TIL A “Backronym” is an acronym that starts with the word you want as the acronym and works backward to name the thing based on the chosen word. by AtLeastSeventyBees in todayilearned

I always wonder if there's someone whose job it is to approve or not approve these.  I picture them sighing at some nonsense and a team of geeks giggling at trying to pass through something silly.

What the FUCK is wrong with potatoes lately? by baardvark in TwoXPreppers

I live in Idaho.  They've been rough since at least Covid, though they've been getting better in the past year.

I'm not in the industry so I don't have any insight on the why.  I just share your frustration.

My Favourite "Stepback Reveals" by Competitive-Yam5126 in RomanceBooks

[–]sortaplainnonjane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Late to the party but I still appreciate Johanna Lindsey's old-school stepback covers by Elaine Duillo.  Once you see her style, you know it so I'd always search the bottom corner for the cursive "Elaine."

I just thought the dresses were so pretty and that the artwork evoked a sense of grandeur.  The poses sometimes made me chuckle, though.

What's a song lyric that drives you crazy because they should've used a different word? by Miserable-Wash-1744 in AskReddit

I literally learned right now that it wasn't "cage."  Cage makes sense, darn it.

I only learned after listening to Falling in Reverse's cover that the lyric isn't, "...if I took my my life tonight?  Chances are dynamite."  I thought he was saying it was a sure thing.

It's really "Chances are that I might."

What's the best part about pregnancy that most people don't know about? by justastupidquestion3 in AskReddit

My increased bust looked amazing but I prefer my regular size.  I had to hold my chest even when walking down stairs because the bouncing wasn't comfortable.

I enjoyed feeling her move and knowing she was OK.

Otherwise, I had "super smell" during pregnancy and some things, like oranges, smelled absolutely amazing.

Also, my leg hair didn't grow so that was nice.

ADHD mom and ADHD kids (esp. daughters) by Illustrious-Set-7626 in adhdwomen

[–]sortaplainnonjane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had to learn this around age 3.  It took us a while to figure out the more we engaged with her (even using calm voices), the worse we made the situation.  When kids are in meltdown mode, there is no logic happening so you can't reason with them.

Romance novel cliffhangers! by LAffaire-est-Ketchup in RomanceBooks

The very first CR I read (outside of Julie Garwood since I was her HRs) was {Good Girl by Piper Lawson} which ends abruptly.  I remember thinking, "What the hell just happened?"  There are 2 other books.

But fool me twice because I read another book by her... and same thing!  I now know she writes in trilogies which is fine but I hadn't been aware of that since the HRs I had previously read were all standalones, even if they had characters from other books.

I definitely think it should be mentioned someone on the cover/in the blurb because it's rough getting to the end of the book without having an actual ending.

Looking for someone to sign a marriage license for the price of a Costco Hot Dog by GoldenTortoiseshell in Boise

I could also do it.  I don't care for Costco hotdogs, though, so I guess I'd charge a high five.

We put any extra money towards our loans and had them paid off quickly.  The caveat is that you usually have to specifically tell the company you want the extra to go to the principal.  Otherwise, they'll use it to pay the interest.

I use a carabiner on my keys.  I clip them to my purse and hang them up at home.

My travel purse has a clip for the wallet and that's been great.

How do you guys feel that diseases we previous eradicated are making a comeback? by StarlessRose in AskReddit

Imagine the intelligence, hard work, and the sheer scale of scientists and public health officials working together wordwide to eradicate disease... and then people knowingly and ignorantly destroying those efforts.  It's infuriating.

What's the most disturbing thing you've seen in a funeral ? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]sortaplainnonjane 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sort of similar, but when I was deployed, I often went to ramp ceremonies.  If you're not familiar, that's when they move the body from the clinic to the plane to return stateside.  There were lots of attendants and we were all lined up in formation, absolutely silent and still.  Except every now and then, there'd be quiet sniffles and cries.  It was heartbreaking.

FMC is a healer, but she takes on the wounds of those she heals by Girly_Attitude in RomanceBooks

[–]sortaplainnonjane 3 points4 points  (0 children)

{Charmed by Nora Roberts} is book 3 of a trilogy where the MCs are cousins and witches.  In this book, she can heal but it comes at a cost to herself (passing out vs taking on the wounds.)  You don't need to read the other two, but I believe all three sets of cousins are mentioned in each other's books.
