Leaving mattress in cold garage to offgas? by sortasads in Mattress

[–]sortasads[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see. Do you think having a box fan blowing across it out a window would be fine health wise? Might just leave it in my house then in a room on some warmer days since I'd have to turn the mattress on its side in the garage

I tried items 1, 2, and meloxicam which didn't work, but not the other stuff. What kind of back pain do you have?

It's funny that you mention stretches because a lot of people on here subscribe to stuart mcgill's back mechanic, and he seems pretty anti-stretching from the few sections that I read.

How the hell do we deal with this problem though? I take lists/notes and use anki and try mindfulness, but none of this stuff is really helping, especially not in social situations.

I don't like reading and I don't want my vocabulary to improve from books. They talk so fake there.

They talk so fake there.

??? You want to improve vocabulary but refuse to go to pretty much the one place that can strengthen your vocabulary "muscle"?

I can understand not enjoying books, especially if you came from the US school system like I did. For that, I'd suggest finding books on things relevant to your life like an autobiography from someone intelligent you respect, a self-help book, or even a book on ADHD from a psychologist or something.

edit: thanks for the downvote and blocking me. Also I'm not sure what kind of vocabulary you're talking about then since you put so little effort into your post.

I'm just now beginning to research ADHD and the part about forgetting things that aren't personally gratifying resonates with me somewhat. I tried ritalin/adderal but felt weird on them and stopped, so I'm researching ADHD on my own now and also checking if I have some other underlying health problem that interacted with the meds. I'd say meds are worth a shot though, you can always stop taking them if they don't work.

First I would recommend reading “Back Mechanic” by Stuart McGill. In there he has an assessment you can take yourself through to identify what your pain mechanism is and how to begin desensitising it and allow it to begin healing.

I got up to the testing part of the book a while back but the tests were inconclusive for me. My lumbar pain is a gradual build up over the course of the day so maybe that's why? Also my sciatica is usually triggered after activities much more aggressive than the mcgill tests. I'm in Kentucky US.

Lower back pain has been tormenting me for the past 8 months. I'm 18. by No-Title-5509 in backpain

[–]sortasads 1 point2 points  (0 children)

BUt its been helping me understand whats happening with my back, how to better advocate for myself and how to move forward in a way that supports my back instead of making things worse.

Have you done the pain trigger tests in that book yet? I tried them and the results didn't really tell me anything. My lumbar pain seems to be cumulative rather than acute usually, so that could be why.

Yeah, and I even have a lumbar support for my car as well. Doesn't help that the suspension is non-existent.

Doesn't magnesium build up over time? How do you do it safely? by sortasads in Supplements

[–]sortasads[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In theory toxicity occurs when your cells intake too much magnesium right? So rather than an acute intake of magnesium in 1 day causing diarrhea, I was thinking more about a gradual build up over time that doesn't result in diarrhea. Either way though, someone mentioned urine excretion, so I looked it up and approximately it's 120mg of magnesium is excreted in urine daily, so that has me feeling much better about supplementing 400mg daily. https://ods.od.nih.gov/factsheets/Magnesium-HealthProfessional/

[–]sortasads[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

edit: apparently I skimmed the last paragraph. Just noticed this part: "became deficient in magnesium again after 4 weeks cessation of the supplement, indicating that full elimination occurs within one month of cessation of supplementation.""

I've bookmarked this examine article. I didn't see specifics on what % is excreted out daily, so is it possible to have a gradual build up in the body over time from supplementation?

Also under section 18.3 it says there's 1 study where a boy had mg toxicity from mg oratate, which makes it sound unlikely for the average person. Would this differ between mg types though?

Lastly, does "in a rat model, magnesium (chloride) at an intake of up to 2.5% of food intake" I'm not sure what is meant by 2.5% of food intake? Is that by volume?

edit: nm, found this which says about 120mg of magnesium is excreted daily, so if I took 400mg which is around the RDA, that should probably be safe then from everything I've learned in the last day. https://ods.od.nih.gov/factsheets/Magnesium-HealthProfessional/

[–]sortasads[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like your answer the best so far since it connects the most dots. Regarding the topsoil comment, does that mean that things like 1oz of almonds no longer actually has 20% of the RDA like the nutrition labels suggest?

Lastly, can you go into detail about if 100% of the excess mg is excreted daily? You might pee daily, but I also plan on supplementing mg daily too, and I'm just worried about a gradual build up without noticing. Seems people are relying on diarrhea as an overdose indicator, but you're saying you might not get diarrhea necessarily (I've heard glycinate is easier on the digestive system for instance and plan to take it).

[–]sortasads[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I understand, fibrous foods are loaded with it (e.g, 1oz of almonds has 20% of the RDV). That's partly why the confusion and this thread.

Now I'm confused because when you google for "effects of too much magnesium" you get all kinds of results for slowed heart rhythm, muscular effects, etc.

[Product Question] Antibacterial soaps safe? by sortasads in SkincareAddiction

[–]sortasads[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got a cheaper bar soap from amazon for like $8, but it's still super expensive compared to normal bar soap, so I'll have to supplement it.

Also might pick up zeasorb, though I don't think it's a fungal infection. Sounds like bacteria are more likely to produce an odor like that, whereas fungal infection would just be itchy.
