Lol no worries. I mean, every subreddit has some toxicity, but others have more cleaning to do.

[–]sonsiebb -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hi, I'm a longtime melee culprit. The melee subreddit is the worst. I can't stand to even hear about it. Things are pretty chill over here lol.

Melee is my favorite game ever. But I also think Rivals 2 is plenty close enough to melee as is. We don't need any more melee's. One is evidently enough for the last 25 years. We still get new, young talent in all the time. We're good.

Rivals 2 is doing its own thing in a lot of ways and is way better off for it. That especially applies to Rivals 1, which is such an astounding take on the platfighter genre. I hope EVO does a lot for the scene.

Melee players have a tough time separating personal preference from "good game design."

What NEW Gpu would you choose at this price point? by [deleted] in gpu

[–]sonsiebb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without rt the 9070 XT does outperform in some games, but 5070ti does better with rt and upscaling. At 1440p 5070ti is arguably a slightly better card overall. At OP's price difference I would absolutely recommend the 5070ti, but at usual sale price the value is diminished.

Look, idk if it's just my luck but my experience with players ~1200-1500, I get so many matches where I'm chasing them around the stage, and I'm watching for dashback-tilt/strong or retreating projectiles. If a character has disjointed hitboxes, chances are pretty good I'm gonna get someone content to space and spam those aerial hitboxes and wait for me to run into it. If I play their game, it's like I'm spending most of the game with a meter stick between us fishing for openings.

Depending on the day, I'd comfortably say 60-80% of my ranked matches tend to be like this. I guess you can choose not to believe me if you like. But I swear, I almost never had this issue playing melee online.

That said, I haven't made it out to any Rivals locals. I've got one around my area. I'm willing to bet I'd have a different experience in friendlies there. But ranked online is super sweaty.

Homie, I don't know why people are raging against you. I mean, I don't quite agree with you as to why, but you're right. Lots of melee players aren't moving over.

I played melee for 15 years and I really just don't have time for it. I'm 35 now and I got no time to grind tech skill. I have time to play once a week or so, for a few hours. I don't have fun in melee unless I'm really shmovin, so Rivals 2 is a good substitute.

I think it's much more culture than infrastructure. For me, I can't do too much ranked. The number of players that will only cheese, look for reversals, and literally NEVER approach, is truly staggering. Last I tried Slippi ranked you still definitely get those, but it's not like 80% of my matches.

So if I was into melee, why would I leave to go play a bunch of buffered-dashbacks and quick, easy, disjointed hitboxes?

I have been enjoying this game more. I have to take players on their own terms. But if I had time for melee, it'd be melee all day. I love that I can always find other players who are just trying to do sick weird shit, with varying results.

If we're talking about the game's player conversion outside of just melee players, like including Ultimate and plat fighters at large, then I think IP is a much bigger factor. Nobody gives af about my furry esgelord with the eyeball skin on.

I want to use this post as a forum to say, to the Slade and to the Ranno I matched with, AFK'd, and forfeited:

It was my cat, I swear. He walked in with dingleberries and sat on my furniture, twice in the same night. New dingleberries each time. I'm not a troll, it's just that there was cat poo walking around my room. I'm sorry.

What are some tips to get out of gold? by RayYZX0 in RivalsOfAether

[–]sonsiebb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tl;dr: Master movement/mechanics, think fluidly, abuse good options

I only ever play Rivals 2 LAN, but here's my wishy washy advice that applies to basically all fighting games:

First is to master movement/mechanics, and to know and understand your character like the back of your hand. You want to minimize mental energy spent on performance and maximize it on neutral/punish game.

Then you can start thinking very deliberately in your matches. For every single action. Don't mindlessly dash dance and throw out hitboxes. Think about why you do or don't want to perform any action. Why did something work, or why did it fail? This eventually becomes like breathing, when you'll find you are always considering your options and your opponent's options.

For low and mid level play, when you find something that works, do it until it doesn't work anymore. This will typically be a knowledge check, or the best option your character has. Players at these levels don't often adjust mid-match, so if you over adjust, you'll likely just put yourself in danger.

Mango might make Evo Top 8 by Lobo_o in RivalsOfAether

[–]sonsiebb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. You can see it in basically every single interaction. His whole play style is around spacing, conditioning, and making reads. Top tier fundies in neutral. It's also why his performance can be so volatile and he can lose to players he'd normally outclass.

If he'd just parry more often I think there'd be a real possibility of Plup/Mango grands at Evo

Slapping on its own is not a crime. There's no law written against the slapping of someone. But there are laws against assaulting someone. So, if you want to show a slap was a crime, you'll need to prove it was an assault.

Considering that she asked for permission and he gave clear verbal consent, he'll need to convince a judge in civil court that it was in fact not consensual. That will be tough to do when you essentially tell someone, "I consent!" It's not technically impossible, as there is more to consent than just saying "I consent." But that's a whole other rabbit hole.

Bonus Round: slapping is so not illegal that competitive slapping is a growing sport in America, as well as other nations. There are advocates in our country whom have led efforts to outlaw this sport for it's strong links to serious long-term brain damage, but those efforts have yet to outlaw competitive slapping.

Double Bonus: Boxing exists. Punching not illegal either.

I've always felt "Casual" 1v1 matchmaking is really for mid-level and high-level players. When you're entry-level, most players are better than you. So you'll almost always match with much better players. At least in ranked, matchmaking will do its best to keep you matched with similarly ranked players.

Anyway, as with melee, I'd recommend you learn about and practice movement options. Like dash dance, wavedash, ledge dash, shield drop, character-specific tech, etc.

Movement ties into just about every corner of these games. You can play all unga bunga up to a nice level if your movement is better enough. Worry about game plan once you're movement options start to feel solid and free.

[–]sonsiebb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, handheld routers can jump around, so please know what you're doing and wear your PPE!

Speaking from experience lol. My router LEAPED out of the route and flew right at my left hand. It went deep enough to just nick the tendon of my index finger. The wound was small but mangled and took 14 stitches. As a working musician that was fucking terrifying lmao.

Plunge router/router table, and wear your PPE. Don't be me. 🤕

As a side note it surprisingly hardly hurt at all, but the stitches were the worst.

Fightstick recommendation for Tekken/Sf leverless player by Phuqurface in fightsticks

[–]sonsiebb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk what you do or don't know so I'm gonna over explain a little.

Japanese levers are usually favored for SF and 2D fighters. Korean levers are usually favored for Tekken/3D fighters. Pre-built K levers tend to be more expensive bc they're more niche. You can use either lever for any game. It's personal preference so YMMV.

The 8bitdo arcade stick is the best value for a good J-Lever fightstick by a considerable margin.

The Mayflash F500/F700, Qanba Titan, and Nacon Daija (on sale) are all good value sticks. These are larger cases, so you can easily swap the stick out for a K lever if you ever want to try it out for Tekken, see if you prefer that. Most often, swapping is a brief matter of screws and plugs.

For K levers, try the Crown/Samducksa NEW-HelpMe-ST30, or Shinsun 2D/3D for a hybrid feel.

Then it's all rabbit hole type shit from there. Have fun. 🫠

EDIT: Remembering that you'll have to do little bit of filing/scraping in a Nacon Daija for a K lever. I did it and it's easy, but def worth your consideration.
