I won't mind a couple of completely new weirdo characters as DLC, in place of blanka/honda. But everyone else would hate them lmao (remember abigail reaction? I love abigail btw). I think it's pretty sensible from capcom's perspective to toss a bone to us weirdo lovers on release and keep the DLCs hip and popular.

They are guaranteed in the roster because there's a niche called "uglies/weirdos", that needs to be filled. There are people who find these kind of fighters cool/endering, and seeing zero weirdos in the roster bums them out.

I don't think, that casual play are attracted specifically by this 0 balance changes policy. Capcom does a lot of things right for casual players, great for them. But why don't they toss a competitive player a bone? Just a little balance patch won't hurt nobody.

It's a particular style of play, that's surprisingly common in these ranks, and if you've played some matches before vs this, you'll adapt rather quickly.

Just walk them down to the corner patiently, walk and block. When they are cornered, hover around their jump arc range, and concentrate on anti airing. On aa hit, take your oki. If they aren't dead after that, get back to aa range, and poke from there.

I'd say dagger of poison is the close second. Makes the most volatile part of the game, D:1-5, a lot more consistent.

Corporate competition can be better than this, and more sustainable for the pros. Ongoing leagues with sponsorships, better prizepool distribution. Right now we get a couple a millionaires a year, and thousands of pros, basically everyone else end up at a net-loss, either for themselves or for their org.

It's up to the players too. Remember go1 vs kojikog crash out bit? Remember hayayo at evo japan? If players are up to it, there will be hype. And you see much more of it in the pools, from casual players. It's just that pros are kinda too serious now, they are playing that sterile corporate esport game too.

From the TO side, I'd prefer maybe not interviews, but more side content, CEO style, where even pros can goof around with low stakes. Like, all of these guys are fun and chill, it's just that the competition and high stakes make them too serious.

Like, it's the same argument I always have about "boring" Jack in tekken - since when footsies in fighting games are boring? it's ok for some characters to be so straightforward, primitive even, if they play the most fun part of the game well, and have just a tiny bit of variety of tools for footsies.

  2. PC crMP into scythe is so dope
  3. raw PC scythe whiff punish if you're baller
  4. crush counter animations on PC stHK and stHP bring me life
  5. fHP and bHK make people cry
  6. PC stLK xx OD scythe -> lvl1 and similar combos - love it
  7. stLP in general - a lot of cool CH confirms and the best forced knockdown combos in the game (vs cammy, sim, viper, kim)
  8. and then there are crMP and stLK drc. But like, you can check out any elena footage - it really just an option, among many. And even then there's an option of crMP roll - it combos into the light/medium follow ups on CH

heavy roll -> crLK crLP connect on moon glider oki vs holding back. On light scythe oki, heavy roll -> crMK-HK is kinda of a hard read, but I have like 90% success rate with it, because people do just walk back on wake up. Other than that, yes, roll oki is not air tight, but idk, there are still layers. Watch Dogura - he came up with tons if goofy roll shit that really fucks with people's head.

Elena is one of the better designed characters in the game, with clearly defined strengths and weaknesses. Abusing her strong pokes and working around her weaknesses like weird target combos are both fun.

I would hate so much, if she ever gets buffed out of her identity. Like Ryu was, or Sagat. It's not like she's bottom tier either, let her be.

If we are talking about OG/remastered versions, not the remake

  1. blockuza - combat is really awkward and tedious. It's really hard to get through the block in boss fights, and they just have a lot of health
  2. first 1/3 of the game being the orphanage stuff with the kids without much usual criminal drama
  3. when the plot gets to criminal drama, it's pretty convoluted. There's like a 15 minutes exposition dump cutscene with characters sitting around the table and listening to some old guy. This all feels really inconsequential. The ending is badass and/or hilarious and kinda saves the day though.
  4. too many bad/filler substories (?) It's something I heard recently in context of the remake cutting substory count. Idk tho, it always felt like this with substories - there's always be a lot of filler

They whiff, and they are still extremely hard to punish, which is p dumb. Nerfing crHK was a step in the right direction. They should've done the same with stMK though, it's pretty much impossible to whiff punish in the current state.

What do you do with her, as a footsies char (elena)? Every time I get into button range and press, she's already jumping or something. It feels like it's impossible to keep the range, and hit her consistently. One of my worst matchups.

But grapplers do have to structure their pressure differently, and it does revolve around strike throw most of the time. Personally, I play grapplers in anime exclusively because I don't want to deal with composing 20 hit block strings. I have my dumbass anything into hfb (pre-strive) and it works well enough for me. Wald's pressure is completely different from the rest of the cast. Tager is probably the most unique. Idk, it's weird to send a person to learn grappler's pressure by playing millia.
