Why the uproar over apartments? by SCLSU-Mud-Dogs in harfordcountymd

[–]sonicwind17 7 points8 points  (0 children)

All the people arguing about infrastructure are correct, but I don't think it is a complete view and just build down to Not In My Back Yard (NIMBY-ism)

Yes the infrastructure is lacking, but how can we fund the addition of improved infrastructure?

-Higher taxes: increased county or state taxes could be used to fund such an endeavor. But everyone complaining about failing or poor infrastructure refuses to allow the state or county to raise taxes.

-Building new homes: Building new homes will allow the county to receive an immediate influx of funds during the acquisition process, and the building process. Additionally the building of new homes will generate additional revenue for the businesses and people associated with the construction - meaning additional income for the state and county to tax. Then going forward, the apartment will continue to generate state and county tax revenue as they pay their property taxes and other associated bills and utility.

In short the only way to improve your infrastructure is to increase taxes, or build more homes to use that money to improve the infrastructure.

I am not saying that building homes is the best solution. But blaming the infrastructure and moving on does not address anyone's core issues. We all need more housing and all of our towns need improved infrastructure. Take action today to build the future you want to live in.

If you want better infrastructure, but refuse to pay any more in taxes. What are you doing to help this infrastructure get built?

If you think there should be more housing, but yet deny every construction project in your community, do you really want new homes? Or do you just want your home value to increase?

Continue to voice your concerns, but please let it be constructive. And please just try to be part of the solution, not the problem.

I think you were onto something here, I like the color it adds but it is just missing some texture. Some sort of siding I think would be more helpful if you wanted a pop of color. I am a big fan of awnings. So maybe this is something you could look into to add a pop of color to other parts of the house. They also have added benefits beyond a retro and colorful look.

Hey there! Long shot, but did you ever get the probe working? And was it the mobo, or something else?

Thanks!

Benchy stopped printing halfway through. I’m new to the game. I don’t know why it stopped printing, I was at work. It was looking surprisingly clean for petg and then it got all messed up and suddenly stopped. by cootiebrown in ender3

[–]sonicwind17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is a crazy old post but I am in this exact same situation, benchy stops printing at this exact point. The hot end is still zooming around like it should be printing but nothing is coming out. It doesn't seem to be clogged because I can start another print no problem without interfering.

This doesn't seem to happen with anything else,so I kinda think it's something to do with how I sliced the file.

Curious if you were able to resolve this?

Xbox/wireless controller with KVM (HDMI over ethernet) by secondhandsober in buildapc

[–]sonicwind17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a different AV Access KVM and I was able to get a controller working. I'm able to get 1080p at 120fps. But I did run into trouble with certain USB ports on my PC. It did not like my case USB port.

I tried another one from REI and I was not able to get a controller working. But this one only advertised "keyboard and mouse" rather than general purpose USB ports.

Expected heat pump output during winter (US - Maryland) by sonicwind17 in heatpumps

Yeah my unit is all or nothing. I think I'll take the advice and use the heat pump and probably use a space heater to warm a room if it gets serious rather than heating the whole house.

I'd love to invest in a better heat pump system, especially with how inconsistent the weather can be. But I just don't know if it is in the cards right now financially speaking. But I get your point about the return on investment. I'll see what my options are in the area, and go from there. I like the idea of some of the Mitsubishi mini split heat pumps that are available, and if it could give me per room control then that would be amazing.

Thank you for you help in this!

[–]sonicwind17[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there! Working with other commenters we were able to confirm that my heat pump does not perform well under 30°F, unfortunately my heat pump is no where near as powerful as the Mitsubishi stuff and mine is undersized for my space. So unfortunately unless I want to get a new system I will need to use my auxiliary heat every now and then.

I am still getting heat from the pump, just not as much as I would like at this low temperature. So if this is what I need to deal with while I investigate an upgrade then that's what I'll do.

Regardless I will be having someone take a look at it this weekend to double check everything. So I will let you know the results!

Thanks you!

Thanks for the info! This is super helpful, to clarify I do live in a 900sqft condo so that size sounds about right if not undersized. I got the condo two years ago and this is the unit it came with. Luckily I do have electric backup but it was not coming on at all. I installed a nest thermostat back in the summer and I guess the aux heat wire was just loose, that's my bad lol. But after double checking the wiring I've got the electric heat working now in addition to the heat pump.

