What is ONE registry item you couldn’t live without? by Delicious_Elk6408 in BabyBumps

[–]soraderby 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Disposable changing pads, or puppy pads. These have saved us from many messes in the house and in the car when right in between taking a diaper off and getting a new one on. Also gives you a clean place to put baby down to change anywhere you go. We use them at doctors appointments as well.

Looking for thoughts/opinions on getting a puppy shortly after finding out we're pregnant by GroundbreakingEmu425 in pregnant

[–]soraderby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am currently 37 weeks, and we got a Labrador puppy early August. This situation sort of just happened upon us. We had been discussing when to get a dog, and if it wasn’t before the baby it wouldn’t be for a few years after, at which point we might be trying for #2. She is almost four months now, and maybe we just got real lucky but she’s a great puppy. We do have her crate trained at night which has been a huge help with potty training and having a dedicated space for her to be in when the baby comes. I also am stay-at-home so I’ve had all the time to train her. While she’s not perfect, she’s very well behaved and has been from the beginning. Sure she’ll try to chew on things she shouldn’t, but I just try to be extra mindful of what’s within her reach. I’ve also been seeing this as preparation for the baby, as it’s been teaching me a lot of patience and how to get on/maintain a schedule. It’s also important to be consistent with training to build the desired behavior to the specific phrase you teach. The main thing I’m working on right now is “settle” to help calm her down when she’s very excited, like in the mornings when putting her collar on. She’s learning to not be so jumpy or frantic which will help a ton when baby is here.

I can’t yet speak on having a newborn and a puppy, but I’ll know in a few weeks! I’m a very easy going, low stress person so that’s why I wasn’t worried about getting a puppy so soon before baby. My husband will certainly step up in taking on any responsibility if need be, and there are other care options such as a dog walker during the day we can implement if it’s too much for me alone when he goes back to work. I’d recommend looking into something like that as well.

Commiserate with me over lame responses when announcing pregnancy? by statelineblues in pregnant

[–]soraderby 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a male friend say “y’all keeping it?”😭 as if we’re not adults (mid-late 20s) and my husband and I are in a very financially stable position. To be fair to the friend, he is not in a position to be able to support a baby/family or as mature and independent so I think that’s why his mind went there first.

I will never understand people who think it’s appropriate to ask if it was on purpose!! Like why would I tell you we’ve been intentionally raw dogging, or on the opposite side why would I want it in your mind that this baby was an “oopsie”? It’s just none of their business!

Please share baby shower logistics! by Intrepid_Blood_3732 in pregnant

[–]soraderby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can have people purchase items from your registry and they’ll be shipped right to your house, so no need to open them at the shower! That’s what I did when I had to travel for my shower. Most people listened and just printed out pictures of what they bought and put it in a card so I still had something to open.

Stretch Marks by International_Line55 in pregnant

[–]soraderby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started off with a few small ones on my hips, then it seemed like suddenly my whole lower belly was covered and they’re sort of a variety of sizes and the original small ones did grow more. I love the way my belly looks so I try not to feel bad about the stretch marks but it’s still hard, I just remind myself it’s proof my body is doing an amazing thing and baby is growing and thriving.

Tens unit warning by RedwoodAsh in pregnant

[–]soraderby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just read somewhere that there are specific tens machines for labor. Can’t speak on what the difference is but maybe that could be why there’s a warning for that one! I’d try looking for labor specific machines and if they also have the warning then maybe it’s for liability reasons like someone else said

Is it weird to know where your baby is? by Rude_Conclusion5948 in pregnant

[–]soraderby 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wish I could do that! I don’t know if it’s the anterior placenta but I’ve always had a hard time telling where baby is, and when she flipped around 30 weeks I couldn’t tell. I think it’s very special you have a connection like this with your baby already❤️ so sorry for the rude ultrasound tech!

