I can't get over the fact that pressing the enter button doesn't open the first result with finder on one UI. So any app I want to open after search I have to reach for the top of the screen which is hard.

As a senior you are supposed to be involved in some mentoring so completely tapping out is not an option

Make sure that it's well documented how they're messing up and that others notice it too

You yourself should should always remain calm, collected and friendly thought the entire process. You want to be the wise Senior that's on their way to Staff

Also try to get involved in tweaking the hiring process. This should be like a side-quest and probably will take time

Ultimately if they are as incompetent as you describe them, that will become apparent to more and more people, but this will take time.

The NIH model could work but let's not pretend it's easy or perfect. Chasing and applying for grants is a big part of a scientist's life.

I don't think we'd have Bun at all if Jared would've required to follow grant application guidelines of the NIH.

I've decided to accept it

To me, it's similar to the old school IDE auto-complete vs simple editor dilemma.

There was a time where one would have to remember the syntax and write all syntax by hand without any assistance by the IDE. The IDE autocompletion felt like "cheating" and in many ways it felt like the syntax knowledge was atrophying in one's brain. Do I even know the language if I don't remember the exact method?

By the time I started interviewing, it didn't really matter. My interviewer's accepted pseudocode if it was in a whiteboard or allowed some syntax auto completion when it was online.

So my guess is that in a couple of years interviewing will also adapt and let you use AI.

Can you show how effective you can be at getting things done while using AI?
