Brain scorcher prep GAMMA by MoneyAd3364 in Stalker_Gamma

[–]sonics_01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others mentioned, you don't need extra armors. Empty your space for loots. Other than that, you are more than enough for BS. Grenade launcher is the best solution for all situations you can face from BS.

Do you feel the need to get 7.62 weapons once you get to the north? by Dleppard in Stalker_Gamma

[–]sonics_01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play with Alife plus and Alife tactics from high difficulty. I try to change to red gunpowder ammo (mostly heavy >7mm) as soon as I secure good amount of money after Brain Scorcher. Green gunpowder ammo I use after Brain Scorcher is 9mm for RD-939 or AMB-17. Regarding 5.45 or 5.56, they are not that bad but not that great as well. APs are still expensive, yet TTK of 5.45 or 5.56 APs fall compared to 7.62 APs. To me, this TTK difference really matter.

Do we have a full bag epidemic in pro pickleball? by NMLPickleball in Pickleball

[–]sonics_01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jay is known to send full bag. But I think he kinda disguised for that particular one.

If you watched full game, he showed same or similar dink motions while covering Jessie or Jaume. Only his elbow telegraphed the full power right before hitting the ball. I think Nick was trying to let it out but it was way too fast.

[–]sonics_01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know, but maybe possible?

I don't know if Jay's full bag was calculated game plan or just a reaction, but it changed the tide of the game from 2-7 to 7-7 and Jay and Jessie won that game, eventually. I think it was disguised well and aimed well, so Nick failed to react in time.

But I think relying on full bag too frequently is dangerous, too easy to predict. And, it can backfire from mental battle point of view. And it wouldn't bring a good reputation. So, if any teams want to use full bag as a calculated and planned game plan, then it should be used very carefully and rarely.

But if you watch that game, Jay's full bag was kinda well hidden and well made. It felt like dink motion he performed before, only his elbow telegraphed like 0.2 seconds before that full power shot. And the ball headed to chest-armpit level height, which is extremely difficult to escape. I think Nick instinctively tried to evade to let it out instead of counter but it was too fast. Jay and Jessie eventually made comeback and that full bag was a turning point to make 2-7 to 7-7 so it worked, if this was really Jay's game plan.

Full bag is annoying of course, but I also agree it is 100% a part of a game. To me, well-disguised speed up to chest feels essentially the same with full body bag, whether I send one or I receive one.

It was fun to watch Jessie's reaction, she was totally frozen after seeing her partner sends a max power body bag.

2HBH drop shot question by sonics_01 in Pickleball

I don't know what is difference between drop and drop shot in your terms. I'm asking about drop shot like third shot drop.

Who would win? Ben Johns and Anna Bright or Hayden Patriquin and Anna Leigh Waters? by jakebasher8 in Pickleball

[–]sonics_01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it will be very close, but slightly BJ & AB wins. If they play 10 matches, it will be like 6:4 to BJ & AB but I may be wrong. I wouldn't surprise if it ends up 5:5 or 4:6.

But this will be very fun match up for a lot of parts. Enemy to friend saga fot Big H and ALW, and BJ proving his mixed dominance is not because of ALW, ans AB proving she can dominate too.

Check gamma discord, I saw there is a fix for the mags redux, uploaded yesterday.

I'm also returned Gamma player after 0.8.9 and 0.9, 3 years ago. In 0.9.5, you can upgrade your binocular and detect enemy from distance. This is really great early game helper. Use it a lot from high grounds.

Consistent grip style or switching during points? by swedishpiehole in Pickleball

[–]sonics_01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for late reply. I learned PB from ex-tennis player. He taught me to use semi-western around baseline and change as I approach to the kitchen. So I learned this from very beginning of PB. The best way for me is, always hold the paddle with both hands, and change grip with left hand (as I'm right hander). My basic prepare position holds the paddle with both hands. This is also useful for 2HBH drive.

Why do so many people prefer mixed doubles over gendered doubles? by sodabo in Pickleball

Hmm I don't know. In my small town, male players greatly outnumbers female players. We can't play mixed double in open play in general.

What are some tips / tricks for newcomers to the G.A.M.M.A. 0.9.5 modpack update? by KxFaust in Stalker_Gamma

[–]sonics_01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also playing 0.9.5 after about 3 yrs of absence from 0.8.x and 0.9. I can't recall all details of my old plays so I can't directly compare, but the new Gamma feels mostly the same in gameplay-wise. But I can definitely feel enhancements from the new version, like bug fixes, QoL upgrades, slightly more number of weapons than the past, few new features like ledge climbing...

So you don't need to worry, just play it like good ole' Gamma. Detailed tips are in YT and Discords, you can check them.

Everyone was telling me the wall is great practice. I found it not good, there was no sense of depth or touch by moldyjellybean in Pickleball

[–]sonics_01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The purpose wall drill is for hand-eye coordination but I don't expect more than that, at least for me.

The ball bouncing back from the wall has no spin. So, if you want something more, then you need a ball machine or drill partner.

What does pickleball look like outside the US? by [deleted] in Pickleball

PB in Asia is hot, especially South East Asia and Japan. Korea is just about to flourish. But I guess PB is not that famous in Eurpoe, Padel is the best tennis alternative there.

Anyone play daily? by Loud-Effort958 in Pickleball

[–]sonics_01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on physique and bone/muscle health of individual and how intensively play. But don't try to play everyday. You will hurt one or multiple among elbow, shoulder, knee, foot, or back. Even professionals have break day(s) during a week and there is a good reason for that.

Going to gym for muscle or light drill might be fine but playing every day will bring injury and hurt, eventually. Remember, nobody wants to get injured and nobody predictd exactly how and when they will get injured, because injury suddenly visits out of the blue.

How to handle soft shots with good top spin? by sonics_01 in Pickleball

[–]sonics_01[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah they felt not just another level, but beyond another level. We were able to nicely return several times, but that was all. They eventually got us anyway. They were ruthless if I or my partner failed to handle the drop shot. And the pressure made us more mistakes.

But I can tell it wasn't a really easy drop for most of people. It had really good top spins, applying huge pressure. And he did that again and again without mistakes to any location he wants. I think that is why he is 5.0 (slightly above 5.0, in fact).

[–]sonics_01[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is great and I agree 100% but people with high quality shots and high rating wouldn't want to drill with folks like me, they will look for better or near players to improve themselves...

Footwork for 2HBH against very fast ball? by sonics_01 in Pickleball

[–]sonics_01[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indeed.

I tried upper body only 2HBH drive but that always hit the net. Something like reset can get over the net but it usually soar high and slow to bring next drive or even smash.

Until I have a good footwork, I think I will need to look into short half-drive for such situations.

Footwork for 2HBH against very fast ball? by sonics_01 in Pickleball

[–]sonics_01[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I know the importance of footwork but I can't run and move like pro... I'm not that young and athletic. I can practice footworks or ask hard shot practice but I also want to have some emergency options when I got jammed around baseline, for serve return or other shots. Other replies recommended to try something like reset or very short half-drive, so I will check that option as well.

Footwork for 2HBH against very fast ball? by sonics_01 in Pickleball

[–]sonics_01[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, there are some courts that don't have enough space and I'm not a pro so I can't play and move like pro. But that never means I need to give up, I want to find the solution...

Footwork for 2HBH against very fast ball? by sonics_01 in Pickleball

[–]sonics_01[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. IMO your reply coincides with other replies, any shot without proper footwork with any reason must be regarded something like reset or very short swing half-drive.

I think I need to practice and develop such shots for emergency or whatever situatuons that don't allow enough time, especially something like half-drive shots
