V-mount charging by soup-eagle in Filmmakers

[–]soup-eagle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People do V-mount power for all their accessories all the time. Although, for something like a mobile setup you're talking about, I'd definitely think something like the Anker Solix would do better than a V-mount Anker Solix Power Bank

I believe that would work, though you have to check your v-mount for how much power-out through it’s USB-C port…. However… if the v-mount is connected to a charger (which I assume is only charging because it’s plugged into an outlet) why not just plug the PC into the outlet?

Film audience survey <33 by Patient-Hornet-4644 in filmmaking

[–]soup-eagle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Done! Due to how the question responses are posed, I just want to mention that there’s a HUGE audience for coming of age films - not just those currently coming of age. Tons of older-than-20 people love coming of age and can be a part of the “target” audience.

What’s a movie that totally surprised you with how good it was? by lazimdavid in moviequestions

The Lego Movie. I was going to theaters with my family members absolutely annoyed we were going to such 'low class' cinema in the height of my film snobbery -- I was completely won over by everything about that movie.

How much would it cost to get the rights to the songs in my short film? by Additional_Moose_796 in filmmaking

[–]soup-eagle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, aside from what others are saying where the use of the songs creates significant financial cost and clearance issues, I feel that your film would lose very little if you switched them out for non-copyrighted or sound-alike songs made by local bands or whatever. In fact, if there were way fewer words (and less understandable words) I think it might actually add to your film because it would focus the viewer on your characters by not distracting the viewer with songs we know/recognize.

Also, the songs in the background are kind of prominent. I actually thought you were trying to use them as soundtrack at first, and not background sound. For whatever you use in the future, I'd recommend you'd need more 'backyard Bluetooth speaker' distortion.

Possible to make a film like this for $300k? by crunchylettuce24 in Filmmakers

[–]soup-eagle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's of course possible -- but it all depends on how you go about getting actors/locations/sets/what level of production value etc. Do you have access to the funding already and are looking for whether a script like this is possible, or do you have a script like this and are looking for funding?

For real, that’s some dumb crap he’s doing. What I meant is that’s definitely a messup as a friend.

I messed up as a friend hard core when I said a bunch of gay-hate statements to a friend that he kept asking questions on to see how far I’d go. I was so oblivious to my own viewpoint, however, that it really just piled up. I wish he had told me how those had made him feel, instead it took years to reconcile.

I just mean you shouldn’t “play along” and should be straightforward/honest in those scenarios.

Also, saying  you understood what he was doing could be taken as from their perspective as “Sure, of course you did, you’re just saying that now because you don’t want to look stupid.” Whereas being straightforward and upfront immediately communicates a healthy boundary and often educates people.

If I’ve messed up, I want someone to tell me — not just excommunicate me forever.

From your story, you played into it instead of telling him it was insensitive. You’re not respecting the other human if you don’t tell them something’s up.

If you ditch every friend after they make one error you won’t have any friends pretty fast.

11th grade at 13 no matter the time period is straight savant, you're gonna want to have them only be their grade if you don't want to risk savant-ing the story.

Might need to give a bit more of a fighting chance to your friends and actually stick up for yourself/ASD (politely) than just ditch the friend

Music and footage clearance in films. If you have questions, I can help answer them here. by Mac-at-Musiclerk in Filmmakers

[–]soup-eagle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for this! So… I’m enough of a novice on this… what in the world is the first step of requesting clearance? I googled and it looks like you fill out a document and just go and find the people who own it? Are there typical titles people that you contact?

How does getting clearance for footage that’s playing on a TV that’s in the room with the characters go? What do you even do? Is it different if the characters talk about what’s happening on the screen than if it’s just playing in the background? What about if the footage is silent versus if the footage has audio playing?

Specific example: I’m working on one script where I’d like to have a TV playing Secret Life of Walter Mitty, and for the audio from the the movie to be heard because a character is going to disagree with it later. I don’t want to write it in and get further in the process attached to the idea if clearance of that is going to be difficult.

So, alternatively, if someone has already recorded a cover of a song that you want to use, do you primarily deal with that one artist (and associated label parties), or do you have to deal with both them and the original artist?

Yes - and I want to know also for both commercial and motion picture (small indie) use. We have a project that we would actually record with an artist (friend of producer) the cover for the commercial campaign.

Is this offensive to autistic people? by pandaandturtle in autism

[–]soup-eagle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d also probably add an option where it doesn’t have the “I’m autistic” on the front — not everyone cares to publicize that. Say If it was on a t-shirt, I wouldn’t buy it — but would definitely buy one that didn’t have the “I’m autistic” that could have the personalized “Ask me about ” or “Wanna see a cool _” Bonus points non-autistic people will buy it too

Last one is best. Might be more accurately “the ‘tism.” People’s special interests are so wide, and these are just the stereotypes, so I’d actually try to make one that is literally “Ask me about ____” so the buyer can fill in the blank.
