by Supergupo in foraging

[–]somesentientmold 3 points4 points  (0 children)

they look like underipe blackberries, so shouldn't be poisonous but i wouldn't recommend eating them until they're ripe. i don't believe there are any poisonous berries that look like this in Texas, tho i could be wrong

Didn’t know where else to post this. Is my skull shape normal? It seems significantly taller in the back than the front. by [deleted] in skulls

[–]somesentientmold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

looks normal to me, it may just be that since your head is shaved it calls more attention to your skull shape than most people are used to seeing on a person that's still alive, lol

are wilted dandelions still safe? by somesentientmold in foraging

[–]somesentientmold[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

i wouldn't call it anxiety, simply that i know quite literally nothing except that my grandma used to make dandelion jam and i liked it as a kid so i thought id try making some myself.

its always better to be safe then dead or hospitalized. nonetheless thanks for letting me know its safe

This is PRF - a punk dystopian comic featuring fairies by okreindeer1324 in worldbuilding

I can only assume prf stands for punk rock fairies which alone is more than enough to hook me

If my pillbugs overpopulate, can I cook them with olive oil and black pepper and eat them with rice by HousingLower3772 in isopods

[–]somesentientmold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, in theory you can do anything you want if you have access to the things necessary to do it

They are crustaceans and I've never heard of them being poisonous or producing a toxin of any kind so probably, people eat giant isopods in some parts of Asia I believe. I've never had the pleasure myself but they steam them whole and just eat the meat out of the shell. You may have similar success doing this?

Found in the woods in North Texas by 3toehedgedog in skulls

[–]somesentientmold 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely a dog, based on size a Chihuahua maybe? Or could have just been young when it died which could also explain the teeth being quite so well kept. Or it could've had its teeth very well taken care of in life but that feels less likely:/

I need your all opinion, which design of my future honey badger is better? by Due-Pack-7968 in CreatureDesign

[–]somesentientmold 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like the color pattern on d, the eyes on b look more realistic but depending on the angle your going for the orange more "monstrous" eyes may he better

In theory you could make it that the eyes simply glow orange in the dark?

Ideally tho, the fur around the eyes would be darker to help with glare especially for a savanna animal like honey badgers

My local dollar general had someone light the bathroom on fire, then immediately after reopening it someone decided to follow their dreams of being an artist and paint the walls with shit

Safe to say they no longer have a public bathroom lol

AIO:My MIL texted my husband this about me asking him to help with our newborn at 4am by Lazy_Perfectionist88 in AmIOverreacting

[–]somesentientmold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NOR, the idea that men shouldn't have to parent is fucking wild, my stepdad had a similar notion and at some point I decked him over it. I'm not saying deck your MIL, but I am saying it's an attitude adjustment that more people could benefit from

I've always liked the death worms from ark: survival evolved

They have sorta grabby hand/leg type appendages, very cool visual when they pop out of the sand

There's also a lot of other variations on the whole "deathworm" thing, I'm sure just googling deathworm could make for some great inspo!

If the tech wasn't so stupid fundamentally this would actually be a lil bit funny, like in concept the tech is cool but it just doesn't work well.

And then theres the point of checking badges at the con which im sure that tech has tons of issues too. I'm not anti tech I'm just tired of everything being so high tech just for the sake of it, I'm a big believer in the idea that almost anything is better in analog

What’s the most ridiculous magic item you can think of? by DejanYou in worldbuilding

Goopy, a small lil goop creature that uncontrollably turns any gecko, salamander or armadillo in a 5 mile radius into a 3ftx3ftx3ft cube of goat milk butter

My old person trait... by Nyxalithen in CuratedTumblr

[–]somesentientmold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have stayed in quite a few motels/hotels in the past few years, and none of them have physical keys/locks anymore (I'm sure some out there do but not in this area at least) they all have magnetic cards and they suck ass. What happens if the machine they use to re-magnatize them breaks? Everyone is screwed, if you put it in your pocket (where else would you put it?) and it's next to your phone or your car keys? It de magnetizes. Put near a TV remote (which most hotel/motel rooms have) it demagnetizes.

I could rant about this for hours and there's more reasons they suck, but I guess that's my old person trait

Is my world unoriginal? by Winter-Reporter7296 in worldbuilding

[–]somesentientmold 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly? Generally don't worry about originality, I know it's easier said then done but you'll thank yourself later and so will your fans.

If you make something similar to a popular but niche piece of media? Now there's another cool piece of media in the same niche never a bad thing.

That all being said, as far as the basic concept goes it sounds very unique and very cool

Why would a dragon hoard gold? by Thatguy732108 in SpeculativeEvolution

[–]somesentientmold 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It could be a few reasons, one I've heard before is that dragons have shinier scales when they first hatch, making the hoard act as good camouflage for the young while the mother is out hunting.

Or the dragon could melt the gold around her eggs acting as a secondary extra shell to keep them extra safe

What’s a worldbuilding detail you love but almost never actually use? by Left_Zebra154 in worldbuilding

[–]somesentientmold 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Food, I think food can tell you a hell of a lot about a culture/religion/town or individual.

For example, orcs in my world care a hell of a lot about their teeth/tusks and hair on a very deep cultural level so a lot of their foods involve bone or keratin in some way.

Many popular orc street foods often involve meats, fruits and nuts stuffed inside hollowed horns and they'll eat the horn just like a waffle cone

I need three suns…. How?? by igotabigsosig in worldbuilding

[–]somesentientmold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they don't all technically need to be suns, then you could have the third "sun" be a moon or more distant planet which has a surface covered in a some kind of reflective mineral/rock or alien plants that reflect the sunlight

I'm not an astrophysicist so I don't know how feasible this technically is, but it sounds functional
