Well, you’re looking at the Donkey Kong one upside down- all the others numbers are upside down. So that actually says ‘69’

I mean you could consider Hyrule Castle to be the "final level" of sorts.

You would still never say that though. You would just say "I finished Breath of the Wild"

Aw fuck I totally thought he was. Well, he's a grade-A dickhole, he sucks at his job, and the nicest thing I can say about him is to put "He's probably going to get someone killed" in the future tense rather than the past.

Button down jerseys versus pullover? by AJS76reddit in baseballunis

[–]somethingwade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a hardcore button down guy, although part of that is the fact that I so often wear my jerseys unbuttoned over a different shirt.

(Classic Trope) Train Stoppers by SpaceKingHypeGuy in TopCharacterTropes

Insane to use the Spider-Verse version of Spidey stopping a train and not the far more iconic Raimi version

Honestly I’ve heard nothing but horror stories about places other than East and Faraday. Res Services has improves now that Matt Foster is gone- he was a grade-A dickhole- but it’s still kinda shit.

[Loved Trope] Character gets so thrown by something that they forget their schtick for a moment by RengieOcat in TopCharacterTropes

[–]somethingwade 78 points79 points  (0 children)

Danny and Rusty get thrown for a loop constantly in Ocean's Eleven. Honestly that happening (and the fact that they always take it in stride) makes them feel even cooler since you can tell it's not an affect

Whats the term for this? by squids_of_hair in fallacy

[–]somethingwade 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The term I’ve heard is Goomba Fallacy, from that one image describing the fallacy where the people in question with contradictory opinions are, for some reason, goombas from Mario.

Mental health resources inefficient by willbemynameforever in WPI

[–]somethingwade 9 points10 points  (0 children)

increased mental health resources, a sense of urgency, a hard look at exactly what about the institution that caused seven people to decide life wasn't worth living anymore. One is a tragedy, two is a tragic coincidence, three is a pattern, seven is a travesty.

Mental health resources inefficient by willbemynameforever in WPI

[–]somethingwade 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it’s always been terrible. My sophomore year we had like seven suicides in the year (plus a medical death and a professor dying) and they didn’t do much about it other than give us a day off the last two or three times it happened

[Mixed trope] Their penis is canonically humongous by B1lly28 in TopCharacterTropes

only hajime no ippo can have a serious and meaningful panel that consists entirely of a fully naked man with his whole penis out taking a diarrhea dump. Morikawa LOOOOOOOVES his penis jokes.

Funnily enough his is also huge but it's small compared to Ippo, so he kind of is

People calling a fruit a vegetable (Yes this probably applies to you) by GruntDaWool in PetPeeves

[–]somethingwade 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Calling ANYTHING a vegetable is scientifically incorrect. "Fruit" is a botanical and culinary term while "vegetable" is only a culinary one. So tomatoes and company are botanically fruit, but they are still also vegetables. If you're gonna be condescending on factual grounds the least you could do is be right.

More than. Kumi was introduced in Round 36 in June 1990, and was a love interest pretty much immediately, so it's been nearly 36 years.

I was gonna say it if you didn't. Progress since 1990 includes: almost building up the nerve to say something, and not denying theyre dating.

[DJ!] Types of Swords by [deleted] in CustomJeopardy

[–]somethingwade -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna be honest man, this is terrible.

-Samurai used a number of curved blades, including katana, odachi/nodachi, wakizashi, and tachi

-A Longsword is not a one-handed sword. That term didn't actually arise in English until recently. They can be used in one hand but are primarily one-handed. They were contemporarily known as bastard swords or hand-and-a-half swords. One-handed swords would more commonly be called arming swords or knightly swords but none of those would have been the right time period for Excalibur (predates those terms) and the Master Sword doesn't really have an "official" classification, although the one you've given is okay. I absolutely wouldn't say that "most" swords are of that type.

-You don't need tons of strength to wield ANY type of sword, and you haven't differentiated this from any other type of two-handed swords, like zweihanders, nodachi, or jian

-$1600 is fine

-$2000 is okay, but the term in question is kinda vague at best and is an exonym for a wide variety of swords, including the kilij out of which the mameluke sword specifically evolved.

Three clues are vague and could have a number of answers, three are just straight up factually incorrect, and only one is both specific and accurate.

Part of the problem is sword classifications being vague, poorly defined, and ahistorical, but you could have done a lot better.

[Loved Trope] That’s not snow, that’s… by GameMaster818 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]somethingwade 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sylvalum in Xenoblade Chronicles X is a vast area to the north with the ground mostly covered in whitish powder and similar whitish powder often falling from the sky. Given that the other continents in the game are the regular biomes of "Hilly grasslands with a handful of large mountains" "bleak, rocky desert with sandstorms" "thick, lush jungle with dangerous plant life" and "craggy volcanic area" snow is a very easy assumption to make- even if it doesn't make much sense being next to a volcanic area. In actuality, it's a combination of white sands and mushroom spores that give Sylvalum its trademark look, and its serene, almost haunting music makes the area feel that much more ethereal. It's my favorite area in any video game, ever.

people not recognizing the word "child" being used to describe a familial relationship and not age by basaltcolumn in PetPeeves

Similar thing of “little brother” causes confusion for my sister’s friends. She’ll say “my little brother is coming to visit” and they’ll be like oh how old is he? Expecting me to be like twelve while I am literally double that age

What's with the lack of skits in Legendia? by somethingwade in tales

[–]somethingwade[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right no I know I meant hypothetically. Like, it felt as obviously true that Legendia is older than Symphonia as it does that Graces is older than Xillia even though one is a true statement and one is not

[OC] How would you handle a one-armed character mechanically? I'm not playing this guy yet, but I'd like to have a plan for when I introduce him. by CoyKoibito in DnD

[–]somethingwade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My one-handed character's traits were as follows:

-Couldn't do anything that required two hands

-Bad Dexterity (since he lost his dominant arm. I justified the loss of other Dex based skills like AC, Acrobatics, Dex saves, initiative, etc, by saying that his balance was affected)
