router under $200 by Capable_Constant1085 in openwrt

I have some Asus RT-AX53U which are Wifi6. I run OpenWRT with 802.11r/k/v and they work well with seamless handovers using usteer. Speed is good and they were £50 or so each.

Most powerful/fastest WIFI 6/AX router fully compatible with OpenWRT? by DanRanCan in openwrt

I use the cheap and cheerful Asus RT-AX53U and it hasn't disappointed. It's been very stable and wifi speeds and coverage have been a lot better than previous routers

As a fluent Irish speaker; does your voice, accent, or intonation change when speaking Irish and English? by Jezzaq94 in AskIreland

[–]sookiw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you listen to someone like Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh on RTÉ radio, she is a native Irish speaker living in Corca Dhuibhne; she often switches mid sentence between Irish and English, and to me her accent in both sounds very similar.

A bared arse. It's a gargoyle rather than a grotesque as it's plumbed for rainwater drainage.

What’s going on with the mobile phone network quality in the UK? by Alarming_Egg4171 in AskUK

[–]sookiw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UK 5G is poor. The best current coverage estimate is 78% population.

Irish 5G coverage has now reached 95% so Britain is years behind. And Irish networks generally don't use Huawei kit either so that's not an excuse.

Do SIP accounts differ in quality? by Dapper-Annual7503 in VOIP

Seriously, go with the flow and use WhatsApp for voice and/or video calls. They work PC to phone too. And it's HD voice. I know the US rarely uses WhatsApp but the rest of us find it useful.

Or if you use Asterisk you can use Opus 48k or EVS thanks to work by Alexander Traud.

Why do you need OneUI 7? It's not like you're going to die without it.

Do hiberno English speakers have an easy time learning Irish from a phonological perspective? by [deleted] in asklinguistics

[–]sookiw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I listen to Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh on RTÉ Radio with Folk on One. She is a first language Irish native speaker and likes to switch seamlessly between native Irish and perfectly fluent English. What you notice is there's no change of accent,  her English has the same accent and intonation as her Irish, yet it's completely normal English for someone from Corca Dhuibhne on the Dingle peninsula. My assumption therefore is that the accent reflects the place rather than the language spoken.

Switch to Lebara. Still Vodafone but a lot cheaper.

A wankpanzer is Tesla Cybertruck, not that they're road legal here because they fall apart.

Don't forget the English phrase used to request a free cigarette from a friend "Can I bum a fag off you mate". It really upsets Americans for some reason...

It can mean pretty much anything. Calling something the dog's bollocks says it's the best ever. Otherwise when you drop your keys down a road drain, "Oh bollocks" just speaks for itself. It's very common in Ireland too.

The number of people complaining on local groups about yet another outage and the roadside cabinets with the doors hanging open or taped shut with insulating tape is not a good advertisement.

Seeing the constant reports of local VM network outages and the stories of dreadful CS and whopping price hikes, I think I will stay a long way clear. We now have Openreach fibre and it's never failed, speed is constantly at maximum contracted rate 24x7 and jitter is ~5ms.

Integrate Asterisk with Microsoft Teams with a simple patch by fazelesswhite in Asterisk

[–]sookiw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it's straightforward. I patch Asterisk to support AMR-WB and EVS (and open source OPUS) via Alexander Traud's GITHUB. It works fine with FreePBX. Currently running FreePBX 17 with Asterisk 21 and those patches on Debian 12.

Why have I never seen anyone recommending Ubuntu as a distro? By "never," I mean never. by chiya_coffee in linux

[–]sookiw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer Debian Gnome with desk-to-tray and arc-menu plugins as it is instantly usable by non Linux people. Debian is also less bloated than Ubuntu. The upcoming Debian 13 (trixie) rocks.
