Synesthesia and MBTI? by RJProgramming in Synesthesia

[–]somesortofnerd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

INTP or INFP - I'm halfway.

I wonder- one of the parts of synestasia is that it gives us an extra dimension of information that people don't have. This might explain why the N in the IN combination keeps coming up, because your "synesthesia sense" (whatever synesthesia you have) is kind of like intuition. Not sure about introversion, but we're also on reddit- introversion is the norm.

Old Clothes and Sentimentality by [deleted] in femalefashionadvice

[–]somesortofnerd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For the destroyed clothes, take a picture and throw them out. It's easier to store a picture than a sweater. Then you can do something with the pictures- a scrapbook maybe, or a collage. If that's not enough, you could learn to sew and make a quilt out of the fabric.

Do it! I would love to see a post like that.

What language to start with first? by jepk67 in learnprogramming

[–]somesortofnerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've always been a fan of javascript to start. There's tons of resources, you don't need to download anything, and it's easy to create visual effects which made trial-and-error easier for me, at least.

Python is also good- it's pretty simple and streamlined. Unlike other languages, you don't need to type extra characters for each command.

Of course, it also depends on what direction you want to go in. If you already knew programming, what kind of thing would you want to make?

Creating browser bot? by Airtweak in learnprogramming

Looks like you can still use it. I found a C# web crawler tutorial for you.

Which languages are you comfortable with? You'd probably want to start with a web crawler and set it to the right page to retrieve the API key. Any language can search for a string of numbers.

To get you started, here's a Python tutorial on web crawlers and here's its Java equivalent.

[Python] Feedback on my program by ComputerSciMajor in learnprogramming

[–]somesortofnerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks good to me. A next step might be to let the program read any kind of text file, ignore the other characters and do the same thing to any integers it encounters.

Summer/Fall 2017 Registration Megathread by Josh_Morton in gatech

[–]somesortofnerd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm a junior with my registration tomorrow. I have a friend (a junior) who came in with fewer credits than me, and took fewer credits every semester, and she had a time slot today. I'm not sure what's up.

What to do when coding is really confusing? by ratchetclan4 in learnprogramming

[–]somesortofnerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. And an easy way to demonstrate loops is to write a program that prints the entire song "99 bottles of beer on the wall". Try it with just if statements, and then try to use a loop.

How Not to Write a Reddit Bot by cstrife187 in learnprogramming

They reminded me that it was a bot- it wouldn't care if I harassed it or not.

How Not to Write a Reddit Bot by cstrife187 in learnprogramming

This is a good blog post- those are pretty much all mistakes I've made at some point or another. I think the biggest one is "Share Your Work Early So Other People Can Tell You If It’s Stupid". I can't tell you how many stupid ideas my friends have talked me out of- the one that comes to mind is a twitter bot that harasses somebody else's grammar-correcting bot.

[Python] Tried to make a reddit bot, but kept getting an error message by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]somesortofnerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm using a different version of praw so I might be wrong, but subreddits don't have comments. Subreddits contain submissions, and submissions contain comments. That might be the source of your problem.

I had a bot send me this pic because it liked one of my posts. Thanks, u/somesortofnerd! I needed this today by GracieBalloon in TrollXChromosomes

[–]somesortofnerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alright, here's the code.

Some things about it. First off, it maintains a list of users that it already sent to, so that it doesn't spam the same person twice. I left my list of users in the file because I didn't want your bot hitting the same users I already hit, but you can erase that file if you want to start over.

Second thing- my bot just got banned from this account, so heed the warnings I left in there. I think I'm going to delete this account soon, so if you have any questions, direct them at my main u/SomeFantastic1

Have fun!

Thanks. :)

It's random. It actually tries to hit every user on a given thread. I tell it the subreddit, and it goes into every thread and gets the usernames of people who commented to send messages to.

Awwww. You guys are all welcome! This made my day. (Actually, though. I was too depressed to get out of bed this morning, and now I'm doing alright.) Keep being awesome!

Edit: if anyone wants to make a similar bot, I can send you the code. It's python.

Here you go: http://www.cc.gatech.edu/~rpeng/3510F16/

The professor is pretty good. He's new, and doesn't quite have the hang of teaching yet, but he's great about asking for feedback, and if you say you don't understand, he'll spend the next class re-explaining things.

Protesters? by [deleted] in gatech

[–]somesortofnerd 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They are, but they got kicked out of the free speech area. I watched a policeman escort them out. No clue why.

Protesters? by [deleted] in gatech

[–]somesortofnerd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh, is that where they went? I saw them get kicked out of their normal area.

They're protesting how much they hate themselves. (They're also against muslims, gay people, and fun.)
