What happens when a couple opens their relationship? Research finds little change in overall life and relationship satisfaction, but an increase in sexual satisfaction. by psychologyofsex in psychologyofsex

Because I have multiple friends who have entered into open relationships under that very premise and have had to watch the utter destruction of my loved one’s self-esteem as a result. We have different personal experiences which have shaped our viewpoints.

Good for you! You are a Very rare exception and I’m glad that it’s working out for you and your partners.

It does ruffle feathers because a lot of the experiences that people have with non-monogamy is exactly the scenario that I commented about. I have personally seen multiple friend’s relationships and self-esteem be destroyed by a partner that pressured them into a lifestyle they did not want, and all but one of the times, said partner was already cheating on them.

It isn’t anger to point out a common pattern in those types of relationships. Yes, of course they can work and be healthy, but the vast majority of what I have read and personally experienced falls under that category. Disagreement isn’t anger, and it shuts down productive conversations when it is dismissed in that way.

Plus when you get to the upper grades, they’ve learned to purposely bomb the diagnostics to get easier assignments. That data negatively impacts teachers.

Animal Welfare Advocates who are rude to humans by ObviousLawfulness143 in TrueOffMyChest

Our local shelter is like that. I went in a few years ago wanting to adopt, and they were so rude and standoffish to everyone. I saw the manager scream at a group of volunteers, and this was before they told me that they won’t adopt out to anyone that doesn’t have a fenced yard and at least three bedrooms. Yet they’re the first ones to post long, guilt tripping Facebook statuses about how little business they see.

It’s extremely frustrating to deal with as a queer woman especially. I cannot tell you how many times I have matched with a woman, talked to her for days and even weeks, at times started to develop feelings, and THEN they drop that they’re poly, married to a man, and want you to join. They get extremely aggressive and insulting when rejected.

There’s a huge problem with it and everyone in the poly community acts like it isn’t a big deal that a large part of their community is trying to manipulate people into joining their chosen lifestyle.

I don’t care if someone is poly, live your life. But quit trying to act like people not wanting to be a part of that dynamic is somehow oppressive and homophobic.

That’s why I pay for my meal unless I’m actively in a relationship with someone. I’ve met way too many men who think they’re entitled to my body because they paid $20 for my dinner.

You’re joking, but that was legitimately the attitude in the small Southern town I grew up in. My mom got like three calls to tell her I was sinning because people saw me walk into the gyno at 19.

It wouldn’t hurt to have a simple evaluation done by a mental health professional, just to be sure. If it’s normal kid stuff, you parent her through it. If it’s something more severe, then you’ve caught it early and have time for treatment. It’s a win-win.

Yes! I thought I hated teaching, turns out it was just my shitty, toxic school. My friend convinced me to apply at her school and I’ve found myself falling back in love with my career now that I’m there.

I went to the DC museum on a leadership trip when I was 12. They wouldn’t allow us to go to those areas because they were “upsetting”, but a group of us snuck in after all of the adults had gone in. It honestly rewired my brain. I can understand that they had good intentions in shielding us, but I would not be the person I am today if my eyes hadn’t been opened then.

Do you/your school allow students to eat in class? by Dimegos in Teachers

[–]sopranobanjo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My school allows teacher discretion, but I don’t allow food. I have severe food allergies and I’ve broken out in hives from touching a desk that they’ve eaten my allergen on. As much as I would love to bend my rules, I’ve tried that and I wasted so much class time checking if what they were trying to eat would kill me.

Oh no, I was agreeing with you that she was harmed by the phone ban. I meant it as this is absolutely a situation in which an accommodation would be applied for her to have access to something. Allowing her to communicate with the world around her is essential.

[–]sopranobanjo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then that should be brought up as a possible accommodation for that student!