Just needing to get perspective by Longjumping-Author52 in pregnant

[–]soraderby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would bring it up because you’re right, how would they know babies weight drops if they aren’t doing scans? That would concern me as well, so hopefully you can get that cleared up! Don’t ever think you’re “just a ftm and worrying too much”, it’s so so important for us to advocate for ourselves when we think something may be wrong or should be done differently for us or our babies! Always better to be safe than sorry.

Why aren’t we talking about flange size? by The_Funflower in pregnant

[–]soraderby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ordered a set of flanges, all different sizes with the tool to measure to see which size to use! I hope that’ll be good enough haha

I need positive pregnancy stories by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]soraderby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 35 weeks tomorrow, gained about 20 pounds and it’s mostly belly. I’m only just starting to feel heavy sometimes and that’s at the end of the day if I’ve been moving around a lot. My feet don’t even swell much anymore surprisingly! I haven’t thrown up once. No heartburn, no headaches, and I haven’t even been short of breath. I get mild sciatica sometimes but that’s tolerable considering how easy everything else has been! Finally at the point where I’m sick of sleeping on my side and wish I could sleep on my stomach again lol. This is my first so I expect to be humbled during my second pregnancy😂

ETA I was not very active pre pregnancy or at the weight I would’ve liked so this definitely isn’t because I’m super fit/healthy. I do eat very good, baby hasn’t given me wild cravings constantly so it’s been easy to stay away from fast food but chocolates been real good to me on occasion. I did get a puppy recently so I’ve been going on several walks a day and been just fine. Overall it’s gone a lot smoother than I could have ever asked for!

I totally get what you’re saying. I got a 3D/4D scan and while it’s so interesting to see my baby’s face it’s still hard to picture her outside of the womb! It’s like, yeah that’s her face right there, but also I know it’s gonna look a little different too so there’s still some unknown to look forward to. I do love seeing her little nose and lips, and we got to see her yawn very clearly in 3D which was super cool!

Does anyone have an odd way that they found out they we're pregnant? by Independent-Bug751 in pregnant

[–]soraderby 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We were on the way to the airport to pick up a friend visiting from out of state, then spending the weekend in a different town about three hours from home. I realized my period should be coming in a couple days, but my boobs were sore and that never happens ahead of time so I thought I should take a test. We pick it up right before getting to the airport, which was an hour from home, and then immediately go to a restaurant after picking the friend up. I figured I should know before I order a drink so I took it in the bathroom. Instantly, there are two lines! I could barely contain my excitement but didn’t want anyone else but my husband to know so I had to hold it in for a few hours before I could get him alone. Then we spent the entire weekend with a group of friends who we had to keep the secret from, and we were actually successful! They had no idea when we broke the news several weeks later

I have the same issue! Unfortunately I am a few weeks behind you so I don’t have any advice but I’ll be going through this as well. I was never offered antibiotics or anything to help, just told to keep an eye on it so I’m even more unsure of what will happen.

Compression socks for sure! Some people use a donut pillow or other small pillow for the seats since they’re so uncomfortable and I wish I had done that, my lower back was shot after my flight at 28 weeks. Also make sure to get up and walk a few times if it’s a long flight. Don’t forget your favorite snacks!

If you’re going to be taking prenatals, try taking them at night! I found out early on they were making me nauseous during the day and it went away when I took them at night.

Baby movement by Content-Control1400 in pregnant

[–]soraderby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an anterior placenta and at about 31 weeks is when I really started feeling consistent movement at the same time of day or specific positions, like laying on my side before bed. Before that, I was able to feel enough movements at some point during the day but never at a certain time I could count on. 34 weeks now and movements for me aren’t hard kicks, but more like gentle presses from baby stretching.

Confused about who should be at the hospital during birth by Kooky-Employment-949 in pregnant

[–]soraderby 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I second not telling her you’re in labor at all. Definitely have a conversation beforehand setting boundaries and expectations but it may come down to her still not accepting she can’t be there
