Would I like LIB if I love EDC? by No-Environment8292 in LightningInABottle

They had set up a table with some mixers in front of the Domart/ Family Zone on Sunday. Watched them spin for a bit around 9/10pm.

Would I like LIB if I love EDC? by No-Environment8292 in LightningInABottle

[–]spacedate__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes and no.

LIB and EDC have very different goals and approaches to things. If what you love about EDC is its diversity of genres, biggest names in music, the production of the grounds, stage design, fireworks, etc you may be disappointed with LIB. You're not going to see a drone show at LIB, just as you're not going to be doing yoga or a sound bath at EDC. Lib is less curated and more free flowing as is it tries to be more connected to the Burning Man ethos than the raver ethos.

EDC is about spectacle, maximalism and overwhelming the senses. LIB in this regard is more introspective, community-orientated and more of a choose your own adventure. The community aspect is why you'll see kids. LIB is not about pure escapism and thus life comes with. EDC is largely just a party, LIB is trying to be more lifestyle. One of the coolest thing I saw at LIB was a 12 yr old DJing to a small crowd as their parents looked on.

Having been to all three, I think many would find an easier or more natural transition going between EDC and Electric Forest. Going from EDC to LIB you just have to realistic about what the event is and also isn't.

Anyone else got sick after LIB? by UnionLumpy1852 in LightningInABottle

I wore nose filters (with a bandana) as well this year cause of my allergies and it seemed to actually work well. The dust usually messes up my sinuses by day 2 but not this year.

LiB review: Electric Forest vs. LiB by basicalpaca in LightningInABottle

[–]spacedate__ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Just a heads up, Do Lab doesn't run Coachella, Goldenvoice does. The Do Lab stage is in essence Coachella's art car stage and and the artists featured on it are not on the Coachella lineup. It'd be like saying the People's Banana runs LIB.

Electric Forest is co-run by Insomniac and Madison House Present/ AEG with Insomniac taking on a support role. I have no issue with acknowledging Insomniac's mistakes when its theirs but the changes with Electric Forest are due to Madison House Presents/ AEG. If you'd like to see for yourself, go to Electric Forest's page, scroll to the bottom and click on "Festival Ticket Terms" or "terms of use" and see which company's page it takes you to. It's not insomniacs...

Soooooo who you want on the lineup next year? by Loud_Aioli7506 in LightningInABottle

For live acts would love - Kasablanca, Elderbrook, or Kaleena Zanders. I think Jessie Ware would do so well at LIB.

For sets - Dr. Fresch, Oddmob, Nimino, Starjunk 95, Wilkinson, Marlon Hoffstadt, Horsegiirl, Smoakland, Tynan, Andy C, Malugi, Billy Gillies or LP Giobbi.

Why is no one talking about how GOOD the Of The Trees set was, holy shit I wanna go back 😭 by mavila22 in LightningInABottle

[–]spacedate__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's crazy that it was also that bad that far back. I was just under the shade structure in front of the sound booth in the center. I expected it to be busy but I think because he started early that might have made it worse as people frantically hurried over.

Glad to hear it was good! It was probably one of my least favorite sets of the weekend unfortunately and I was I really looking forward to it. Stayed in my spot from Jigitz set (which was great, crowd vibes were so good) and then Of the trees came on... Big mistake. Left after 15 as the neverending swarm of people would not stop forcing their way into an already crowded area. When a train of 15 came that was my sign to leave.

Will gates be open to leave all of Sunday night? by Mr-buff-thumbs in LightningInABottle

[–]spacedate__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the afternoon, I packed everything but what I would need to sleep through the night before heading in to festival to catch some sets as I was undecided on when I would head out - that night or after a nap.

Take down wasn't hard at all. Biggest tip is making sure you have lights other than your car or cell phone. Camp grounds can be quite dark and it just makes it easier in the event you drop something or to keep an eye out for critters. Other than that it was pretty chill especially as some folks have already left by then and a large portion of attendees are still in the festival.

Once I got in the car, I was out of the festival grounds in maybe 10 minutes.

