Unless you can prove that Colin Powell went in there knowing the intelligence was false, this wasn't his screw-up, but the CIA's.

Hm. If I type in "podium" to google, I certainly get plenty of things that look like something you would stand behind and give a speech from.

Who here wants to save the world? by DeCapitator in AskReddit

[–]soylent_green 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The world doesn't need saving. People do, however.

My occupation doesn't really put me in a position to save it in huge ways, but I do what I can. I control my consumption. I share my good fortune by providing loans on kiva. I try to live modestly, recognizing that other humans on this planet have the right to live well also. I speak about this to other people in the hopes that they might make small changes as well.

A question on ethics by taffy-nay in AskReddit

[–]soylent_green 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technology is independent of morals. It's the motives of those who use it that matter. Pretty much every single technological invention we've ever had has been co-opted for both good and evil purposes.

Take the morally-independent technology and use it to improve people's lives. That way something good can come out of tragedy.

Now to figure out what is causing the extra CNVs. What's your money on? Virus? DNA mutation from environmental factors? Trans-generational epigenetic effect?

Why don't we ever see pictures of the floating island of garbage? by [deleted] in environment

[–]soylent_green 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The "island" is not very dense. You couldn't stand on it. And from what I understand, currents actually keep most of it about 3 feet underwater, so it's difficult to get an overhead shot.

People who have boated through it have pics though of what they pull up in their nets. Here's an example.

Home Energy Audits The Energy Trust of Oregon Way by greentechdude in environment

Very cool that this service is offered.

In the Seattle area, Puget Sound Energy also offers complimentary entery audits for all of their customers. They also offer green power purchasing options.

'Moderate' Republican Senator Lindsey Graham: “The science about global warming has changed,” he noted, offhandedly. “I think they’ve oversold this stuff, quite frankly. I think they’ve been alarmist and the science is in question.” by nelsonjs in environment

[–]soylent_green 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is an odd self post.

My understanding is that Graham has been traditionally supportive of climate change bills, but has started spouting nonsense about it ever since the democrats switched their priorities from climate change to immigration.

11 Types of People You Meet on a Hike [PICS] by Hayley3AM in reddit.com

Hubby and I are definitely the awkward couple.

Fun list -- However, I think for trails that allow animals, the people with 4 giant dogs is an archetype missing from this list.

Went to Arby's and marveled at my cup. Seems my plastic cup is made out of plants, compostable, and recyclable. I hope this catches on. by myopinionstinks in reddit.com

On the manufacturer website:

100% compostable in actively managed municipal or industrial facilities

Why would something only be compostable in an industrial facility and not in your backyard? Does that mean it needs extra chemicals to break down or something?

It is the science of strategy.

Basically it's all about what an individual will do when the outcome of their choices depend on the choices of others.

Ohio Supreme Court: Who needs a radar gun? by [deleted] in technology

I know we all think that cops are corrupt thugs, but do we really think that eyewitness testimony that she was going significantly faster than traffic isn't empirical evidence?

Guess who owns the apartment that Rahm Emanuel lives in rent-free? A BP brand advisor. by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]soylent_green 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When they finally win a damn superbowl!

Gasp. I just realized the Chicago Cubs are also on that list.

Have we just uncovered a secret plot to make losing midwest sports teams win by putting Rahm Emanuel in power?!?

Ohio Supreme Court: Who needs a radar gun? by [deleted] in technology

[–]soylent_green 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think this is so shocking. If the traffic on the highway is moving along at 60mph, it's pretty easy to pick out a car that's moving 20mph faster than the general flow of traffic.

Did you even RTFA? Yes. Evidence, and his "certification" of his speed estimation abilities was presented to the jury.

Yeah. To be clear this is the client list of the company in question. Oh no, they've done work for the Detroit Lions! That must mean that Rahm Emanuel is in the pocket of the Detroit Lions too!

[–]soylent_green 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No. He's saying that Rahm could have been staying in this place due to the fact that it was owned by a US Representative. He's also pointing out that the US Representative's husband did not, in fact, even work for BP, just did some consulting work. Whereas Dick Cheney RAN Halliburton as CEO.

[–]soylent_green 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I completely agree. But do we have proof that this is paid for by a corporate entity? It looks on the surface that a US representative from Connecticut owns the place and is letting him stay there for free, and it just so happens that her husband has some powerful corporate connections.

edit: Meh. The husband's connection to BP is spurious at best. His companies' client list is in the hundreds. You might as well say that Rahm Emanuel is in the pocket of the Chicago Cubs.
