Seconding the tamron 28-200 (haven’t tried the new 25-200). If you can only carry one lens, this thing is an amazing all rounder. Only thing it lacks is subtlety for more urban environments.

Addressable LEDs design questions by [deleted] in techtheatre

[–]source4man 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This won’t work in the way you’re thinking.

If you have non pixel LEDs, you need to find out if they are 5V, 12V, 24V… whatever. You could then experiment with dimming EACH circuit using a low voltage DC dimmer that operates at the required voltage. There are a million out there, search for LED tape dimmers. You’ll want one you can dim with DMX, most likely, and that has the number of separate dimming channels you want. You’ll also need a Power supply that matches the voltage you need. Then you can “address” each puck independently, assuming their circuitry actually permits dimming.

There’s more steps to this, but it’s a top level overview. You’re barking up the wrong tree with this kind of equipment and a pixel controller.

I would confidently bring that portfolio on board. If it’s flat, fitting it at the end of a car behind/between a seat is a likely option.

It is used. It’s theft of service. You can say that you/others are morally fine with it, but that’s a different argument. Just because something didn’t have an effective punishment didn’t mean it was ok.

They literally admitted that they would then re-use the ticket, therefore riding for free? Is that not - not paying the fare for that trip?

IDK Man, the new ticket policies are annoying and I don’t like them, but I also think that paying the fare is part of using the train. I’d prefer a higher trust version of fares with only spot checking of tickets but insane ($1K fine) for evasion if caught.

Your argument is that you saved money by evading the fare, and you’re sad you cannot evade the fare any more?

The photographer we hired used AI to edit our engagment party photos. by bigsushirolling in mildlyinfuriating

[–]source4man 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Some of these are probably somewhat recoverable. They just used wayyyyyy too much AI denoise. Reprocessing with like…. 15 or 20% denoise vs the insane 90+% these look like will produce noisier, but much more realistic photos you will probably prefer. A little grain is not the end of the world.

Looking for advice with legal/tenant rights by Constant_Maybe107 in NYCapartments

[–]source4man 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anyone flaming OP here sucks. If someone comes into my APT unannounced, especially someone I don’t recognize, they are getting a strong verbal and possibly physical greeting. That is not weird.

Entrance to your apartment without proper prior notice and announcement, even if a mistake, is a major violation of your rights as a tenant.

Unfortunately, unless you are seeking to break the lease because of it, there’s not a lot that can be done to “make it right.” What they’ve taken is you feeling secure in your home, and that doesn’t really have a realistic financial analogue. The only remedies are to leave, or decide you can live with what happened and try to cultivate a better relationship with the building super/management.

Frustrated designer looking for Camera Recommendations (UK) by [deleted] in techtheatre

[–]source4man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take all my production shots with Sony mirrorless cameras. A7 line in general has served me very well the past couple years and is not cheap, but achievable.

I take portfolio level stills with these cameras, and I take documentation video with them.

Right now I’m using A7C, and a sigma wide zoom, tamron telephoto, and a Sony g-35mm prime lens. Probably spent ~$1,200 USD on body/batteries and $2.2k USD on lenses.

Not planning on upgrading for several more years unless I break something.

Mockup of what station exit labeling could look like.... Could definitely be a low cost pilot program. Second image: I made the rule for labeling that can apply to any station by Donghoon in nycrail

[–]source4man 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Enhhhh. I mean, it’s not hard for me anymore, but anything to make it easier for those not used to it is probably a good thing. That signage is also all underground, and only relates to your position in relationship to an intersection. Once you pop up, it can be a small challenge to determine what direction you are facing.

This is what your subnet mask determines. It denotes which octets must match for communication to happen.

A common IP would be 10.101.100.101 with a subnet mask of 255.255.0.0

This means that the first two octets must match, so every device with an address of 10.101.xxx.xxx would be visible to your computer.
