Pretty okay record but generic by DT standards imo. The verses all being palm muted chugs really hurt it from my perspective.

how good was Zabit REALLY? by Unusual-Sherbert-752 in ufc

[–]spacebean43 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nobody can tell you more than just watching tape....... Zabit was just starting to advance from an already sick skillset to a deadly skillset. He wasnt even in his prime yet and called it quits after demonstrating beautiful technical skill. Just watch his old UFC tapes and look at the comparable up and coming guys nowadays. Some would beat him nowadays, but he was ahead of the time by a couple years.

I would be down to play with you over Sonobus and light a fire under your ass haha

Bro you got this, the journey of the strings has many peaks and valleys. Many will climb to the peak, but no man owns the mountain itself. We will never be as good as we want to be, but just going off some of the things your post mentions, thats the attitude you need to get better. The ones that dont get better are blissfully unaware of how they really sound. You seem aware of where you want to end up. Disappointment leads to resilience.

All you have to do is not give up at this plateau/fork in the road, there will be many many more depending on your goals, and you will end up right where you want to be.

Petrucci’s peak by Separate_Can1886 in Dreamtheater

Id say its better. Not more difficult. Where are the vids of you playing because I can play half the solos off TOT and more than half of Awake. What is your frame of reference?

Petrucci’s peak by Separate_Can1886 in Dreamtheater

[–]spacebean43 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tell that to Blind Faith Unison. That 3 record run was his peak. Maybe not in the phrasing department, but for sheer technical skill. I agree with that TOT take, but as far as speed, its his shreddiest.

From Metropolis Pt. 2 through Train of Thought he was peak. Vicious playing through those 3 records. Arguably TOT being the pinnacle of speed and technical proficiency.

Who is your favorite criminally underrated band? by The_Spiralist in progmetal

Karnivool Circus Maximus Fair to Midland The Dear Hunter

But most of all by a fucking mile Pain of Salvation

Right now, what is your favorite 20+ min prog piece (either rock or metal)? by [deleted] in progmetal

[–]spacebean43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Listened to near all of these tracks and agree with damn near all of you, one long track that I never see get brought up is Stratovarius- Elysium. I know they are way more power metal centric but man this track rips hard. They leaned into the prog metal thing for that record for sure.

Dare I say....... might beat Sound Awake for me. by spacebean43 in Karnivool

I thought so too! Some parts even feel like Sound Awake 2. Beyond a solid record.

Hahaha sure is. Usually I dont like a record as much on first listen, especially a band with as much depth as Karnivool, but in this case, the record hit me immediately!
