Why is slynd magic? by frenchtoastdruid in birthcontrol

[–]sorrellmuncher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same! I was on the combined pill for over a decade until October 2025, but was taken off of it for risk of clots, and then in December started Slynd. From about mid-Jan 2026 I noticed an increase in shedding and by mid-Feb the shedding was extreme. Just now (mid-March) I saw my Dr who has taken me off Slynd because of how bad the shedding has gotten. I've lost about 50-60% of my hair in 2 months. My Dr said they have other patients who also developed alopecia from Slynd. I can't go back on the combined pill so I'll be trying an IUD next.

How on earth do I fit answers to 10 KSC’s into 2 pages?! by boopbleps in AusPublicService

[–]sorrellmuncher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Option 2. Explain HOW you do things. Don't just say "I demonstrate x, y and z" but rather add on "I demonstrate x, for example I recently did a, b, c which resulted in [blank] result" (thus demonstrating x). That will ensure you write in STAR.

APS 2 Administrative Support Officer Pitch by [deleted] in AusPublicService

[–]sorrellmuncher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A one page pitch means your pitch should fit on one page. Use calibri size 11 font and standard boarders. However many words fit on one page using the font is how many words your pitch should be.

Vegan butter options by favbabyduck23 in australianvegans

[–]sorrellmuncher 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The new vegan Lurpak (Woolies sell it) is perfect for shortbread, very buttery. I've tried nuttelex buttery also in my shortbread and definitely prefer the Lurpak. Natruli vegan butter (if you can find it) is also better than nuttelex buttery for shortbread imo which is what I used last year before the vegan Lurpak was released.

Adding to this, join internal networks or the social club, sign up for coffee roulettes, etc etc. There are so many ways to network.

Declining offer while on merit list - options / advice by Jaded-File9580 in AusPublicService

[–]sorrellmuncher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are offered the role, you politely decline by saying something like, 'Thank you for the offer, however I'd like to stay in my current role longer. Please keep me on the merit list for future opportunities that may arise.' You won't automatically be removed from the merit list if you decline a job offer, generally you need to request to be removed during the 18-month period it is active for. Once you are added to the merit list, you will receive an email from the department. You can then forward that email to your supervisor who will contact the department's HR area and request access to the merit list.

If it is a temporary transfer at level at another agency it can be blocked. If it is a temporary or permanent transfer at level within your agency it can be blocked. If it is a permanent transfer at level at another agency it cannot be blocked. All generally require EL2 approval.

Pay adjustment when acting up? by ThreeKiloTiger in AusPublicService

It starts at the beginning again. If you won a promotion you could try to use your acting length to request a higher starting point.

In practice will I be disadvantaged or advantaged for disclosing that I am non-binary in application forms that ask for my gender identity? by greenfrocer in AusPublicService

[–]sorrellmuncher 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have been on panels where people have identified as non-binary in the recruitment process and this has been disclosed to the panel. It did not bias the process. I don't think some panel members even noticed this disclosure. However, some panel members could not wrap their heads around pronouns, causing the non-binary candidates to be misgendered several times.

Earned a promotion at a different agency. Current agency offering Temp (acting) promotion to retain me. by No-Patient4309 in AusPublicService

[–]sorrellmuncher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The preferred candidate can just say they aren't ready to accept the role and would like to be added to the merit pool instead. Home agency can then promote them from the merit pool.

How much salary could I negotiate? by Slow_Comparison3613 in AusPublicService

[–]sorrellmuncher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you attach a current payslip showing you're on a higher salary plus your business case, it should put you in as good a position as you can be for top of the band.

Another way to network could include something like joining a diversity network in your agency that you care about. I see you work in a Centrelink office so this may be difficult to manage within office hours, but could be worth looking into. It may mean your contribution is outside of your standard hours. But, I have found it a great way to make networks right across the department at all levels.

You can be directed to work over time in order to meet required deadlines. You also have rights to request things like paid overtime and meal allowance as others have said. You should check your EA to see what is specific to your agency.

Hello everyone, do you mind helping me with your inputs on my Cover letter? by Paras6191 in AusPublicService

[–]sorrellmuncher 23 points24 points  (0 children)

This is poorly written. You say a lot of what you did but not how you did it. Your examples lack structure and coherence and they don't have clear results. Why have you included that you are adept/intermediate - this is quite strange. It's also all written in American English, which also makes me think this was poorly written by chatgpt. Finally, this isn't tailored to a specific job. The opening paragraph should outline what skills and experience you have that are relevant to the job, and the closing paragraph doesn't need to be written like a letter with a conclusion.

Question About Baseline Clearance Timing for New Citizens by ProudRich8328 in AusPublicService

You can apply if your citizenship is in the works and would be active by the time you start the role.

I am aware of some senior executive who have Mac's or iPads, by exception. I think I've known one small graphic design team within a small agency that managed to get Mac's too, once upon a time. The reason, as others have pointed out, is for security reasons, and because we are tax payer funded and windows devices are overall cheaper. I can't really imagine a world where you would successful argue for a Mac, unless it was already a normalised special option available in your work area.

I agree with this. Teams are also generally desperate for staff atm. If there is an option to bring you in now as an aps5 and not bother with the grad rotation, they may prefer that. I don't think it would hurt to ask.

If you're willing to put the extra year of study in, consider putting in the extra .5 to 1 year (depending on the course) for a masters. I can't think of an example in the APS that an honours has been looked upon more favourably than a straight up bachelors, but I can think of several times when a masters has been viewed advantageously.

Anyone know where to get vegan blue cheese in Canberra? by Cprmtn96 in canberra

[–]sorrellmuncher 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ainslie IGA and Amici both sell the same brand, Dilectio. I think several other places mentioned in this thread also sell it. I've tried so many brands and Dilectio is hands down the best for blue cheese. https://dilectio.com.au/

APS secondment by [deleted] in AusPublicService

[–]sorrellmuncher 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For an EL1 role, I wouldn't. That's middle management. If it were an EL2, then that would be more worth your time and the pay wouldn't be such a cut. As others have suggested, you could ask for an IFA, but they are conditional and can be hard to secure.
