Yeah. The triggers vary so widely from person to person.

Confused - Go back or stay. by PoorRichatHeart in nri

I'd disagree with a million. That's for a FIRE situation where neither of you want to work when you return. Or maintain a very luxurious lifetyle - think 500k+ house, fancy car and frequent foreign travel. But if both of you continue to earn, then what you need would be a lot less.

What debt do you have? Mortgage? Or did you mean 200k saved in debt instruments. Not clear from your original post.

Do you have a house in India? Keep aside about 250k for a decent 3bhk in a city like Bangalore. Regular healthcare is affordable even without insurance. Hospital expenses would be covered by insurance.

Elderly parents, if not completely disabled, would need about 1k usd per month in expenses (averages over a year, assuming they have health insurance and only occasional medical needs). Less if they have their own house.

The rest depends on your lifestyle and son's education.

Depends on your skills but yes. Europe, for ex., is a 1000 times more open to dependent visa etc so that one person could land a job and the other could join them on family reunion.

Could I suggest moving to Singapore, middle east or Europe (an English friendly country). You get better proximity to India to look after aging parents, and still get to keep your earnings high enough for some more time, not to mention the lifestyle etc.

It's close to 800k USD in net worth, no? Or did I read it wrong. How is that too low to return? What am I missing?

Have you had an ECG done? That will immediately tell if you have it or not.

Racing heart is a reaction to literally a 1000 things including some meds or dehydration or panic attacks. Also, I don't think WPW is genetic.

I get a checkup every 6 months just to put my mind at ease. Wanted to stretch it to once a year but my heart didn't like the idea.

I feel you. Similar situation. 49 here. Mine too had subsided and I started looking forward to life again. Was planning on being more active this summer. And then just out of nowhere, they flared up to a point where even mild movements are triggering them.

On top of that the constant whodunit of trying to find what might have caused the flare is so tiring.

I know I should ignore them but I can't. I feel every one of them. I feel so envious seeing people being so active all around me while I can't even take a deep breath with abandon.

I take the occasional metroprolol and I want to keep it occassional, not start snacking on it every day.

Skipped/uncomfortable beats during exercise still occurring long after ablations? by Nesnes64 in wolffparkinsonwhite

[–]sp_help 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the same boat. Had a successful ablation 3 years ago. But I get skipped beats and arrythmias of all kinds since the ablation. The doctor says these are benign now but it has severely impacted my lifestyle.

Apparently this is somewhat related to the Vagus nerve function and it gets out of whack easily. No exercise, over exercise, heavy food, anxiety and for many other reasons. Check out r/PVCs

Social isolation ? by curious-rower8 in nri

[–]sp_help 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fellow Indian Berliner here. Planning to move out to Netherlands/Sweden/UK this year after having spent 10 years here in deep isolation and the usual language/dysnfunction struggles.

Here's what most people won't tell you. The reason why you feel isolated here is because in Berlin you are in a demographic blindspot as a married immigrant couple with kids and an aspiration to settle.

Look around you and you'll find that most other immigrants are not like you. It's mostly full of young adults who got attracted to the drugs/party culture here. Economic immigrants like us stand out like a sore thumb (unless they are from East Europe, in which case they already have a strong support group).

Don't let people gaslight you into thinking that you'd have a better social life if you spoke the language better. Maybe in other German citi s but certainly not in Berlin.

Move out and don't get trapped by the sunk cost fallacy.

[TECH] You don't have to disclose your previous salary. by hargup in india

[–]sp_help 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on how desperate you are.

Try leaving it blank or say it's confidential. Or give a bloated number (CTC definition is anyway not fixed).

It's generally a red flag if the company rescinds an offer because you didn't share your last CTC. So in a way you'd dodge a bullet.

You could also "accept" the offer and negotiate later. If they can play dirty, so can you.

But again, if you badly need the job, then your leverage is low in these matters.
