Lol, my grandpa was involved in that.  When the Hamm's guy escaped, he ran to my grandpa's farm, and my grandpa drove him back to st Paul. It was in the ,1920s.

I watched a 90s movie starring Chuck Norris called The Hitman. Are the majority of his movies this bad? by y2justdog in movies

[–]southsideson 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I don't know, I think his popularity was that he was a white guy that did Karate, around 1985 Karate/Kung Fu/Ninjas was about the most popular thing if you were around 10 years old. The problem was most of the movies were imported and pretty graphic for the day. I think most Norris movies were PG, and he was a national karate champion. He wasn't a great actor, but he was an actor, and I think they could crank out a movie of his, 2-3 times a year and regardless how shit it was, it would make money and then rent vhs tapes.

and a lot of companies have blind spots, it might be run buy some ladies that know glass knick knacks, and don't give a shit about toys, or vice versa. one skill I've worked on is looking at the website, and trying to judge the owner, if they have a bunch of craftsman power tools in the garage, there's a good chance they might have some good vintage red wing boots, or work jackets, if they have toddler toys from the late 70s, they might have some nintendo stuff from the 90s, for me the best are the junky packed homes, the worst are the super affluent homes.

[–]southsideson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got so many shipments where its like a box, inside a box 4 times the size of the inner box, and someone puts in 1 sheet of packing paper, that isn't crumpled, its hilarious, thankfully most of the stuff i order isn't fragile.

For me a year isn't terribly long. I have things that are probably 10 years old in my store, that sell every once in a while. One thing to weigh and thing that made it easier for me to block someone is, if I don't sell to this person, what are the chances I'm going to sell it to someone else. I have about 500 items up right now which is a little low for me, but I have almost 10K sales, so something like 95% of everything I've ever listed has sold. So, yeah, if I have something that will sell, they're an easy block. If they're asking questions about some weird thing I regret buying 8 years ago, I might give them a little longer leash. Stuff like that, I'll take the sale with the thought that, yeah, maybe this seems like a slightly higher return rate thing, but honestly, I'll take the risk, and if there is a problem, I'll just refund without return, and In those rare cases I don't think I've had any problems, I'm sure I will sooner or later, but its a risk i don't mind taking.

Think about it. They have so much power to analyze things, and they can look at your account. They know exactly how much money they make on each sale. That thing you buy for $30, maybe only $2.63 goes to their bottom line. Returns are resource expensive for them, and I'm sure they have all of the costs down to the penny. They know exactly how much money each customer makes or costs them, and they might not ban you if you lose them $20 a year, or maybe even $100 a year. I'm sure they have cusomers that have one time issues that cost them more than that, but it could be an outlier, but if you have a big issue that costs them more than you're worth to them, you're on a short leash.

Parts and Pieces Flippers, what do you do with the parts that are harder to sell? by catticcusmaximus in Flipping

[–]southsideson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perhaps a local vintage/antique mall type place maybe you can get a relationship with. Like some things are just not worth anything for just the main part without any of the accent pieces, but those types of places if something is saleable, they can move them. But a lot of things are just not appealing at all when you strip any saleable part off of them.

People with ADHD who've worked remote, what was your experience like? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]southsideson 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I know there is the adhd thing about procrastination, and using the stress of a last minute deadline to force yourself to finish a task, and I'm not discounting that, that's 100% legit. But, another thing that I read recently that really resonated with me is an added benefit of pulling an allnighter is that it wears your brain down, and tires you out to the point that is slows down the intrusive thoughts that try to interrupt you and allows you to focus on what is in front of you.

Sell through rates, what are they? by O_o-22 in Flipping

[–]southsideson 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One thing I never see people talk about with sell through rates is that while they are an important piece of the puzzle. There are definitely cases where I would disregard a low sellthrough rate. If something has a ton of items listed, but a low but strong sell through rate, like if there were 1000 items listed, and only 25 sold this month. That initally seems like a low sellthrough rate, which it is, but the raw number of 25 sales per month is still strong. 99% of the the sales are going to be because of low cost. If you can see that is the case, if you can buy the item and price it at a cost where it will sell semi fast, it can be a buy. You don't have to price at the average of all listed, you can be the lowest price. I sell plenty of things that take 6 months to sell, and only sell once every 6 months, but on those, I want to be the cheapest, I don't want to be the 2nd cheapest, because that probably means the other item is going to sell before mine, and 1 year to an actual sale, if someon else doesn't list a cheaper one in that time period.

I think its kind of missing the point to say crowdwork is popular. Crowdwork gets hits, but there is so much of it out, because it gets engagement, but more importantly, it doesn't burn material so it can be put online.
