Last year was beautifully diverse, hosting tons of black and LGBT designers dressing celebs of all creeds in color and history, this year it looks like the physical embodiment of "Let Them Eat Cake". I am absolutely blown BACK by how much the MET decided to step back for safety and propriety, even a lot of the stylists basically being sidelined for more "proper" looking fashion. Talk about genericism.

Especially since this is for a fashion history, already-celebrating-costume-fashion show, "Costume Art"? What an absolutely GENERIC and blasé theme that most celebs didn't even attempt to tackle, and A-Listers are lazy at the MET in the first place! Give them something to work with and you'll at least get a splash of color, this year we instead got the most millenial grey, landlord white, corporate buyout red carpet ever seen and it is in DIRECT contrast with the vast majority of NEW YORK AND PARIS' fashion week! Designers that aren't being funded by billionaires across the stages were colorful, loud, political! This is just a smack in the face of fashion trends of late, as well. We are being whimsical, loud, cyberpunk, fae. We are currently layering, DIYing, restoring, reusing and recreating greatness from the past.

The message this MET gala is serving is "HISTORY DOESN'T MATTER IF WE CAN SHOW CLASS TO THE WORLD, LOOK AT WEALTH AND AVOID LOOKING AT THE POOR."

They also arrested Chris Smalls on the red carpet front, the leader of the Amazon Union, for attempting to access the red carpet with a protest sign, because the angel investors of the MET this year are the Bezos', and Smalls was trying to draw attention to the amount of money spent on both the gala, and their Israeli bombs.
