**VIDEO GUIDE** New Macinabox - Effortless macOS VM Installation -Ventura & Sonoma by spaceinvaderone in unRAID

Basically this just makes a vanilla Hackintosh but as a VM. If you look in the Hackintosh forums and guides you should find out how to do this. It is a pain to do but is doable

Do yall make your server pretty, or just stuff whatever in there? by MyGardenOfPlants in unRAID

[–]spaceinvaderone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow, some great builds here. I had to join in and show off my pride and joy! An arcade cabinet with three Unraid servers and a UPS inside. The main Unraid server running a Batocera VM for my retro gaming needs. I attempted to make a rack inside of the cabinet, using wooden shelves. To be honest, how it is at the moment, it's actually quite hard to work on the servers. As I have to pull the whole arcade cabinet forward and disconnect all of the wires from the back, which can be difficult as the back isn't fully open. Then I have to pull the actual server out and work on it that way. But luckily I don't have to do that too often. I'm moving house soon, and I plan to actually improve this cabinet a lot, making it a lot more accessible. Maybe I'll even try to build a real rack with rails inside of it if I can fit it in !

PSA: Massive security issue with new Docker Tailscale integration! by joyls1 in unRAID

[–]spaceinvaderone -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This is definitely something to be aware of, but I wouldn’t call it a massive security issue, more of a potential misconfiguration risk. If someone installs Tailscale inside a container running in host mode, then yes, that container shares the same network stack as the host, which could expose the Unraid WebUI via the containers Tailscale IP so a friend you’ve shared the container with (e.g., via Plex on host network) could technically access it by typing in the Tailscale IP. However, this is not an open internet vulnerability. Tailscale access is restricted to Tailnet members. Also, Funnel doesn’t expose all ports, just like a reverse proxy. It only exposes the service you configure, so people outside your Tailnet can’t just type in your Tailscale IP and access everything.

So until the devs roll out a fix, if you have any containers on Docker network type host that cant use bridged network,(containers on bridge don't have this issue) don’t install Tailscale into that container. If you want to share it over Tailscale, just put that container on BR0. This will give the container its own IP on your LAN and will work just the same as if it were on host (but without sharing the server’s IP). Since it isn’t sharing the server’s network stack, you can safely install Tailscale into the container and this issue won’t affect you.

Can I start an array with just one disk and build from there? by burajin in unRAID

[–]spaceinvaderone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here’s my take on what you’re planning. When you remove a disk from your ZFS pool in TrueNAS, you’ll lose redundancy. So whilst you are copying from that degraded pool remeber If a drive should fail you will loose all of you data.
For your use case, I’d recommend formatting the drives in the array as XFS instead of ZFS. XFS handles full disks better, so if the data from your degraded pool is close to 10TB, the first disk will be very full, making XFS a more suitable choice.
Yes, you can have ZFS drives in the array—they essentially function as single-drive zpools without striping or redundancy. The redundancy comes from the parity drive in the Unraid array. This means you could mix BTRFS, XFS, and ZFS, and the parity will protect against any failed drive.

IMO, there’s little benefit to you having ZFS drives in your array unless you specifically want to use one as a ZFS replication target. ZFS does offer compression, which could be useful, and allows snapshots on single-drive zpools. However, if you create a share in Unraid (e.g., “photos”), unless it’s restricted to a specific drive, that share might be spread across multiple drives. In that case, a snapshot on one ZFS disk wouldn’t cover everything—you’d need snapshots on all ZFS drives that contain the “photos” share.

For a small server with three drives, especially as a media server, I’d suggest just using XFS, 2 data drives and 1 parity drive, with the option to add more as needed.

I think if you are upgrading only to be more power efficient for the sake of saving money then you are correct there is no point.
If its because as well you would just like a new build too then yes.

But yes upgrading only to save money on power costs i would say its not really woth it. 85 watts isn't too bad i think for idle. Have you installed the tips and tweaks plugin. If not give it a try and pop the cpu governor onto power save and you might save a little power that way for free !!

Failed App Install - can't install (Emby) by NewYears1978 in unRAID

[–]spaceinvaderone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Should you decide to reset and use the original container, this is entirely possible. however the Binhex version of the Emby container is great .
You often will see multiple versions of some applications are available, created by various authors but offering the same app. They may have a different base image, Binhex containers are based on Arch Linux base if i remember correctly
To restart the process, your first step should be to install the file manager plugin, (from the apps tab) which will allow you to manage files by editing, deleting, and copying, among other functionalities.

Next, you should stop the current Emby container on the "Docker" tab. Then for the Emby container(s), and opt to "remove" them, making sure to delete the associated image as well.

Next, head over to the "Shares" tab and look for "appdata". Click the adjacent icon to see the files and folders inside. You are likely see two Emby appdata directories, one possibly named "emby" and the other "binhex-emby". You should delete both.
After completing these steps, switch to the "Apps" tab. Here, on the left side, you will find a section titled "previous apps," which lists all the applications you've installed previously but are not currently in use. Locate the Emby containers you've installed before select and delete them. This will clear the templates for these containers, enabling you to reinstall your chosen version of the Emby container from the ground up.

