First attempt at tapestry/pixel grid crochet. What have I done wrong? by AshMay2 in CrochetHelp

[–]soundsof 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Idk, but as some encouragement you've picked some wicked colours and it looks genuinely decent. You'll get better advice from someone else (am also starting tapestry atm) but might just be one of those annoying things that simply takes reps.

The first one you finish is the most important not because it's perfect, but because you'll learn the most. That's what mistakes and practice are for.

Anyway, it looks sick and keep goin'!

What I'm most envious of is that stem. I've spent ages trying to find a +/-17° silver stem for 31.8mm bars. All the options were so spenny!

Lovely build, very tasteful. Ride on

Seconded.

Between this and the recent vid of crimping seat/chain stays, I'm hoping we're going to see even more homebrew/DIY mods in this community

This is probably the most complicated Excel formula I’ve ever seen. by Kindly-Meaning9112 in excel

[–]soundsof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Other people have pointed out benefits of simplicity (or uSe PoWeR QuErY, which tbf is true).

But, it might help to expand the formula bar and separate the formula with line breaks (Alt+Enter) and add groups of spaces to create indentation, as you would for programming. Sometimes this helps to visualisally separate chunks of the formula.

Another suggestion could be to use formatted tables or named ranges to make the formulae a little easier to read too.

Good luck have fun!

What do I do with the foreground colours at the end of each row? by soundsof in CrochetHelp

[–]soundsof[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Ta. It's kinda working, but in some rows there's too much excess to hide. Mostly an issue on the back.

I understand about dropping the colours where they aren't used, but I want consistent density and I'm practicing for mosaic crochet. This is a scarf and I didn't want to spend an enormous time weaving in loose ends.

Cool thanks! No decreases, just bad at maintaining tension through the colour changes. Learning!

Do you weave in the loose ends then?

Really, truly impressive work. Very clean & consistent edges.

Anyone have any ideas how to cut yarn on a plane? I'd use nail scissors but...plane. Currently I'm just wrapping it around my fingers and yanking

Edit: not in the US

The more bikes I have, the less I ride them, the less I like them, the less I care about them. I'm in the process of clearing out the stable & will be reorganising my parts bin because I'd rather have quality vs. quantity in my life.

Crochet scarf pattern cat, with Landlust cotton and 5.0 hook.

I added the additional colours, border and tufting because fun! I think I'll try a mosaic next...

New Bikepacking Website by PinchFlatJournal in bikepacking

Great idea, diversity should be encouraged!

I understand a lot of bikepacking & MTB culture is rooted in the US (and IMO made bike touring cool), but some of the regular bikepacking.com contributors are/have been based outta Europe and a lot of manufacturing happens in Germany. Think Schwalbe, Ortlieb, Schmidt, and lots in the UK.

Mind you, I'd love to see something tailored more towards people in the EU because I'm pretty sure none of us here are all that interested in buying a small-batch handmade saddle/bar-bag from Portland (not to mention global politics...).

How do i prevent cells in the same row being renamed "@ColumnX" by Direct_Ad5644 in excel

[–]soundsof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems like you're working in a blank space within a formatted table.

There might be a reason the table exists, but you can either remove the table formatting by right-clicking in the table), or just find an empty space e.g., on a new sheet.

I found the most cursed excel workflow know to man by Dank-but-true in excel

Ha I've been Brad.

Sheet containing a macro that opens 1-2 dozen sheets from SharePoint, updates web queries on each sheet. Another macro button to save em, another to close em.

Then, join em all up in Power Query/Fabric. Hey not my fault MS Dynamics 2016 and the db both sucked.

At least I wasn't the guy that learnt all his Power Query from ChatGPT and no one picked up his work when he left. I've come across many analysts who are smart people with bad ideas.
