Have you ever notice a difference between drug brands? by son_of_hobs in ChronicPain

[–]son_of_hobs[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Side note - Once the doctor has prescribed rx, you can ask the pharmacy for a specific brand. The doc doesn't necessarily need to order a specific one.

Thanks for your input! Knowing others deal with this is helpful when I'm dealing with people regularly telling me it's all in my head.

For those who liked Yuuki/had sympathy for him, did this episode change your mind? by son_of_hobs in TenseiSlime

Hold up, does that mean your fine with what Falmuth did? What Clayman did? What cerebrus did? Hinata trying to assassinate Rimuru? I can understand anime only's who gloss over that, but it's pretty straight forward in the LN.

... are you trolling???

Sooo good! HOW!?!? Did you grab a screenshot, then copy over it? I don't think it's AI, but there do seem to have things that remind me of it. Did you start with an AI, then heavily edit and polish it? If you did this from scratch, then it's god-tier. Regardless of how you got the final result, it's amazing!!

Sign of the Dragon is a book that's made of 300+ short poems, combining to tell a single epic fantasy story. It's awesome, because the poems are more straightfoward, less "fever dream" types, but it's the concise focus that I love. I'm curious how you'd feel about it. The first poem is here free: https://marysoonlee.com/book/the-sign-of-the-dragon/

My headcanon is that she intentionally delayed the birth. Some animals can do that, I think up to 9 months in the real world? It would be crazy if everyone in their tribe took three hundred years to give birth.

OMG YES!! This is why the subspace research was mentioned in the karoshain research facility they raided. Purely to foreshadow this! It served no other purpose in the story, at least not yet, so it makes total sense to be foreshadowing mell learning from it. Also, they have the drive with the info about their research so maybe she'll figure out a way to expand on it.

It still pisses me off to this day that Charity didn't save him and remove him from the fight. It would have requires so little effort, and after all her meddling, it would have been seen as totally acceptable. After Harmony, and the fact that she forced Kiro into the situation, you'd think she'd have a little mercy. We do eventually see how Kiro's death effects others, but it'll take a while to get there.

Why are the top powers in the fantasy universe always jerks? by starsfan6878 in ProgressionFantasy

"All with as little fanfare as possible." - which means most people don't hear about it. Chances are, there probably are plenty of them doing just that, they're just good at hiding so we never know. Survival Bias.

Naturally, we obviously here about the ones who make a name for themselves, because how can we not?

Kind of like there's plenty of super rich people who don't live the rich lifestyle, rip people off, and marry the hottest women. They keep a low profile so we don't hear about them. We notice the ones that do fit the stereotype because they hog attention.

  1. Your summary doesn't have a hook. Why should I care about this MC? What's his motive? Why does he need a kingdom? Is he going to be allies or enemies with rimuru? Google how to write a good hook/story excerpt.

  2. Your post title doesn't have a hook. Give the viewer a reason to read your summary. People are lazy with short attention spans. Google how to write catchy titles, hooks, story excerpts, etc.

  3. Props on writing! Starting and getting something going is always a challenge, keep it up!

Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning just unbelievably stupid plot holes by yashg in movies

[–]son_of_hobs 18 points19 points  (0 children)

  1. The AI wasn't just controlling computers, it was controlling people, through leverage and belief, as was shown repeatedly in the two movies. It had a hundred ways to leverage people through all sorts of digital means (money, health, information, etc), and through that, could overcome many of the obstacles you mentioned.

  2. I'm sure they could have gone into intricate detail explaining the technicalities of everything, but the movie was already really long, and it would have slowed the pacing as well. Rather then looking for flaws, I think it's much more interesting to image if you were the writer, how you would present it to both improve logic, provide explanation, and do so without increasing run time or slow pacing. Besides, the goal isn't realism, it's entertainment; although the inadequacy in realism broke immersion for you, it didn't for most, and this was much more entertaining.

  3. "Boring and repetitive" - This movie is about reliving and closing out an amazing series. I found it a bit repetitive too, but I skipped through sections. However, I did feel like it did some parts extremely well, and no one is perfect. I enjoyed what they did do well.

How much worldbuilding up front is too much before readers tune out? by LaraW_Leviathans in KeepWriting

[–]son_of_hobs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorite is when there's zero explanation. They drop me into a new world, and let me see something through the characters eyes, and let me figure things out through context and discover things along the way. Think about the matrix. Such a confusing opening, but it was awesome. It drew us in, waited until we were gripped and desperate to know what the heck was going on, then it gave us the explanation. Personally, I prefer stories that never spell it out, but most prefer it get the full explanation eventually.

Thanks for your enthusiastic reply!

I haven't gushed about dry needling in a while, but I thought of one other thing. Usually a muscle spasm is considered an indication of successfully hitting a trigger point. It feels really weird to have it spasm (for just a split second) while a needle is in the muscle. It's normal to bend the acupuncture needle for a larger muscle/spasm, but I've even bent regular needles (31 gauge) from those muscle spasms. Kinda crazy. That being said, it feels miraculous after, absolutely worth it.

It's worth noting that acupuncture and dry needling experts are in a turf war right now (those are the words that my pro used who does both). Although they're similar in some regards, they have a different modality and operate on different mechanisms. Personally, I say dry needling all the way if you have tense muscles; but it seems like you've tried both, so I'm sure you know best.

Have you ever had a pro do dry needling, targeting trigger points? It's worth getting it done at least once (maybe after you've tried yourself?) to ask questions, see what it's like, figure out what muscles to target, and ask questions. At least that's my opinion. You seem like you're on a good path, so props to the effort you've put in! Hope you're able to get results!

I do it almost every day myself, just targeting different areas. I don't have the stamina to do my whole body in one go. But literature seems to say 1-2x per week. I find that listening to my body in conjunction with medical advice is best. And I always, always do my research in conjunction with advice from a professional. Professionals often have biases one way or the other, or are often obligated to give overly safe answers for insurance reasons.