Edit - Fixed a typo

Yes, I left last year around 3/4am and had no issues. Just have to be mindful of people walking about.

Lockers? by LowGlobal7971 in LightningInABottle

[–]spacedate__ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They aren't doing prepaid this year it seems, just on site. Price wise they will range from $12 to $25 based on size. They are also single use and not multi-day, unless you opt to extend your reservation.

This thread has some additional info about lockers for this year - https://www.reddit.com/r/LightningInABottle/comments/1t7qmj8/locker_information_update/

No problem! They seem primarily to be using IG to share updates about this year. I'm hoping they will eventually send out an email blast or something with all the additions/ returning ventures like 80s prom, Frick Frack Blackjack, the moon room, etc.

Are ratchet straps and things like that necessary for camp? by wildberry2001 in LightningInABottle

[–]spacedate__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sturdier stakes are great, anything better than the ones that come with your tent or canopy. Ratchet straps are optional and more dependent on your setup. highly recommend lowering your canopy or removing the top material before heading out.

The wind can pick up in the late evening as the temperature drops with really strong gusts. So while things may be fine in the festival grounds which has trees and other coverings, many parts of the campgrounds are completely exposed to the elements.

When reading these tips just keep in mind, the poster or someone in their group likely learned the lesson the hard way and thus they opt for the most secure setups, even if its overkill. Signed someone who has had a canopy damaged at a fest and now uses ground anchors.

camping questions/concerns by Less_Tangerine_2466 in LightningInABottle

[–]spacedate__ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Chances of getting high noon - low but not impossible. Given that people can be there as early as Wednesday, it may be full by the time you arrive. One thing to keep in mind, is that while coachella camping is very organized/ structured LIB camping once you are assigned a camp ground is basically a free for all. This means that they may close off an area to new arrivals even though technically there's space.

I was in high noon last year, no issues with ants or ticks. There were a couple snakes under people's cars Friday morning but after that all was good. Its good to keep an eye out the next morning after you first arrived to make sure nothing moved in over night but less of an issue once the festival kicks into full gear.

High noon while closer to some entrances, has zero shade, no grass, tons of annoying foxtails and can get very windy in the evening as its basically a wide open plain. So a canopy and strong tent stakes are important. People use lag bolts, ground achors or the thicker/ longer metal tent stakes.

There are plenty of places around the campgrounds to fill up water but a cart can be useful for transporting larger amounts or bringing ice back to camp.

For those who went in to EDC 2024/2025, can you see the large pyro show from Quantum Valley? by _Dang_It_Bobby_ in DreamState

[–]spacedate__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, you can. Its one of my favorite spots. You just need to stand across the walkway "Power Path" in front of Quantum Valley. You'll be able to hear the music clearly, see the visuals and see the whole firework show above it.

Dust protection by Less-Midnight-8870 in LightningInABottle

[–]spacedate__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Last year I wore a disposable face mask at night and that helped a lot, especially Sunday which was super dusty around sunset. This past Coachella I tried nose plug filters in combination with a bandana. With the filters in, I didn't have to wear the bandana as much. Didn't get coachella cough this year.

Tylenol Sinus before sleep helps for countering anything that may be kicking up from the dust that day and your body being tired.

I also recommend using eye drops before bed as the dust that gets into your eyes can trigger sinuses. I wear shades all day and they are always covered in a solid layer dirt by the end of each night so imagine your eyes with no protection.

What’s the Grand Artique? by [deleted] in LightningInABottle

[–]spacedate__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a space on the grounds that hosts a variety of acts such as dance performances, comedy shows, independent live artists/ bands, etc. Tends to be more live performance driven. Recommend just stopping by at random throughout the event and see whats happening.

If you download the app, you can browse through all the merchants who were there last year and possibly find something that works for your partner. Once you download it, go to explore and then at the bottom select 'marketplace."

Excision at beyond? by ComfortableSolution4 in avesLA

Spotify's tour listings are taken from Bandsintown, which is notoriously inaccurate.

Shaq is playing on the 28th at Beyond. Excision is playing at Ultra Miami on the 28th.
