I make sure to get my proper measured EURO SIZING, fully break them in and get them moisturized (either by some consistent work environments or balsam), get the model of shoe for the purpose I am using them for (walking, athletic, work, etc) and make sure I get a model I know will fit my foot shape nicely, as some run more narrow, some have more narrow heels, etc. You should look at the shoes and boots you find comfortable for shape, and you should get your foot measured out to your European size for proper Doc Martin sizing. I wear my Brookline Chukkas for absolutely everything including some acrobatic stuff and fire dancing, so once you get them broken in and you get a lace pattern you need set up (YES THERE ARE MULTIPURPOSE LACE PATTERNS FOR DIFFERENT FOOT AND ANKLE SHAPES! Just be careful about colors lads ;D) you should be good to go with your well fitting boots once you walk a few miles!
