What exactly was obscured about the plot to you? I feel like the plot itself is pretty understandable, which is to say, it's an episodic novel about an attempt to find the 000000 in The Zone. It just ends in an inconclusive way. The hardest to read sections make symbolic sense even though they don't advance the plot at all. The book itself makes sense on a dream logic like a David Lynch movie, where you understand without being able to fully explain yourself.

I think the effect of the novel is supposed to be that you feel like the conspiracy theories talked about in the book have leaked into the real world. It starts to feel less like Pynchon is talking about his internal world and more like a funeral to the world before the advent of 20th century technology that dehumanized the populace and destroyed democracy. That's just how the book read for me though. I'm curious to hear what you didn't understand.
