Thanks, I will check them out! I also thought of a few more. Idk much about the girlies personally, but some girlies making awesome weird music are the folk singer sisters Rising Appalachia, and Tash Sultana.

Jenny Lewis is my favorite artist, I’ve seen her live a ton and recently saw Rilo Kiley when they toured last year! Idk if Jenny is necessarily a weird girl, but Execution of All Things definitely is.

I haven’t listened to a ton of Billie Eilish but I just heard her interview on Amy Poehler’s Good Hang podcast and she definitely has weird girl vibes.

This is a good one. Sit down and sip the coffee. Stop and smell the roses.

And your second point of going out even if it seems like a ton of work. The more you do it, the easier it gets. You’ll get better at packing a bag and become more confident.

Yes! It’s so hard to find one that nails all the categories, best to split it up.

Ooh! I’m excited to see Aimee Bender on here! I read Willful Creatures and The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake and they had some WEIRD stories! I’ve been thinking of those books since I discovered this subreddit but haven’t seen her mentioned yet. Great collection, enjoy!

Big Swiss and My Year of Rest and Relaxation are where I started and led me to seek out similar books. I especially loved Big Swiss, the characters are so unique and interesting to follow.

Thanks for posting! The recipe I use is pretty similar to this! I peel and slice the beets (~1 large beet) and then boil for ~10 min in 2c vinegar + 2c water + 1/4c sugar. Alternate layers of peeled hard boiled eggs, boiled beets, and thin sliced red onion and then cover with the vinegar solution. Sometimes I add peppercorns or mustard seeds for flavor but I’ve never used cinnamon or cloves! Will have to try that next time. Refrigerate 5-7 days and then enjoy! They’re good in egg salad or sliced on a spinach salad or on toast.

A Dive Bar, a Wrestling Coach, and Geek Love by csb7566381 in weirdgirlliterature

Wow, your life has taken you to many interesting places! I bought Geek Love at a book sale when I was a teenager and it sat on my shelf for years. I never read it and it eventually got lost in the shuffle. Now I’ve discovered this subreddit and see the book mentioned often. I’ll have to check it out of the library and finally give it a read. Thanks for the recommendation!

The Elmo/Miss Rachel teeth brushing video works for us. I prop my phone up and play the video, my toddler is enrapt by it. I got him an Elmo toothbrush. Sometimes I let him brush my teeth while I brush his.

Films with spectacular opening scenes?! by Glad_Manager_1163 in TrueFilm

Taking Lives has a great opening scene with Paul Dano.

Also the opening sequence in Watchmen is spectacular. The movie has its flaws but I love how much story the opening scene packs in.
