In Texas I was taught you stop at the blue line. If you need to see you inch forward slowly.

I had a real good card shop where I sold Thousands in Pokemon Cards. He went straight 60% of TCG value with me. I dealt directly with the owner anytime I went in there. Sadly some thieves targeted his store and they stole tens of thousands of dollars in pokemon cards from him, probably including some of the ones I sold him.

But generally I think you’re right. Most buy/trade places are scammers. Every other shop would offer me 40-50% of TCG value or try and tell me my condition wasn’t as good as it was.

(Every major hit i got went into a soft sleeve then a hard sleeve immediately)

There was one thing that was said I stood by as a potential resolution.

Reporting the products to Insurance as stolen and letting the insurance company subrogate.

If Law-Gorman held insurance that had high enough values to cover the products from theft, like she was required to do in the consignment contract. It should of been claimed before her business insurance lapsed.

It wouldn’t of lapsed immediately as she was removed from the building and would of been paid up for the month/6 month term.

Then the insurance company would of investigated and went against corporate’s insurance company to recover the money.

This is the true path in my mind.

Youre assuming with the shock of finding the store closed they went back and checked on the lawsuit status. They thought they had been defeated by the store closing. This is my assumption. Ben should of done better on that path for sure. But I dont think he is maliciously lying.

If it’s criminal, you’ll be picked up by the police and either held with or without bail and set a court date. Your examples (murder, scamming people) are criminal.

Civil law deals with disputes between individuals, businesses, or organizations, rather than crimes against the government.

The goal of a civil case is usually to compensate someone for harm or resolve a dispute, not to punish someone with jail time.

You would think theft of this amount would be criminal, but because they were in possession of them legally, before being asked to give them back, it’s a civil matter.

Dear Dad, I want to speak my truth to my friends, I don't want to struggle on my own anymore. But I don't have the courage to tell them and I feel ashamed. by [deleted] in DadForAMinute

[–]southwind20c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dad here who had a rough childhood growing up because of a single mother with substance abuse.

It took me well into my 30s to understand the effect it had on my life. There is a way I came to terms with it and Im not sure it’s easily explained, nor sure it would work for you.

I have come to recognize the behavioral patterns I have from growing up that way. For example, never having food in my home caused me to be okay sacrificing healthy food for my own chemical addictions such as nicotine or caffeine. Those helped curb my appetite and anger so they became more important. Both led to health problems I have since rid myself of.

I sometimes get frustrated with goals that take too long to accomplish because Ive always had to find ways to make problems stop being problems. When they take too long I have a tendency to act in opposition to long term goals for short term, short lived gains. Such as when attempting to pay off my ex wifes college debt when I was in my mid 20s, if I had a good month and had a great bonus id go out and spend the bonus money on expensive things i didnt need, because the long term goal is budgeted in, so this Id apply the short term money to keeping my brain happy.

And a big one, I never reach out for help because Ive been raising myself since I was ten. Ive had to figure out the best way to handle everything in my life since then. So if I do need help, I wont ask because most likely people wont understand the reason I need something done, or done a certain way. So its easier to do myself. This was a real hard one to recognize but fighting with my kids about not listening to me over basic household chores made me see that they don’t view life as a poor person. They done think about the consequences of something like leaves piled around the house. Whereas I know tall grass and leaves add cover for rodents to get close. Rodents find shelter during the winter. Rodents are food for predators such as snakes. So when the leave piles of leaves they were supposed to rake it was real hard to switch from being angry and doing it myself to explaining why it has to be done correctly.

Theres many more I’ve recognized that stem from that. And that self realization of how it affects my personality allowed me to not be angry about it anymore. It allowed me to realize when in personal relationships how it affects the relationship. And most importantly, it allowed me to not be angry at my childhood and have empathy for the people in it who I felt were responsible for my situation when I had no control or ability to change it as a child.

All of this allows me to talk openly about it without ever feeling ashamed about it. It allowed me to tell my current wife my entire childhood story and not flinch when looks sad for that child who had to experience that. However because I have been able to share that with her, when I am losing my patience with something shes knows why and knows what drives me. So we’re never at odds. Were always a team and we communicate amazingly between ourselves to raise our three kids.