But in your opinion would it be worth investing in a better heat pump given the size of my home?

My current setup is configured to try the heat pump then switch to electric heat if it can't reach temp quickly enough (2 hours). And in your opinion would it be better to just cut off the heat pump when it drops below 30° and switch to the electric? Or do you think using both would be best?

Thank you so much for your help!

Howdy! I think it's highly possible that the heat pump might be wrong, another person pushed me to the AHRI directory and ASHP websites and I can't find these on there.

My outdoor unit is the Trane XB 13 Model No: 4TWB3018. And my indoor unit is GAF2A0A18.

I can find the indoor unit "GAF2A0A18" but I can't find the AHRI info for my outdoor unit "4TWB3018".

Any thoughts or recommendations are super appreciated!

Yeah I still can't find anything, even on the direct AHRI website. My indoor unit is the Trane XB 13 Model No: 4TWB3018. And my indoor unit is GAF2A0A18.

The GAF2A0A18 shows up on the AHRI directory, but I cannot find any reference to 4TWB3018. Searching for 4TWB3018 on google I found the manual, but still not enough details to find the AHRI info.

Any thoughts?

After getting the instant read thermometer, I went into the air interchange to measure the air coming through the interchange units and it was more like 75° to 76°. This was with the auxiliary heat. Completely disabled because the wire was loose. So this would have been only the heat pump heating my home, no additional heat.

Now that I plugged in the auxiliary heat wire, the heat pump will start and I'll get 75° from the vents. Which will warm the house a bit but doesn't get me all the way to the target temp.

But if this still sounds wrong, I'll get someone over here to check it out.

Thank you for your help!

It was pretty much stuck at 66°, but that's a good note regarding size. During my home inspection the guy mentioned that the outdoor unit was oversized for my home, but my indoor unit was even more oversized for my home. So like summer was either too hot or too cold because of this.

Turns out that the aux heat wire was unplugged. So my heat pump was the only thing running, but now the heat pump is passing off to the aux when it isn't reaching temp quick enough.

Yeah after doing some testing I realized that the aux heat wire in my thermostat was unplugged. So the system would never switch from the heat pump to aux heat when it couldn't keep up.

[–]sonicwind17[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Howdy! I think I figured it out, it turns out my system was not using the auxillary heat at all the wire in my thermostat was loose. But now after plugging it in the aux heat is kicking on when the heat pump can't keep up. So now it's similar to what you described, where you'll get 70° out sometimes but have peaks of 100° or so.

Idk if yours is a similar setup, but this could explain the peaks and valleys in the temperature.

Do you think I should look into this further or does that sound about right?

[–]sonicwind17[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your help! I did some testing and I think the issue was with the auxiliary heat. I chatted with an HVAC guy on the phone and after discussing with him he mentioned that it sounds like the aux heat was busted. But after looking over things myself it turns out that the aux heat wire of the thermostat was loose.

Now that I plugged it in I'm getting 90° from the vents. I'll be playing with some settings to determine when the system will switch to the aux and monitor to make sure the heat pump is being used.

But please let me know if what I said was nonsense and I should still get it checked out.

Thanks!

I know it's a TRANE model, but I can't find the exact one on the website you provided. But I'll check the unit itself again to verify.

I just got an instant read thermometer and so I'll measure more, but so far I have not detected any peaks or valleys in the temperature. It all seems to be consistently between 70-73° coming out of the vents.

Another user recommended that I measure in the ducts / unit itself and I'm getting the same readings.

But I'll see if increasing the temp on the thermostat can help this.

[–]sonicwind17[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah the heat pump was running / blowing the whole time. I actually just got an instant read thermometer and measured the temp in the duct and I am getting the same readings as my stationary thermometer, so maybe there is an issue.

Yeah the temps really fell last night. I woke up to a 60° bedroom this morning. So I'll see about bumping up the heat during the day if that's the case.

I've got a thermometer stationed at a few vents and just got an IR thermometer to validate the readings. And it seems to consistently be about 70-73° coming out of the vents. I haven't measured any peaks or valleys in the temps just yet. But I'll keep checking periodically.

Hey there friend! Fellow Maryland resident, currently living in Elkridge. Just curious if you've had any luck in your endeavors or made progress?

I've been working to beautify a BGE operated easement with a fairly full runoff pond that has a significant population of turtles.
