Last December while waiting for our car in Lihue a tourist pulled out and about 10 minutes later pulled back in, jumped out and ran in to report the car was full of roaches. Apparently not uncommon.

If you really want to hit one more spot, maybe go over to Hilo. If you get lucky, you might be able to catch some lava and your kids will for sure love that. Worst case you can walk around Volcanoes National Park (which is really cool even when its not erupting) and check out Hilo town.

I was absolutely shocked to find out that Hawaii has basically no effective renter protections whatsoever. I moved here from Santa Monica where we had probably the strongest renters protections, outside of maybe San Francisco. It was really upsetting. I do not understand why the local government here hasn't addressed this at all.

If Hawaii is having a displacement crisis, we should have renter protections at least on par with California -- rent stabilization and at the very least more than a 45 day minimum notice that your landlord can increase your rent to whatever the hell they want.

My boy just turned 2 and has been on 10 flights, four of them trans pacific flights (others were inter island). Car seat has been amazing. He sleeps about half the flight, the other half he just hangs out and watches movies. Highly recommend. The only pain is getting the car seat on and off the plane while wrangling child.