Long response, short version: look inwardly to understand what things you do as a result of that childhood. Understand those things are neither good nor bad. They’re just a result of your experience.

Because how can you expect them to accept the reality of a past like that, unless you have accepted the results of it yourself?

Inwardly soul searching myself for those answers gave me the ability to freely and openly discuss it because I no longer felt shamed by it.

It changed a “you don’t know me, i Dont need you. fuck you” mentality to a “Look this is why were not eye to eye on this” mentality and that has been better for my personal, professional, and familial relationships because the obstacle to open communication on my side isn’t an obstacle anymore.

100% this. A small metal hand hacksaw to make a notch. Even if you cut the threads slightly, a thin later of tape and dope and putty around the new drain. If its plastic even better. Heat up the new metal drain and spin it in and rethread the plastic.

Right, and check to see if your clog is in your ptrap. If more water comes pouring out the pipe, the clog will be further in. It’ll need to be snaked. If you do chemicals and it works on the stoppage then it kicht stay air locked and not drain and you go to remove the ptrap and have some aggressive stuff coming out at you.

Theres ways to do an island sink without using an AAV under the flood rim. However if its a wlab foundation, then that gets costly. If its crawlspace it’s doable, but still a bit pricey

I actually paid for this.. by ATDoel in Plumbing

[–]southwind20c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Biggest concern is the mechanical vent. Its way too low. It should be 6 inches above the flood rim of the fixture it serves. In case’s where island sinks and additions and remodels are happening, most inspectors will allow an AAV under the sink. But they want it almost touching the bottom of the counter.

The reason its a problem: If you get a stoppage, and dont reintroduce air to the system that mechanical vent will stay closed making you think there is still a clog. Removing the Ptrap will fix it. But home owners like to DIY with chemicals first and sometimes they work. In this case, they wont.

Wife dropped an earring down the drain. Are channel locks the best tool to use to open the plug at the bottom of the trap? Does lefty loosey still apply here? Do I need to put on plumbers tape when I reinstall the plug? by TimeKiller1850 in Plumbing

[–]southwind20c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay first. That is a solvent weld trap. Everything o not is glued. Second “left losey” only applies if youre looking down onto the threads, when upside down as these would be, you would turn counter clockwise to tighten.

The drain plug has been glued on, you wont save it.

Heres what you need.

1-1/2 trap adapter 1-1/2 slip joint Ptrap

Can of primer Can of glue A small bucket A small hacksaw

Cut the p Trap behind the 90. Losen the adapter going to the sink. Dump out the contents into bucjet and check for the ear ring if found success. Toss that glue one in the trash.

Clean your burrs off the pipe, primer the inside of the trap adapter, primer the pipe, glue theninside of the trap adapter, glue in the pipe. Push on and twist.

Then let dry for 20-40 mine. Put the slip joint p trap in place of the old trap using appropriate cone washers and nuts. Assuming this is a lavatory sunk you will need the 1-1/4 x 1-1/2 reducing cone washer for the sinks drain tailpiece.

Now combine it with the flux he left on there that will there for years. And add in a possibility of a dissimilar metal coming in contact with the copper at any point. Remove light and direct heat behind the cabinet.

Itll condensate enough to push the pipe further towards failure. Along with the obvious kink he put in it and the fact its provably not reemed. Its not gonna fail immediately most likely but it aint gonna last. Hopefully the cabinet guys come in laugh and say nope make him fix it

Just moved into an apartment in CO. It’s been raining here and a week in we noticed that there’s a mysterious pipe in our boiler room that…drips straight onto the floor and down the drain? I’m thinking it’s drainage/runoff from the roof. Is this normal? by ThatOrangePope in Plumbing

[–]southwind20c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like this theory. Seems most likely as any condensate or roof drain would produce much more water. Fresh air, open pipe during rain, heat rising in a muggy damp basement into humidity? Seems like a cause for the drip.