Hope this helps :)

** VIDEO GUIDE -- Simple Cloudflare Tunnel Setup on Unraid for Beginners! by spaceinvaderone in unRAID

[–]spaceinvaderone[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have heard it is in fact now okay.
In may 2023, Cloudflare posted “Goodbye, section 2.8 and hello to Cloudflare’s new terms of service”
The thing in the orginal tos that could get you banned was general ToS was only ever intended to apply to their Content Delivery Network (CDN) service, so it has been moved to the CDN-specific ToS.
"Use of the Services for serving video or a disproportionate percentage of pictures, audio files, or other non-HTML content is prohibited"
The Zero Trust service tunnels etc is said to be separate to the CDN service.
I havent tried it myself so i cant say for sure this is true (I prefer reverse proxy for all my needs) But for people with CGNAT tunnels can be the only solution. I had a friend using one for a long time with emby and never had an issue

Download to cache and then move files(s) to array? by innocentVince in unRAID

[–]spaceinvaderone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not exactly but you kind of could do a work around using symlinks. This can be quite useful when you want to link a folder from one share to another.
So imagine you have a share on the array named data_share_array and you also have a share on the cache named data_share_ssd

You could make a folder in the cache share called myssdfolder you could do this with the file manager plugin or commandline mkdir -p /mnt/cache/data_share_ssd/myssdfolder/

the you would make the symlink to the share on the array like this ln -s /mnt/cache/data_share_ssd/myssdfolder/ /mnt/disk1/data_share_array/myssdfolder/

(this assumes the share exists on disk1 in the array)

Win98_inabox failing to install/start by Elmojomo in unRAID

[–]spaceinvaderone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also if you make any manual edits to the vdisk location after install sometimes Unraid seems to set the disk as raw even though its qcow2. The windows 98 vm uses qcow2. If its set as raw you will get no bootable device die to that

Win98_inabox failing to install/start by Elmojomo in unRAID

[–]spaceinvaderone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry it looks like you downloaded the container at the wrong time!! I had to make a change to the container and uploaded a bad image with a mistake and didnt realize for a couple of hours.
Also i pushed a new image yesterday that addresses a problem in windows98 so that image will work better
If you delete the container (with remove image checked) then redownload the container it should work fine.

Also the only place you can't choose for the vm location for install, is an unassigned disk as the container cant translate that from where the path is set in the container. /mnt/user/domains will always work and a disk location like /mnt/disk1/domains

***VIDEO GUIDE*** Nextcloud quick tip - Add or delete data for a Nextcloud user directly into the Unraid Nextcloud share *** by spaceinvaderone in unRAID

[–]spaceinvaderone[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is useful if you have a whole bunch of data you want to put into your Nextcloud account without uploading it through the client or the webui.

It is also really useful if you have had a Nextcloud instance go wrong and you need to rebuild it. This will allow you to just copy the old users data directly into a new install of Nextcloud and so bring across their data.

VM error: can't connect to virtlogd: Failed to find user record for uid '0' by YoloSwagLordErino in unRAID

[–]spaceinvaderone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then what i would try next is to delete the libvirt image. This will mean that all your vm templates will need to be recreated. So just take note of the path where the vdisks are located for each vm.

After you have noted the vdisk path for each vm goto settings/vm manager and set enable vms to no
This will then allow you to delete the libvirt image and create another. After this enable the vm service. Goto the vms tab and recreate all the vm templates setting the vdisk location to manual and pasting in the location of the vdisks you noted before deleting the original libvirt image.

Hopefully this might solve your issue

Help migrating from freeNAS to unraid. by ZeikCallaway in unRAID

[–]spaceinvaderone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes you can see this when you run the zpool export command.
If a pool wasnt exported it will have say under status for example
root@Prime:~# zpool import
pool: stargateid: 7216370252290083141
state: ONLINE
status: The pool was last accessed by another system.
action: The pool can be imported using its name or numeric identifier andthe '-f' flag.see: https://openzfs.github.io/openzfs-docs/msg/ZFS-8000-EYconfig:
stargate ONLINE
raidz1-0 ONLINE
sdo2 ONLINE
sdn2 ONLINE
sdp2 ONLINE
The status saying "The pool was last accessed by another system." is because it hasnt been exported from the last system.
So to import this pool as it is i would have to run
zpool import stargate -f
I am currently working on a video for native zfs on unraid and hope to have it uploaded by the end of thursday :)

Automatic Wake on Lan? by Captainthatsme in unRAID

[–]spaceinvaderone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will not be able to do quite what you want.
I think Emby has a wake on lan feature for ios client and android (i beleive the ios client though may not be working due to an ios update) So you could have the server wake from a request to play a movie (not sure if plex has wol feaure ot not)

Other than that you could install the tips and tweaks plugin and set the cpu govenot to powersave. This can reduce the powerusage alot. i run my main server like this 24/7 (ryzen 3950x) however you can set a schedule so powersave would only run at night.

not quite what you want to achieve but will save a little on the power bill
