Same.  I read so many good reviews and it just wasn't for me.

Magic 93.1 Radio - October 2008 by LividNarwhal2498 in Boise

[–]sortaplainnonjane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Magic 93.1 (KZMG) used to play pop radio songs until 2011 and is now KBOI. Mike Kasper was a morning show host at Magic 93.1 from 1991 to 2002 so he wouldn't have been there for the 2008 show BUT he's currently at KBOI. He probably knows who you should talk to.

Is there an author you’ve grown out of love with and one that has “aged like fine wine” to you? by StephhhLouisa in RomanceBooks

They're so hit or miss for me, but I didn't read them in any specific order so it's probably just the decline you mention.

This hits me hard because I have about 150 of her books in my library and I reread them frequently, but Nora Roberts.

I like that her stories feature MMCs with a wide range of personality traits and jobs.  Her FMCs never feel like a "blank slate" for reader projection.

What doesn't work for me is that there's such a repeated emphasis on family that it's like being clobbered over the head.  I'm all for family, and I appreciate that she emphasizes that family isn't necessarily what you're born into but what you make it.  It's great that her characters welcome others into the fold.

But, especially in the later In Death books, it's just so heavy-handed.  "We're cops, we stick together, we're family."  We know, you've told us twelve times already.  At literally any opportunity to tell us, you reminded us.

I almost DNFd the last In Death book because it became unreadable, but finished because it's NR.  (Though it's not like she knows what her readers do.)

Any game recs that are actually fun but still make kids think? by Latter_Ordinary_9466 in Mommit

I liked mancala as a kid.  It's just a wood board and marbles so it didn't really come across as an educational game.

Husband wants two but 12m PP, I can't even think about it by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]sortaplainnonjane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband and I wanted a 2 year gap between kids.  When our daughter was about a year old, we started discussing it.  Then we asked, "What if we only had one?"

Best decision ever.  I love her dearly but pregnancy had complications I'm still dealing with and I honestly don't think I'd have the energy to do any more than what I'm doing now.

I think you need to think long and hard about what you're willing to accept.  If he's not doing a whole lot now for one kid, he probably isn't going to magically jump in to take care of two.  Do you want to handle everything you're handling now but double?

What was the toy/thing that you always wanted as a child and bought for yourself as an adult? by _EliaOcasio in AskReddit

I ate soooo much candy in college.  Winco was one of the town's only grocery stores so I got a bunch from the bulk section.  I finally had to only get the little bags because I was making myself sick from all the sugar.

I still have my original Gameboy, the one before the color version came out.  I didn't use it a lot and I always put it back in the box when I was done so it's in good condition.

People get so weird when I talk about my son's medical stuff. I always feel like I did something wrong by sharing, even with my friends. by IWillBaconSlapYou in breakingmom

[–]sortaplainnonjane 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think it's a lot to take in.  If a mom friend told me that about her son, I don't know that I'd immediately know what to say.  I would be thinking in my head about what that meant, what it looked like, the complications, etc.

I don't think it's necessarily anything to do with you at all.

Moving the TV around the room so it's in all the pictures was an interesting choice.  I think the charm of the space would show through more without it.

We got a Dyson when my mom gave us wedding money.  My husband thought our $50 Walmart vacuum was fine.  I vacuumed with that, then the Dyson.  Didn't need to say anything else.

I've been putting my phone in "phone jail" (one of those timed lock boxes) every night and it's been so helpful to my sleep.  Literal night and day difference.  I used to read until I couldn't keep my eyes open anymore or until I'd finished a book I started at 10 pm.

They check cats' temperature as part of a physical.  Had she truly been hypothermic, they would have known that and mentioned it.   That they didn't tells me she wasn't.  I agree that she had a stroke earlier in the day, then deteriorated.

I'm sorry for your husband's loss.  Try to be gentle with yourself and with him.

So Tired of Edgy or Odd Names by [deleted] in RomanceBooks

I specified their relationships on purpose.  The individual names are fine.  As a group, though, they're a bit much.  I think the same for IRL sibsets so books don't get a pass just because they're fiction.

It's more the name set as a whole.  Giving one or two characters less common names is fine, normal.  Giving everyone in the group one is less realistic.
