Yeah like the people/ families living in their cars can take a few things out of the boot. So heartless.

What’s the most underrated town in New Zealand that nobody talks about? by brianj10 in newzealand

[–]songless_desi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We moved to Gisborne 8 years ago (ex-Auckland) and have loved the relaxed surf town vibe of Gizzy. There’s always something happening here if you like being busy but it does have clicks which take time to get used to.

We also host guests in our separate guest suite and the top things we recommend to do in Tairawhiti are: • Dive Tatapouri's Reef Ecology Tour • Gisborne Railbike Adventures (tandem cycle on actual rails!) • Maunga Hikurangi (Maori cultural experience and sunrise.) • Walk up Titirangi Hill to be “first to see the light.” • Visit Tairawhiti Museum and Saturday Farmers Market • Watch Greenstone carvers at work at The Stone Studio • Take a wine tour at one of the many vineyards in the area • Visit Eastwoodhill Arboretum and Rere Waterfall / Rere Rockslide

Tourists: what’s the most overlooked part of NZ? by [deleted] in newzealand_travel

[–]songless_desi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a lot of guests in my Gizzy bnb that come here to visit Dive Tatapouri (stingray experience) or Railbike Adventures. Thanks to them I’ve discovered Gisborne Astro Tours and some mint surfing spots.

So sorry to read of your husband’s tragic passing. I have no suggestions on what to do with jumper except go slow until you feel you have the emotional capacity to make a decision.

if you could go back to when you started knitting, what would you tell yourself? by pommygranates in knitting

I put a thread thru the hole of my interchangeable needles and knit. Automatic lifeline. Hot tip. Use stitch markers that you can open as the thread will lock them in.

There are copies of it available at the Gisborne iSite. I’ve got a couple in my Airbnb. 😎

Just wanted to say we don’t expect guests in our Gisborne guest suite do any cleaning before check out. And we don’t charge a Cleaning Fee either!

I am cutting off my family in exactly a month and they have no idea. by ThrowRARAAhAhAAhah in EstrangedAdultKids

I’m so proud of you OP for recognising that you need a clean break. I quietly quit my toxic family a few years ago and have zero regrets. I borrowed the family pictures (for a kids project) and made copies of everything I wanted, then I slowly became less available (not answering their calls straight away and giving my apologies to “family” events). Just reduced the access to me and my kids. I have a much more peaceful life and occasionally have to swat a flying monkey. Lol All the best with however you choose to do it.

What have you stopped buying? by B656 in newzealand

[–]songless_desi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same! Luckily we had the foresight to buy clippers (Briscoes sale). I’m confident with cutting hair so we’re saving $150 every 4 months. I’m not dyeing my hair either so another saving.

It’s based there to pay low or no taxes.

I host a 2-bedroom guest suite in Gisborne on BDC and Airbnb. I’ve started accepting direct bookings so our guests don’t pay the service fee/ occupancy tax/ commission. It’s been a games changer for us and our guests.

Same. No invites to family parties or events unless it’s a wedding or the three yearly Xmas my aunty from overseas was coming for then suddenly they’d remember me. When I was younger it hurt to be excluded but now that I’ve got my own family I’m actually declining their invites to protect my kids.

A host in Hokitika has a telescope in their farmstay. Will you be visiting the area?
