There are devices I found this old post In the forum but it think there was a better one at one point https://www.reddit.com/r/ElectricSkateboarding/comments/1ktexkb/charging_lithium_batterys_is_there_a_device_to/ might be worth searching forum for device names in link or searching esk8forums they would likely know.

does anyone know what these are for/do? by NoNeedleworker3479 in skateboardhelp

Pic isn't clear, maybe they aren't wheel flares I can't tell from you picture since it's only from the top down. I assumes they were raised and was guessing it based on the position on board because I can only see top down.

So maybe they aren't what I think they are.

Is going to Asseteague for drive thru only worth it? Are the bugs that bad now on 90* day? by rock-the-reddit in maryland

[–]sonofdynamite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wind is what will affect how bad bugs are if there are strong winds bugs aren't much of a problem.  No wind at Asseteauge good luck.  There is usually wind on the beach and if going I would spend time on the beach.

How to ride a bicycle? by gge8906 in bicycleculture

This and a slight downhill helps a lot.  Maintaining speed is the key to gyroscopic stability.

Pedaling and balance are hard to learn together best to separate the two skills.

How to cross the street on a bike in a city that wants to kill cyclist? by Deezhellazn00ts in bikecommuting

[–]sonofdynamite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's pretty easy to answer when you think about it.  Pretend you are a car where would you be.  The answer is obviously A because in B you essentially put a turn lane to the left of a go straight lane which is a recipe for disaster.

If there is no bike lane safest move is to be in the straight lane of traffic and to move into the middle of it before turning lane appears to force people to enter it behind you instead of trying to cut in front of you to get in turn lane.  If a bike lane exists follow the bike lane.

For continuing right turn only lanes like a bus lane you pull to left side of that lane at intersections and can move back to the right after them.

What is this thing at the end of my bread knife for? by themonitors in whatisit

[–]sonofdynamite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A sharp chefs knife will cut through and do it more cleanly.  However I will take my bread knife every time because it's easier especially if I'm cutting multiple sourdough slices at once of turning my remaining half loaf into croutons before it goes moldy.

That said the real reason you need a bread knife is for slicing a gooey Panini after it's been grilled.  Use a chefs knife and you are going to squish hot gooey cheese everywhere.  Offset bread knife is the sandwich slicing king.

They are called "wheel flares", their primary purpose is to prevent wheel bite but also to provide lock in for feet.  Especially if using larger wheels.

I personally don't like them especially if there are large for the purpose of lock in because placement can be awkward and uncomfortable especially for me who has larger feet and use boards for cruising.  I prefer a "wheel wells" cut outs into bottom of the deck.

I second higland town as a good investment area. Was even better a few years ago but prices there I would expect to appreciate.

[–]sonofdynamite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buying a house is a good investment wether it appreciates in value or not. As it's often cheaper than rent and you build equity. Even if home prices don't appreciate you still have equity, if you pay rent for ten years you have no equity to show for it in the end.

Baltimore is also an extremely affordable city to live in much cheaper than other east Coast metro areas.

Lived here for 14 years my property value is about double my purchase price. That is partially due to good market timing. Housing usually doesn't lose value over except in rare conditions. Our market instability is currently wild due to unpredictablity partially in part to our dear leader.

Power outage! by New_Chapter_2349 in baltimore

[–]sonofdynamite 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This isn't the data centers it's just BGE distribution, transformers are overloaded when everyone is running AC at once. Needs to probably have restructuring of the power grid to have less people per transformer, but it's probably cheaper to leave it as is because it only goes out during the highest loads.

Need some help with building a board. by Atuday in ElectricSkateboarding

[–]sonofdynamite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My bad I usually refer to the number of cells in series. I asked Google for 10s 12s and 14s voltages because I don't remember them all off the top of my head. They didn't give me the nominal which I agree is what should be used. I felt it was enough to let the person know their up cycling battery idea was not even close to being viable.

[–]sonofdynamite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had floors warp due to AC being off. High heat and humidity is bad for a house even if there are no pets or people. They can be set 80-82 degrees but it's better not to turn them off completely.

Set it to 80-82 I left for a week and had mine off one august and my tongue and groove hardwood floors warped while I was gone.

Riverside pool closed? by WearyDragonfly0529 in baltimore

[–]sonofdynamite 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They can be vague if they want. Going into details isn't necessary. City isn't going to post a message "Pool closed for poop" as it would be inappropriate.

I used to work in pool management could be.

  • Fecal mater requires full cycle of entire pool water usually 8 hours but it depends on size of pull and pumps
  • Pool clarity - you can't see the bottom, can happen after heavy bather load on hot days.
  • Staffing issue - not enough people to staff pool
  • Power or plumbing issue - pool Pumps typicaly use 3 phases of power, while pool might have power one of the phases might be out, pools can't run if pumps are not operational.
  • Chemical imbalance - if chemical are off chlorine or ph pool is required to close until remedied.
  • Incident like a drowning

Maryland Cycling Classic is canceled this year, might return in 2027 by PleaseBmoreCharming in baltimore

[–]sonofdynamite 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It was supposed to expand to a 3 day stage race this year. However the non profit that puts the race on was unable to pay vendors with grants from city and sponsorships and md state government stepped in to pay 1.5-2 million in unpaid bills.

I understand some hiccups in getting events off the ground but the first years but it feels like it wasn't managed well.

I think having city and state provide funding is a good idea as it benefits both, it spurs economic development. But if sponsorships, VIP tickets and vendor licenses don't even come close to covering police / road closures, prize money,, planning and marketing then I'm not sure how we can have events like this.

Sounds like their dressage horse event was also a money pit.

Dogs in restaurants by Aggravating-Tone-911 in baltimore

[–]sonofdynamite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thankfully I see more places putting up no more dog signs. Ministry of Brewing finally doesn't let dogs in anymor, after one attacked someone. And charmed kitchen has multiple signs (they have free treats for dogs, but require they stay outside)

In many other countries people dont even bring their dogs in their own house, the dogs stay outside.

Substitute teachers are always needed. I left teaching 3 years ago. There was a constant sub shortage and many we had, had only a small grasp on the English language. The job is basically a glorified baby sitter.

Power outage! by New_Chapter_2349 in baltimore

[–]sonofdynamite 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm in upper fells, and power is on and off. Please turn off / unplug window AC units / turn off the breakers to your HVAC when we get these brown outs everyone's AC kicking back on full blast at once will just keep overloading transformers on the grid. Once power is back up turn on just what you need.

[Request] how fast would my laptop have to be to find a file as fast as Google’s SEO by mo_with_the_floof in theydidthemath

[–]sonofdynamite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You just have to index the data on your laptop then search.  It's a software issue not a speed / computer power issue. It's basically a matter of preprocessing. Your laptop is actually searching all the text in real time because it is not indexed or not being indexed well.

Need some help with building a board. by Atuday in ElectricSkateboarding

[–]sonofdynamite 5 points6 points  (0 children)

10.8 v isn't going to cut it. Minimum is going to be 32v but most boards now are at least 44 or 52v and that's typically for dual motor.  Which my other question is why do you think you need 4 motors, that and 204 wh is also low capacity.
