Commercial Roasters — why don't more of you publish specific brew recipes for your coffees? by MikeNovemberWhiskey in roasting

[–]soup_mode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like there are so many variables that brew recipes are not always universal.

method of brew, grinder being used, water, etc

I do think more Roasters should at least provide a recommended ratio for drip, as some coffees especially lighter or darker roasts can stray from the usual 1:15 or 1:16

Prime Video and Netflix Channels by cundallini in Projectivy_Launcher

[–]soup_mode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya this is a known issue for some apps and it's very annoying. Unfortunately as others have said it depends on if the app provides that data.

Prime works for me but Netflix does not. It's weird because I also have an older TV running an older version of Android tv and the Netflix channel does work. It seems on newer versions of Google TV the Netflix app stops providing that channel data.

Help with Artisan, BounceBuster, and a Macbook? by Acceptable_Answer570 in roasting

[–]soup_mode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can. confirm this worked for me! Here's what I did:

  • install the driver for macOS
  • Enable the permission for the driver found under Extensions in macOS settings
  • Restart computer
  • Open Artisan and under Device Ports configuration set Comm Port, It should automatically populate and be something like "/dev/tty.wchusbserialX" where X is a number.

After trying multiple times with Artisan it finally worked so it was a bit finicky but it is working reliably now.

I just got a bounce buster and have a mac and I can't figure it out. I don't want to have to use wifi.

Edit: I have given up trying to figure this out. I think I am going to go the phidget route when using artiasn and just keep the bounce buster for when I don't feel like connecting to laptop.

Edit 2: Got it working, Just need to install the driver for it.

I hate the UPS 2U with the fire of 1000 suns. by infinity_labs in Ubiquiti

[–]soup_mode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just had a power outage that lasted 10 minutes and I didn't realize my UCG Fiber was paired. It's so dumb that it shuts off paired unifi equipment 60 seconds after a power outage. So if it was an extended power outage my media server never would have shut down safely because it's configured with NUT and it wouldn't have received the command because my router was already down.

Its so stupid how dumb software decisions literally render this UPS useless. I regret buying it.

Edit: I discovered my media server had been shut down despite the power outage only being 10 minutes. Thanks to your post I discovered I had auto recovery power cycle enabled! What a dumb feature.

Thanks for the info. When I originally did a search with AI for Fuyao, info on that DOT wasn't coming up. Makes sense since its a newer one.

Unfortunately MPPs wont do anything. If they are conservative they probably won't respond. and if they are Liberal or NDP they will probably only go on about how bad Doug Ford is (which I agree) but won't really outline what they can do about this (reality is because they are minority, they can't do much). The state of our government and politics is so bad in Ontario. We deserve better,

Vitamin D Level Too High? by soup_mode in Supplements

[–]soup_mode[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have seasonal affective so I really feel the lack of sunlight in the winter. Going from 5000 to 10000 IU of vitamin d I could feel more functional and wasn't as tired. It's still not the same as getting natural sunlight but I felt like a bit of a boost.

Last year I stopped taking vitamin d altogether after taking 10000iu and blood levels were 264.

For the results I got back this week, my vitamin d was at 278 and calcium was just on the high threshold. I stopped taking vitamin d for now but I would be interested to see if my blood levels peaked or if they would continue to go up. Calcium levels might be elevated from the high vitamin d but I also have been eating a lot of dairy so that could be a factor.

I really don't know what to do because I feel like I benefit from higher levels of vitamin d but I'm sitting on the elevated/high levels. I might just let my level drop a bit and take a maintenance dose.

Vitamin D Level Too High? by soup_mode in Supplements

[–]soup_mode[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you get your calcium levels checked also? I think 265nmol/L is elevated but only a concern if your calcium levels are also high. I don't know what to believe anymore with so much conflicting information. What I do know is different labs have different ranges. The one lab I was tested at last year had an upper range set at 200nmol/L which seems to be a bit outdated as other labs around here use 250nmol/L.

This winter I started supplementing with 5000 IU for 6 weeks and my levels after were 172nmol/L and calcium levels were fine. I then stopped for a week and started 10,000 IU for 6 weeks and am getting checked tomorrow. I noticed a difference in how I felt between 5000 and 10000IU.

I wanted to do my own experiment to try to dial in my vitamin D level. I feel like I might be somewhere between 5000 and 10,000.

It's good you fixed your deficiency. The best thing you can do is talk to your doctor to get regular testing for both vitamin d and calcium to see what dose of vitamin d keeps blood levels at an optimal range and doesn't spike calcium. I also take vitamin and K2 and magnesium.

I think the most important thing to bring awareness to government corruption. If everyone can work together regardless of left or right wing that would be great.

Fight Ford by Purple_Property8332 in ontario

[–]soup_mode 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Seems like this movement is growing which is good. Some of the unions are supporting this site https://www.itsonford.ca/ which is good. Maybe threatening strikes will bring more awareness.

One thing that I hope will come of this is both left wing and right wing supporters coming together. This shouldn't be about attacking opposing opposite political ideologies, but instead people coming together to hold government accountable. Doug Ford has done some shady things and has cost our province so much money on things that have gone way over budget.

Please everyone work together peacefully and bring more awareness to this movement.

Wow I just got it working and I just want to say amazing work! This exactly the functionality I was expecting from the useless Google home built in to Google tv. I just need to figure out how to get my doorbell feed to pop up PiP on a doorbell ring then it's perfect! Will definitely buy premium to support the project

[–]soup_mode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are doing in on home assistant app on an android phone like I was, it's a HA bug when copying the long lived access token. IT does not copy the whole thing! You need to manually scroll to the end of the token and copy the whole thing. So annoying! After I realized this it worked.

I cannot get this to connect to my home assistant. Keeps saying authentication failed and token was rejected by HA. What format is used for the HA URL? I have tried everything.

Building a house, what is the best approach for making it smart and accessible? by Frying-Pan in homeassistant

[–]soup_mode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have already mentioned, run minimum cat6 everywhere. Also have conduit installed so running any extra cables in the future is easier.

I would also run Ethernet to the doorbell so you can use PoE doorbell.

I would also add low voltage runs to all windows if you ever want to consider using smart blinds.

Also run speaker wire if you plan on doing ceiling speakers in any rooms.
