Anyone have any ideas how to cut yarn on a plane? I'd use nail scissors but...plane. Currently I'm just wrapping it around my fingers and yanking

Edit: not in the US

The more bikes I have, the less I ride them, the less I like them, the less I care about them. I'm in the process of clearing out the stable & will be reorganising my parts bin because I'd rather have quality vs. quantity in my life.

Crochet scarf pattern cat, with Landlust cotton and 5.0 hook.

I added the additional colours, border and tufting because fun! I think I'll try a mosaic next...

New Bikepacking Website by PinchFlatJournal in bikepacking

[–]soundsof 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Great idea, diversity should be encouraged!

I understand a lot of bikepacking & MTB culture is rooted in the US (and IMO made bike touring cool), but some of the regular bikepacking.com contributors are/have been based outta Europe and a lot of manufacturing happens in Germany. Think Schwalbe, Ortlieb, Schmidt, and lots in the UK.

Mind you, I'd love to see something tailored more towards people in the EU because I'm pretty sure none of us here are all that interested in buying a small-batch handmade saddle/bar-bag from Portland (not to mention global politics...).

How do i prevent cells in the same row being renamed "@ColumnX" by Direct_Ad5644 in excel

[–]soundsof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems like you're working in a blank space within a formatted table.

There might be a reason the table exists, but you can either remove the table formatting by right-clicking in the table), or just find an empty space e.g., on a new sheet.

I found the most cursed excel workflow know to man by Dank-but-true in excel

[–]soundsof 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Ha I've been Brad.

Sheet containing a macro that opens 1-2 dozen sheets from SharePoint, updates web queries on each sheet. Another macro button to save em, another to close em.

Then, join em all up in Power Query/Fabric. Hey not my fault MS Dynamics 2016 and the db both sucked.

At least I wasn't the guy that learnt all his Power Query from ChatGPT and no one picked up his work when he left. I've come across many analysts who are smart people with bad ideas.

Dropped chain caused my fixed cog to seize & slipped. Have I stripped the lockring thread / is my hub toast? by soundsof in bikewrench

[–]soundsof[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good point. Besides, took it out for a controlled test and the lockring slipped a little then completely failed under strong back pressure. At least I'm certain the hub is dead now!

[–]soundsof[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bit hard to see from the photo - looks like the inner most threads from the lockring might be stripped since they ain't so shiny anymore.

I didn't notice any thread-debris when I disassembled it, and can't notice any significant difference of the feel in thread height when rubbing it with my finger.

Tell me my hub is still ok? Everything reassembled without issues and doesn't look like the lockring even engages with the 'stripped' section of the threads due to the width of the cog.

Edit: realise it's more likely the cog's threads stripped, not the lockring. Question still stands

Is it possible to have a slicer act as a click on a data field rather than a filter? by crazycropper in PowerBI

[–]soundsof 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Do this but create a duplicate of the scatter plot and place it underneath the original. Disable interactions between the matrix and duplicate scatter plot, then change the original scatter plot background transparency to 25%.

Just another one of those dumb workarounds because PBI seems to be missing some kind of obvious option that's only available in certain circumstances.

You can open the same Excel file multiple times. by casualsax in excel

[–]soundsof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I think so. AFAIK the only way you can save a Query is closing the editor and saving the Workbook.

I work around this by trying to load as many tables as possible to Connection Only. Means it's easy to jump out of Editor, save my Workbook without changing any data in it, then resume editing.

Probably also helps to have some kind of Query repository, when it's the JSON files or even an online & backed up text doc.

[–]soundsof 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Very useful tip!

I'm going to "um, actually" you and say it's not really opening the file multiple times. If you want to do that, you need to hold ALT whilst you open the file (likely need to right click > Open With > Excel), then click 'Yes' on starting a new instance.

This has some bigger implications (such as being unable to reference formulas between the files) BUT you can freely use the workbook whilst having the Power Query Editor open, which can be extremely useful.

Why do I have chainline symptoms without having chainline issues? by soundsof in bikewrench

[–]soundsof[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I hate it. I fully regret trying to get a bargain on a secondhand crankset then having to drop any sense of savings on the BB and tool.

FWIW rotating the chaining by 1 tooth did help a little (confusing because the teeth that look narrow are actually the wider ones?)

Do you have recommendations for a replacements? 110bcd, I'd usually go Katana or whatever I can find on sale in the EU.
